"I received a 90 minute massage from Alen. He was very professional. I told him where I thought it hurt and he found where my pain was originating from and helped me tremendously. He is very knowledgeable and informed me of everything he was doing. He also suggested stretching exercises for me to do. I highly recommend Alen to anyone who needs relief from pain or even just a relaxing massage. "

"Where do I start?? My overall experience with Trisha was extremely unique and truly came from a servant's heart! Her massage therapy sessions were so good, she knew exactly where to go, was extremely thorough, getting into spots I didn't even know existed! She used a really great, balancing mixture of deep tissue and trigger point therapy, which was intense but beyond beneficial. I had restricted range of motion in my neck and my right shoulder and by the time we were done (I got a mixture of services) I felt like A NEW PERSON! I took advantage of her 1st time client packages and the main reason I contacted her was for her health coaching strategies. As a long time food addict and pushing myself into obesity, I knew I needed to change. She helped me step-by step to switch to a plant based-gluten free diet (I have Celiac's) showed me all the supplements and whatnot to take! I lost 30 lbs in 3 wks!! She has a wealth of knowledge and is so compassionate and non-judgmental, she made me really feel like I was loved and cared for! As our time together (60 days together) came to an end, I walk away knowing more about how too care for myself in the best positive way, know more about my path and direction in life than I ever thought possible....and even found a new partner in my life!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that she is a magician and that by hiring her all your problems will go away; you have to WORK YOUR BUTT OFF, be willing to be committed, and give 110%!! Be willing to hold yourself accountable and more than anything... CHANGE YOUR MINDSET. For anyone reading this...if you're ready to make a change and are sick and tired of being sick and tired... Trisha is the coach for you..she will work so hard for you as long as you do the same for yourself ;) I love you Trisha and thank you for everything (even though she'd just say thanks, but, Thank yourself!!) haha :) <3"

"I recently received an orthopedic massage from Lori. She was professional, knowledgeable and outstanding in her service. Her unique technique approaches soft tissue injury and rehabilitation in an inventive protocol. By incorporating integrated muscle techniques with stretches and excerises that promote proper muscle firing patterns, she has the ability to provide pain relief, increased flexibility and improve/restore range of motion. I would highly recommend her orthopedic massage technique to anyone looking for pain relief or to restore proper function and range of motion, limited or caused by soft tissue injuries."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
