The quality of the work and the time took to take out our old carpet and replace in new carpet was great. What can improve is their timing on showing up earlier to get the measurements in. There was a small miscommunication, which could be avoid if everything wasn't rushed. Other than that, I believe TNA Carpet is fair on price and offers great service for replacing carpets.

I needed to have the carpet in my basement (main room and bedroom) replaced. I went to Menards and purchased the carpet. I then put out a request to Thumbtack for someone who could do the following: tear out old carpet, dispose of old carpet, pick up carpet at Menards, and install carpet. I asked for estimates. Sage Flooring came in with the best estimate. Pat and another man (sorry do not remember his name) came, looked, and conquered my carpeting issue. Not only did they do a great job in my basement but when Pat went to Menards to pick up the carpet (which had been cut into sections--which was wrong) he was an advocate for me and let them know they should not have done so and had them cut new carpet the way it should have been. I am really please with their workmanship and their professionalism. I would hire them again if I needed any flooring to be done. Thanks again Pat for all that you have done for me.

Birkel Enterprises was excellent. Trestan has installed carpet for me on two occasions. The first carpet he installed had a pattern with squares. At first I was hesitant to go with that pattern due to need for perfect installation. I've seen others with a patterned carpet which was wavy or not square with the walls and their new carpet became nothing but an eye sore. Trestan assured me that the pattern would not be an issue, he was right. The carpet looked better than I imagined and now I have a new trusted flooring contractor. The second carpet Birkel Enterprises installed went incredibly smooth. I called Trestan and after five minutes on the phone he knew exactly what I was looking for. The next day he stopped by with samples, after about ten minutes of talking we decided on the carpet. He was completely honest, not pushy and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. He even recommended I reuse my carpet pad because it was less that two years old, instead of charging me for something I didn't truly need. Later that week that carpet was installed and just like before I was 100% satisfied. Both times I compared Birkel Enterprises to Homedepot and Menards and both times I saved hundreds. I'd recommend Birkel Enterprises to anyone who wants to work with an honest, dedicated contractor.

Pete was very personable and finished the job quickly and we are very happy with our flooring. He pulled up all the carpeting, refilled area that needed cement filling, laid luxury vinyl tile. Excellent price too. We will definitely call him again when we do our next flooring project on the stairs.

Nel was great. We are so happy we found him for our one room carpet installation. We did our due diligence and invited 3 different carpet installers to see the space and provide quotes, but he seemed by far the most knowledgeable. He is also affordable and super easy to work with being very responsive and communicative from start to finish. He messaged me when the carpet was ordered, when it arrived and verified our installation time the night before. Very professional and everything I look for in a vendor we use in our home. Thank you for the great service and excellent carpet!

The responsiveness and overall professional experience was absolutely amazing. Working with Will and his installer was a great experience. Will made sure to communicate to me, and even reached out to let me know that the installer would be early! Once the installer came onsite, he was super friendly, and made me feel as if it was a good friend working on my room. He was fast, efficient, and you would never be able to tell that it was two pieces of carpet. The seam work he did was incredible. Any flooring work that I have, I will be sure to reach out to Will and his team again!

I have hired Rick for many "handyman" jobs over the years and I have always been impressed with his quality of work, timeliness and ability to tackle any job even in an old house full of unforeseen surprises. Rick has replumbed my house and fixed general plumbing issues, hung screen and steel doors, wired lights and ceiling fans, done sheet rocking, layed tile flooring, installed appliances, bathroom sinks and faucets. He has redone my steps to the upstairs by refinishing the wood, running a carpet runner and adding decorative railings. He really can do most everything you ask him to do. He is reasonably priced. I would definiteyl recommend him.

Five stars doesn't do them justice, they deserve at least a 10. All the work was completed in the time frame promised and was of the highest quality. I especially enjoyed owner John's enthusiasm and sense of humor. Lots of credit goes to his wife Luann who was precise in the scheduling and kept us well informed. A great company, providing great service and quality workmanship with affordable pricing. We couldn't be happier.

I hired Jim Wallis Construction to install carpeting on the stairs in my townhouse. Jim and his assistant did a great job. They were prompt, pleasant to work with, and they removed the leftover materials when finished. The price was very fair. I would definitely hire Jim again.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

    • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
    • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
    • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
    • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
    • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much does it cost to install carpet on stairs?

The number of stairs you want carpeted in your home will directly affect your carpet installation cost. Putting carpet on stairs generally increases the labor time and requires a higher degree of detail than laying carpet flat. Where you live in the country also plays a role in your carpet installation cost. Carpet installation companies in smaller towns with a lower cost of living and a lower cost to do business (insurance, company vehicles, employee labor, etc.) can usually offer their customers lower rates than companies in large cities where the cost of living and the cost to do business are higher. Carpet pros will often quote you a flat rate per stair once they do a site visit to provide an estimate. They’ll take into account the size of each stair you want carpeted (including both the step and the riser), and what type of stair it is. For example, the cost might range between $3 and $10 per stair for labor only. On the higher end of the spectrum, box stairs or staircase stairs with spindles that must be worked around might cost between $15 and $25 per stair.
