I requested an urgent carpet steam cleaning at 9pm the night prior to the day I needed it. Someone from National Dusters messaged me right away. The next day they called and we arranged service at 1pm. Their service person, Gumaro, arrived promptly and completed the job in a little over 1 hour. They kept the final price as quoted. I just asked them to clean 2 more items while Gumaro was there so they added $25 to the bill. He did a neat, accurate job. The apartment smelled and looked clean afterwards. Thank you!

I learned about Dynamic Duo Cleaning from them cleaning the carpets at my job. They were so personable and professional on top of doing an amazing job. So I hired them to steam clean my carpet at home, and they removed pet stains and a terrible urin smell from our puppy that I thought would never come out. They are now my go-to for all my carpet cleaning needs!

I have used many many carpet cleaners, I guess because they were all equally mediocre so I just went for the best deal. Now I have found my carpet and apholstery cleaning company! My carpet and love seat have never looked so clean! My while house looks and smells so bright and clean. And my tech Brian was awesome. He was knowledgeable, consultative and personable and didn't try to hard sell me on anything. I definitely recommend these guys!

I was looking at carpet cleaners at like 9:30 Saturday night. Lakes Carpet was on line and I was set with cleaning on the next day! They showed up on time and there were no surprise charges. I really needed to get the carpets cleaned quickly but I never expected it to be the next day. Thanks Lakes Carpet!

Koni and his wife did an excellent job cleaning a house that desperately needed a deep clean. They cleaned for 13 hours straight and only charged me a very reasonable $549 for almost 2900sf of cleaning. When I showed up at 7:00 (they were there at 9:00), I was worried when there were still walls to clean and a whole bathroom left (the worst part of the cleaning job) but Koni and his wife put it in overdrive and left just after 9:00 PM with a fresh smelling house. Of course the wear and tear of 10 years of neglect revealed damage after the cleaning, but I was expecting that. Finally, Koni agreed to take a pick up bed of trash to the dump for me for a reasonable $69 but to my pleasant delight, he showed up 2 days later to take another full bed of trash to the dump! I will definitely be using Koni's services in the future. PS* Koni's initial estimate was $350 but he came to look at the job and I made it clear that the house was very poor condition and I wanted him to account for the extra time to deep clean. He was very cognoscente of this fact and took an additional 15 minutes to get a better estimate to come to his $549 price. If you need a DEEP CLEAN, make sure you discuss the project in person!

Barry installed a closet system for me, and helped fix some work done by another handyman. Additionally, he fixed my son's bunk bed, which no one had been able to do. He made sure he knew what my expectations were, and he followed through. The quality of his work was excellent. Unlike anyone I've worked with since I moved here earlier this year, he cleaned up the work area, which I greatly appreciated! I have more projects on my home, and when I get to them, I will call Barry.

As a pet owner, they did a phenomenal job cleaning my carpets and making them look and smell like new. They also patched a piece of carpet and blended it so well, you can't even tell. They did an awesome job!

Brandon is one of the nicest person I’ve had do work for me. He was professional. Courteous. The value for the job was outstanding. After he was done cleaning the carpets he had me walk through to highlight any areas that may need another pass. He is a stickler for a professional job. I’d hire him again.

For approximately nine months, EMD has been cleaning part of our main office and our shelter for people experiencing homelessness. At our main office, they vacuum and clean our basement, which includes a kitchen, large meeting/event room, and three single stall bathrooms, and two three-story stairwells. We have a cleaner on our staff who cleans the rest of our three story office space. At our shelter, they clean three single-shower rooms, a multi-stall bathroom, two large sleeping spaces, a living/eating room/den, staff offices, small doctor's room, and hallway. EMD responds quickly to any issue and concern. Their team is flexible to our schedule - we occasionally host meetings during their regular cleaning time and they adjust their schedule. About once a month, EMD asks if there's anything else they can do. The one issue we've had since hiring EMD (a strong cleaning supply smell during cleaning, which was affecting a few members of our large staff) was resolved same-day.

Very good! I had Zerorez at our previous house and these guys are 10,000x better. The way they clean the vents are much more thorough. Call these guys. Or just send them a FB message to set up an appointment. They called 15 minutes out, showed up on time and were done in the time they said they would be (with 20 minutes to spare). Also kind to my kids who were running around everywhere.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How much does it cost to clean a carpet?

Carpet cleaning costs vary depending on the type of cleaning, such as steam cleaning, and whether there are any stains that require special treatment. The main cost factors are the square footage of the carpet and the material it’s made from. The national average carpet cleaning price ranges from $100 to $130 for a typical suburban home, but steam cleaning prices start at an average of $120. In general, professional carpet cleaning ranges from an average of 20 cents to 50 cents per square foot, depending on where you live. Many companies have a minimum fee or room requirement — such as two rooms for an average of $40 each — and will charge more to clean carpeted stairs or a second floor. Finally, the carpet fiber type, density and pile will also affect the cost of cleaning; man-made fibers are stain-resistant and easier to clean, while wool carpeting is sensitive to water and requires more care.
