Bart was very friendly. He did some work on a commercial property, he had never worked on a rug rack but very diligently read a manual and was able to properly repair it. He was nice, patient, and personable to all associates. He also was very self motivated to get the job completed efficiently.

Quick and easy job that was done correctly (install a flashing). The availability was great but the price was very high and communication was below average (one person answers phones, different person does estimates, different person coordinates tha labor and a different person does the work... It was clear they didn't communicate between each other because I had to reexplain the simple job and schedule to each one and continually call to find out scheduling). I would use them again but felt like I had to manage them, where other roofing crews I use on larger jobs tend to take better care of the communications.

Jason came out to look at our roof when several neighbors were going with a large "storm chaser" roofing company that was working our neighborhood. He was very honest and told me that our roof did not have significant damage and was not in need of replacement at this time. He was great and I know who I will be coming back to when we really are ready for a roof. Thanks Jason!

Shae was great to work with and knew exactly what had to be done with my roof repair. Very responsive and performed the work in very short order. I'm very glad I found and hired SPS, and would do so again. I will be referring SPS to friends and colleagues as well!

I hired Nick (Top Notch Roofing) and his team to reroof my house in September 2016. Overall I was satisfied with the job that was done. Nick is patient, creative, and committed to customer satisfaction. My project included working with a second company to insulate the roof at the same time that Nick's team was re-roofing my house. When the insulation company increased the scope of their work at the last minute, Nick was flexible to accommodate those changes. He also stepped up with a plan that would keep the project on time. There was minor damage to the inside of the house from the roofing work but Nick was accommodating in making those repairs. I received estimates from five roofing contractors and I found Top Notch Roofing to be price competitive. I recommend Top Notch Roofing. Nick takes pride in what he does. You will be well cared for.

We had Kellington Construction company replace our old hollow core doors in our family room level. They picked up the 8 doors at Menards for us. Color matched stain for our existing wood trim. The 8 new 6 panel solid oak doors were sanded, stained, & sealed to match our existing woodwork at Kellingtons workshop. They installed the doors in a very timely and professional manner. our new doors look beautiful and have updated this area of our home. Extremely happy with the craftsmanship! We are now inquiring on another quote on a roof repair for a bump out window seat. The project list continues!

A storm damaged my house roof and I needed temporary roof patch quickly before more rains came. I relieved to read Jim’s message say he could come out and patch my roof within a few hours. I check Eastern Roofing out several reviews online then the BBB, MN Business License and made sure he was insured. Everything was good, call the phone number it was Jim’s direct cell phone number. Jim came out and was able to patch my roof before it rained. There was no big sales pitch, but talking to him gave my confidence that he was a professional contactor. Jim worked with my insurance company, kept to his word and took the time to answer my questions. I was impressed with the quality of material that was used. The roofing crew did not just come and slap on a new roof, but took the time to install a great looking roof that I can be confident it will last for a long time.

My husband and I are extremely pleased with the work that Primo Restoration and Construction has provided for us. After meeting with a few other roofing contractors, I trusted and knew that Primo would be the right company for us. Juan Baltazar did an amazing job working with us and spent extra time meeting with our insurance adjuster, which was greatly appreciated. He made sure that we went into the job with no questions in our mind of the whole process and what was to be expected in the end. He took extra time to explain things, offered suggestions and opinions when they were asked and made sure that everything was done to our expectations. They finished the roof project ahead of schedule, the crew did excellent work, and everyone was very pleasant, considerate and professional. We are very happy with our new roof, it looks fantastic!

Hired to do insulation and some roof work. The insulation truthfully made zero difference in the comfort of my home, but I think that's more my house than their work. They were competitive in pricing, on time, knowledgeable, and followed up in a timely manner. Overall a pleasant experience and I would hire them again.

Thorough and honest bid. Mark pointed out a couple things about the previous shingles and roof design (two vent systems cancelling each other out) that other contractors didn't point out. The singles that were on our house had a class action lawsuit and Carroll's Exterior helped file the claim for us. Installers were great and the roof looks amazing!

