My 6 1/2 year old daughter recently began guitar lessons with Nic. He comes to our home, which is great because she is in a familiar environment without the distractions of new surroundings detracting from her lesson. She's really enjoying the lessons and he works very well with her. He keeps her attention and finds ways to motivate her to learn and have fun.

I'm not from the area, but while I was in town, I was able to take a few guitar lessons with Alex. He asked about my goals and tried to customize my lessons. He's a good teacher. The location is great too. I like that Alex teaches out of a space, in a church. Also, he provided excellent customer service and refunded my paid for sessions, after I became sick with Shingles and had to cut my lesson taking time short. He's patient and has a good attitude. I imagine he is a great teacher for kids too. If I had any kids interested in guitar, and was from the area, I'd sign them up for guitar lessons with Alex.

I have really enjoyed taking lessons from Bruce! I am still new to it (began lessons ~4 months ago) and feel that I have learned so much! I tried taking lessons about 3 years ago from another instructor, but found myself frustrated and overwhelmed. I ended up quitting after about a month. I thought that perhaps I was too old to learn an instrument (it was my 40th b-day present to myself). However, Bruce has a teaching style that is organized and logical. He listened to my motivations and goals for wanting to learn to play the guitar and guides me each week with enough to challenge, but not so much that I feel defeated. He has responded to phone calls and emails within the same day and I appreciate his flexibility with lesson times and locations as well! I fully intend for my daughter to take lessons from Bruce as soon as she is old enough. I fully recommend giving Bruce a call if considering guitar lessons!!

I am in my late fifties and bought my first guitar in May of '08, never having played guitar. Self-taught, in ten months I learned fifteen chords, all below the fifth fret, and none of them barred. My dream was to learn rock guitar, something I had always wanted to do. Because of my age, I knew I was time-limited, and wanted to focus only on the songs I knew from my early years. By happen-stance I found Mr. O'Malley, and this week will have completed one full year of study with him. My lessons are one hour sessions weekly. It has been nothing short of an inspiring experience, and if I would compare it to anything, it would be like having someone teach the illiterate to read or the deaf to hear. I can now play barred chords without difficulty, up and down the neck. I have learned strum patterns, and how to read notes for these patterns. We do power chords as well. I can now read tab without difficulty. Bends, slides, hammer-ons, pull-offs, chord progressions, E and A Major pentatonics, and more, are part of every lesson. I am now learning how to solo. He has taught me how to set up my guitar, set up pedals, amplifiers, and which effects to use for which songs. My playlist includes AC/DC (many), Led Zep, Pink Floyd, RHCP, Nickelback, Boston, Clapton, Eagles, Black Sabbath, and Alice in Chains, just to name a few. Currently I am learning some killer blues licks. Six months ago I started bass, and have had 8 or so lessons on this. The bass has helped my guitar playing and vice-versa. I would rate my abilities as very, very average - but I can still cut through a lot of material. None of this would have been possible without Mr. O'Malley. My first lesson he asked ME what I would like to do with guitar. He is extremely patient, encouraging, and an all-around wonderful teacher, who inspires. He is a first-class guitarist. I look forward to my sessions with him. The hour goes way too fast. My goal for this year is to improve my tab reading and picking (without looking), improve my soloing, and to do Stairway. I play a PRS singlecut '06, and a Fender P Bass '62 RI (1968). I use fender amps and an Aguilar head for the bass. Rock On!! Thanks Mike!! Jim

Mark helped our grandson with pre-algebra and was very nurturing and patient while teaching concepts. Nick really enjoyed his sessions with Mark and gained so much confidence. I believe the skills talked about carried thru in his other subjects as well. Mark is excellent!!

Colton came to our house to teach our 12 yo son and 14yo daughter to play guitar. Each lesson is tailored to the child and his/her capabilities. Colton is humble, able, and both of the kids enjoyed working with him. I like his style of giving a free lesson to see if he's a fit. And, he drove to our house. How can you lose?

