Small commercial painting project. He showed up on-time, spent a few minutes to understand the job and he got right to work. He carefully covered the wood floors with drop cloths and cleaned up when finished. Very professional.

We were extremely pleased with the window-washing we had done by Eric. Our windows were very dirty from the winter months and they are sparkling clean now! We have known Eric for about 5 years and his character, integrity and work ethic are impeccable. The recent work that he did for us confirmed that. We highly recommend Windows of Hope for any window cleaning you want done in your home. You can trust Eric to do the best job.

Aaron and his crew completed several jobs for me and I was thrilled with them all. In order to get our house on the market I needed a lot of painting completed. I was working and didn't have much time to monitor the projects. Aaron was prompt, professional, and did a great job on the painting. He was proactive and made all the right decisions. The house looks great--I wish I could post a picture. We will definitely be hiring MN Complete Property Solutions again!

Needed new soffit board to replace rotting boards above bay window, that also contained a wasp nest or two. He also cleaned rain gutters. Things he did that were great: 1) showed up for initial meeting and to give estimate ON TIME! 2) performed beautiful work over bay window with new soffit boards complete with paint job; and removed wasps nest, 3) reasonably priced for this single-income household, 4) felt totally comfortable with him and appreciated his gracious attitude towards me as a female client. Was not condescending (which is my experience with a few contractors in the past). Will definitely ask him to return to help with more "fixer-upper" jobs as well as some more complex renovations.

Gave us a window and showed up right within that time. After discussing our issue on the phone, they quoted us a price that was both fair and ended up staying true to their original quote. The plumber that showed up was extremely professional and did a great job. 10 out of 10, will use again!

I've used many contractors over the years for my commercial building. This is by far the best experience I've had in every way. Scott's project managing ability was outstanding and his post project follow up was second to none. His pricing is fair and workmanship outstanding. My project was to repair a rubber roof and I absolutely recommend him to anyone facing roof issues.

Barry demonstrated a high level of commitment to our attic ventilation issue where other industry professionals failed to do so. After 2 outrageous bids from roofing companies we contacted Barry and were shocked by his affordable rates. He maintained a professional and courteous demeanor while servicing our home. Barry was informative and casual in communication with me. A delight to work with!

It was a very good experience working with Jam Handyman on my small condominium’s masonry work. We had a brick archway above an exterior window removed and replaced. He was prompt in assessing the work, providing a bid, scheduling the project, and doing the work. Additionally, he completed the work with some time to spare so did a few extra tuck-pointing areas around the building outside walls – all while coming in almost 10% under the original quote. If needed, we would gladly work with Jam and his team again!

We had a small repair job in our restaurant. We also had a small window of time to complete the job, since we open at 7:00 am every morning. Julio worked on a Sunday so as to not disrupt our business flow. Very nice job. Fast and efficient. We will use Julio for other R & M needs at Milton's.

My experience with BARQ was great. While talking with Jim about possible windows to replace our broken one he was very informative about our choices, And what he would reccomend for us,And after talking to him me and my wife Cathy felt he steered us in the right direction with our choice of windows.During instalation of our window Jim and craig? were right on top of telling what was going on with what they were doing.only regret we wuold have is how long it took to get schedueled .But I do understand it was a custom window and may have taken longer to make.or it was insurance company dragging their feet.I would recomend barq anytime very proffesional salesmen and installers.

Four years ago, we replaced 5 windows in our house with another window company that lied to us, didn't give us what we expected, and didn't return calls after installation. The entire experience with New Windows for America was fantastic! They delivered what they said they were going to. We had a couple of minor hiccups with installation, but they did EVERYTHING to make things right. They made us feel like a valued customer. With "New Windows for America", we were able to get triple pane windows for the same price as double pane with their competitors. They also have the best warranty of all companies that we looked at. Hope to someday replace the first replacement windows with windows from New Windows for America.