I have to tell you that I am very pleased with the work on our house. Every question I have had about the work has been answered promptly and to our satisfaction. Although you, as Gold Star Contracting LLC., are our Contractor, your efforts to ensure that we are satisfied with the work and the price for the work are unequaled. Before retirement, I was an engineer for 38 years and managed more civil engineering contracts than I can remember. My experience with you, representing Gold Star Contracting LLC. is the one of the best I can remember. You have acted more as our owner's representative than our contractor. I think that is high praise for the way you have treated us.

I reached out initially for my roof because of several storms that had rolled through in the last 6 or so months. Very nervous homeowner but Spencer came the same day I reached out, looked at the roof and provided clear information on the items that should be addressed. He did NOT come for a quick buck but took time to provide me all the information that I needed and that made me comfortable. On the maint. items he actually came back the same day (today) and fixed for me. What other company would do that. I am very impressed. I am hoping to work with him and Turnkey again this year for other repairs and certainly when I replace my roof next spring. If you want a true professional gem of a company that provides honest information, Spencer is your guy and Turnkey is your company--look no further!

My wife and I noticed a leak in our ceiling in our upstairs bathroom and were worried about our roof after it was getting worse during rainfall. We called Lifetime Builders for a free consultation and quote, and to see if perhaps some of the summer storms had caused the damage. Sergey came to our house to check out the damage both exterior and interior, and we set an appointment for Mike and Sergey to return to meet with the insurance adjuster so they could help us work with our insurance company to ensure that the entire rough was covered. The adjuster found evidence of severe weather damage to the roof, and Lifetime Builders placed me on the schedule for installation for the very next week. The crew arrived early on the day they were scheduled. The men were very friendly, and they worked hard all day. The first day, they did most of the removal of the old roof and installed weatherproofing for the new one. They did a phenomenal job on clean-up after the demo day, and they came back first thing the next morning and installed the new roof all within the second day. The workers left my yard looking just as good or better than before once finished with final cleanup. We had a new roof within 2 weeks of calling Lifetime Builders, and Lifetime Builders helped us work with our insurance company to ensure that every expense except our deductible was covered and paid for. They even helped with organizing the repair of the drywall ceiling inside. We could not be happier with our new roof and new ceiling in the bathroom. I would recommend Lifetime Builders to anyone looking for exterior work for their home around the Twin Cities.

Our home sustained significant damage in an August 2013 hail storm. We needed to replace the entire roof, the windows on the north side of our home, and all the gutters and downspouts. (The house also required painting, but we already had a different contractor lined up for that part of the project.) There were many storm chasers over many months calling and stopping by, eager for our business. Lakewoods Remodeling was recommended to us by a neighbor who had used them at a different time. Scott Rise was exceptional throughout the entire project. He proved to be a tremendous partner and advocate, often going to battle with our insurance company to be certain our house was returned to its pre-storm condition. Neither myself nor my husband are knowledgeable about the construction industry, but we learned very early on that we could trust Scott; he was truly looking out for our best interests. The initial insurance adjuster on our claim made significant errors and miscalculations and Scott worked directly with a successor adjuster to get everything corrected and agreed upon before the repair work began. Another neighbor complained to me about the contractor they were working with for their home repairs. She said that they were unresponsive and hard to get a hold of during the project. That was not the case with Lakewoods. Scott was always responsive and has exceptional follow-up skills. I rarely waited even 8 hours to hear back from him and he often communicated with me on the weekends. He even texted me from a funeral on one occasion, simply to let me know what was going on and when I could expect to hear back from him. The quality of the work has been very good and the various crews that were on our project were professional and respectful of our home. I can't think of a single situation working with Lakewoods where I was dissatisfied with any aspect of their work. There aren't ratings high enough for Lakewoods. Scott Rise did everything we could have hoped for from a contractor and more. We definitely will use Lakewoods for any future projects--large or small--and I highly recommend this company at every opportunity!

When they were scheduled to re-roof my cabin, which was 3 1/2 hrs away from the Twin Cities, they showed up exactly on time! They rebuilt half of the rotten truss work, along with re-decking the entire cabin! They did an exceptional job and they were very professional! I would recommend them to anyone!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