Hello! As an adult beginner seeking to learn the guitar, I can tell you several things I've discovered through experience. Things I can state with complete confidence. 1) Learning to play guitar can become overwhelming rather quickly! With all the information available on line, through books and from friends who say they can show you, it's quite easy to waste a lot of time learning stuff that really isn't productive over the long haul. Sure, you'll learn quickly at first because you're starting from zero, but once you learn the fundamentals, now what? This is where the majority of guitarists languish for years rehashing the same old stuff and never really improving. You need competent guidance! 2) Speaking of competent guidance, I've had numerous teachers who were really good guitar players but after a couple of months watching them play, you begin to wonder why YOU aren't getting much better. They're good, you're not and you're not getting much better. You're wasting precious learning time. Playing and teaching are 2 separate issues. Being able to relay information is probably more important than the ability to play when looking for a teacher. Phil can not only play but excels at explaining music concepts so they are readily accessible to students seeking knowledge. He was the first instructor I was exposed to who had a prepared, written game plan. A step by step road map to mastering the instrument that he explains patiently and intelligently. He loves both playing and teaching the guitar and it is abundantly clear when you talk to him about the subject. I have yet to have a session with him where I didn't feel that I was better after our lesson than I was before it, and that is the main reason one seeks out an instructor. So they can get better! 3) Phil treats lessons like a professional. He's never been late or surprised by my visits. He is always prepared and that's one of the things I like best. He makes me feel like I'm his only student and that MY progress is what's most important. I'm not just a time slot to fill or a check to grab and cash. No ego or showing off his skills for large chunks of the lesson. My skills and my improvement is what matters most and my entire lesson, from start to finish, is devoted to that. 4) Music theory is a bit spooky, especially for the beginning student. The problem isn't the complexity of the subject but how it's explained and mapped out. Yes it can be complex but in order to truly understand the instrument, you must understand the underlying concepts of music theory. What I liked most about my initial interview with Phil was his interest in what I was looking to accomplish. I was questioned about my goals. What did I want to accomplish. Learn music theory? Learn to read notation? Learn to just sit on the couch and play the blues or rock or pop music? A combination of some of it or all of it? He had a path for any/all of it tailored to my wants and needs. I'm thrilled with the path I chose and my progress on that path but I'm reminded by Phil that the plan can change as I grow and learn which is as it should be. Flexibility in learning means more options which also means constant learning without stagnation or hitting a wall that equates to more wasted time. If you seek professional, intelligent and skillful instruction as it relates to the guitar, I urge you to seek out Phil and discuss your musical goals with him. He has helped me both understand music as well as the instrument. It's quite a thrill to honestly believe you are improving quickly at playing the guitar. I look forward to continuing to improve with Phil's guidance and honestly feel my goals are well within reach. Both my playing as well as my understanding of music is growing daily and I eagerly anticipate what the future holds for me and my guitar journey with Phil's assistance!

Maria's passion for music is very apparent every single week that we show up for lessons. I've been so fortunate to watch my daughter go from a little girl taking lessons to a young adult continually working on her passion. The lessons now are a true collaboration between teacher and student where ideas are exchanged and a deeper thought goes into conveying the artistic meaning of the song. Music has become my child's passion, largely due to Maria's guidance and compassion. I'm so grateful we found Maria to pass on this beautiful gift.

My son began taking trombone lessons from Andrew in 5th grade. This is his 5 year of lessons. My son looks forward to the lessons, and his ability continues to grow. Andrew developed a quick rapport with my son, and is able to work through difficult techniques and overall improve my son's performance with different exercises. Andrew is very knowlegable, enthusiastic and supportive. We plan on continuing to use Andrew as long as we have a trombone player!

Aaron Felty tutored me in Algebra when I was having trouble keeping up in class. He was extremely knowledgable, patient and personable. The light-hearted atmosphere of our sessions allowed for me to better understand the information without creating the distraction of stress. I don't believe I would've passed the class without his help.