As a way of introduction I am 3M Retiree. I have dealt over my 35 years with 3M, with many vendors, third parties, distributors, home improvement companies and builders. I had the opportunity and privilege to have met The Kellington, LLC in Hastings, MN. I was in the need to do a repair in one side of the house, outside back wall, stucco repair, painting and small finishing details. It looks like a small job, but was a very intricate work, with a lot of different issues that needed to be taking care. I reviewed the plan with Mr. Kellington and the work started. Everything was done and repair within the time needed. There were all the issues covered and finished as planned. If I need them in the future, I will not hesitate to call them back. This company is a very serious, ethical and professional one. No matter how big or small the job is, they will take care of it with great responsibility.

We replaced all of the windows in our house (11 windows) with Discount Windows and are VERY happy with them. It was so refreshing to deal with Andrew. In the past, I had gotten quotes from other window companies that were high pressure to sign the contract the same day at crazy prices. We checked reviews on HomeAdvisor, Google and Thumbtack, and decided to call them. Andrew, answered the phone when I called and gave a brief overview of the windows and explained the prices. I told him I would talk it over with my wife and get back to him. I called back a week later to set up an appointment for Andrew to come to our house. We liked the windows and everything about the company, not to mention the great prices. They have a quality window at a fair price. The installers were very professional. These guys stand behind their windows and give a lifetime warranty on labor. We highly recommend Discount Windows!

It is so hard to work with insurance to get the right amount money to fix damage done to your home. I am so glad we had Andrew and team on our side! Andrew came a couple times to evaluate the extent of the work then worked with our home owners insurance to get us 6 times the amount of money that was initially thrown at us by the insurance adjuster. He was very adept at maneuvering through the red tape, etc. Even then, with Homestead's persistence, it took us several months to put our home back together after a 3rd floor toilet overran all night!! Darn insurance companies! Despite all that hassle, Greg was a great project manager and the subs were all respectful, on time, and communicated well. I would definitely hire Homestead again.

The project was a siding replacement for house and garage. Half of the house is two floors. In total there was about 2400 square feet of floor. We used heavy duty vinyl siding. There were a lot of lights, doors, windows, corners, etc to work around. The crew did excellent work meeting these challanges. Additionally, we went with full metal cladding for all window & door trim as well as fascia, and veranda support structure. The metal cladding was formed on site and perfectly fit everything it was applied to. The crew was here at 7:00 am ready to start and worked till after 6:30 pm. Mr. Lessard was here most of the time when he wasn't retrieving additional materials that were needed as the work progressed. The result was a project that went smoothly from start to finish. It is now a year later and there have been no problems due to winter weather or spring storms. We are totally happy with the results and have no regrets for choosing to go with Tier1 Restoration.

Garrett and company installed a basement egress window for me. Garrett was very responsive and worked with my schedule to get the job done quickly. It looks good from the outside and seems solidly installed. I was surprised that the interior portion around the window and the sill was left unfinished, but we never discussed it beforehand and given the very reasonable price he did the work for... it makes sense that it might not be a 'full finish' job. I'd definitely use them again if I need any more work that falls within their expertise.

Damian put in a new door for us (and the trim around it both inside and out) expertly, quickly and neatly. His work was so excellent that we had him come and install a new window for us, too, and some quarter round on a hallway floor. Not everyone can manage in these old houses where things might not be square or as you expect them to be but Damian can. We recommend him highly and will ask him to come back for other jobs as we need the help.

Our window AC stopped working on a Friday of a steamy hot weekend. I submitted my job "after hours" on Friday and John replied quickly and came out Saturday morning to install our new unit. We are very pleased with the weekend service and with the actual work done. John was very friendly and easy to work with. I expect we'll be contracting him again.

We’ve recently had 6 windows replaced. The entire process from the initial appointment to the installation was incredibly smooth. The team was professional, on time, on budget and very helpful in deciding on the right windows for our project. We will definitely be coming back to Pella for our future window needs!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
