I hired Brian to build a custom cabinet for my bathroom. His pricing was competitive but I ultimately chose him because he was closest in proximity to me. I sent him all my specs and a drawing and when he came out to discuss the details and see the space before beginning, I had a great first impression of him. He got started immediately, sent me photos every step of the way and kept in close communication with me to confirm each step was what I envisioned. He works quickly and puts out a great product. I love this cabinet and every single element came to life just as I imagined it. This is the first thing I have ever had made for myself and I absolutely love it; my favorite part of my bathroom! We have other projects we will use Brian for and I have already recommended him to a few others. WHAT A FIND! Thank you Brian, you are awesome!!!

Great Work! Needed to modify cabinet 6" over the stove to accommidate new larger Microwave. Peter removed cabinet and even installed the new GE microwave I purchased earlier in the year. The Electrical Outlet needed to be also raised along with modifying the vent hood/duct. The price to complete was spot on and with this I had Peter even added base trim to the rest of kitchen. I will hire Peter again when I replace the counter top with Granite this summer. The bid appointment was on Monday and all the work was completed on Tuesday. Wow!!! Fast!!! Mitch L

I had a brand new kitchen to design and install. I contacted Kristiaan per recommendation from a friend. Kristiaan was very professional. He provided the design over a day or two. As I was not sure what cabinets to order, he provided input regarding a couple of options. He sent me the list of cabinets to order from Ikea for both options. Kristiaan was very creative in his design and managed to use every inch of space to create useful storage areas. As he was fully booked and I had a deadline to meet, he volunteered to work during the weekend and completed the installation in one weekend. So it only took 10 days to design and install a brand new kitchen. The kitchen looked fantastic. I have received many compliments regarding the design and installation. Kristiaan is very professional, always on time, and is very nice to work with. I am looking forward to working with him again in Spring on another kitchen.

Cas & crew made it possible for us to take a 1978 town house and bring it into the 21st century. Transform removed & replaced the existing kitchen cabinets, upgraded the electrical & plumbing, installed Silestone countertops, plus new appliances and flooring. In the living/dining areas they installed Kahrs wood flooring. In the dining area they installed a custom hutch which backs up to a new gas fireplace. The whole process took a bit longer than we had hoped but it was worth the wait considering the overall quality of the job.

My 1980's dark cabinet kitchen needed a new make over. Chris Rowe did it. He worked with a cabinet my husband made, a cabinet we got at a Thrift store and he added another cabinet. He took off all my old doors and sprayed the inside of the cabinets white. He then painted white the new doors and added crown molding and hardware. The kitchen looks brand new and even bigger. No one can believe its the same kitchen. I even have soft closing doors and drawers ! Chris is easy to work with and his crew is great……I love his work Thank you Chris Nancy Sibley

We wanted a TV/video cabinet with shelves and drawers to fit an odd space as an extension to existing built-in shelving in our living room. Brad's work fit the space perfectly, matching the style of the original built in as well as the stain shade. Drawers were aligned very well with quality roller glides, making access easy when loaded with DVDs. Some of these were angled to match and maximize the storage space. He built a strong swing arm to mount the 46" TV so that it rotates out to allow easy access to cables connecting to other components. Fit, finish, and creative solutions made a first-rate upgrade for our living room. Completed within time and budget estimate.

The creativity and quality of work far surpasses the competition. After meeting with several cabinet makers, Dmitry has the passion, the creative vision and years of international experience behind him. Also, he doesn't cut corners in quality like other cabinet makers. His cabinets are solid wood with the natural beauty of the wood showing through. The cabinet will be a beautiful piece of art in your home. I had an open space to work with and he create a beautiful piece. He listened to the needs for the space and offered some great suggestions for what would be best. It's a perfect fit for the space and very practical for a busy family. The quality and attention to details was excellent. He was very easy to work with and flexible along the way. I highly recommend him.

I needed new cabinets in my Kitchen. Tom came over and assessed by kitchen. Gave me options to think about. After wee we decided what we wanted, Tom immediately gave us a drawing outline, pricing and estimated completion time. Pricing was better than competive. When the cabinets were ready Tom installed the cabinets which took only a couple of days with professional quality workmanship and made sure it was completed on time. He also made sure we were satisfied and stood by his product. I couldn't have asked for a better remodeler and would highly recommend him.

A bathroom remodel that included gutting everything except the vanity. Jim and those he works with were in constant contact and kept on track as promised with timing of the project. Jim will help you coordinate all materials with the best merchants to ensure the best price. He has relationships with all of them which ensures best prices possible for countertops, cabinets, tile (including design) as well as labor. We had no idea how to approach a bathrom remodel and knew we didn't want to act as our own general contractor. Hiring Jim to oversee it, helped us get the remodel done quickly, with good quality materials at a lower price than we would probably have been able to realize on our own. The tile installer was incrediblly meticulous. It looks perfect throughout the room from the shower to the bathroom floor and other walls. They took extreme care to keep the area clean and always cleaned up at the end of the day. We won't hesitate to work with Jim and Cady Handyman in the future for other remodeling. We highly recommend Jim.

They helped us pick out cabinets for a Pantry. The quality of the cabinets were top notch, especially for the cost. I would recommend to anyone in need of quality cabinets at a fair price point. The cabinets were through a subsidiary of K2, known as Box Blu.

After getting numerous bids for many methods of redoing my kitchen cabinets, Mike came with a much more reasonable bid to reface my cabinets. I immediately hired him and was not sorry. His bid estimated a 3 day job, but it was completed in 2. The work was done beautifully and I am extremely happy with the results. I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
