Nick was such an awesome find!! He responded to my request for a bid promptly, sent pricing with really thorough detail, arrived on time everyday, was friendly and courteous and trustworthy.... and cleaned up after himself 100%. Best of all... he was the most affordable of all the bids AND his work is amazing. He really knows his craft. We plan to use him again and would recommend him to anyone!

He, sanded and stained my entryway door, removed my bathroom ceiling fixture seeing how I couldn't get down so I could clean it then he replaced it. He moved my living room furniture, assisted with taping off woodwork then he assisted with the painting. When everything was done he clean up after himself. He agreed to come back on Monday to paint my kitchen and dining room.

Greg has a great temperament. He painted my deck as if it was a work of art. He even helped to repair some damaged rails. We'll be hiring him again. Oh, and his rate was reasonable. Thanks Greg.

Don White recently performed tiling, wallpaper removal and painting for me. Don did an excellent job. His "administative process was sound - he wrote out a proposal of services, his price was for the work to be done - not per hour - and committed to a completion timeline. I feel his pricing was very competitive. The kitchen tile backsplash was done within the timeframe he committed to. He was on time, respectful of my time and cleaned up thoroughly. The tile work was straight, good spacing, and very precise cutting around outlet openings. I love the final product. i then asked to remove 30 yr old wallpaper. He comitted to the project and completed the removal as well as painting the room as needed. Don is trustworthy and has high integrity. I'll be following up with him for future hoome project needs. I hired Barry to do several jobs around my house. He replaced the door sweep on my front door and fixed a flapper on a toilet for me and did some caulking in my bathroom. He also removed some laminate flooring in a room and will be painting several rooms for me. He is very professional and always responds in a timely manner I feel confident hiring Barry and would highly recommend him to anyone needing home improvement or repair tasks.

Carl and his team did a nice job painting the inside of my condo so I could put it on the market to sell. He was responsive to my questions, accurately estimated how long it would take to complete the work, and charged a reasonable price for his services.

Turnaround time was exceptional! I needed to find an interior painter ASAP for a bathroom that was halfway completed with painting that I was unable to get to. I interviewed about 7 painters prior to hiring John. I was most impressed with John's quote (price), his punctuality, being reliable and his work quality. He did a FABULOUS job on painting my living room, kitchen and family room. He is my #1 painter to go to, you won't be disappointed. He does excellent work.

Madeline arrived in plenty of time to get all the faces painted at my daughter's birthday party. She was super sweet to the little kids and very patient. She was so great, we've already booked her for another party in February. I would highly recommend her services.

We had a water pipe break in our house, A week before our daughters wedding. We had planned for months to have the reception at our home.. The water damaged our ceilings and walls. We had In Town Painters come over to look at our walls and ceiling issues. I explained to Greg of our situation and our plans he was very understanding he was confident that he could put our house back together and paint the rooms that were damaged. He explained the process, the time it would take and gave us an estimate, right on the spot. Not only did In Town Painters come through they started the very next day, his estimated did not change from the first quote he gave us that first day. After they had finished the sheet rock repair and painting you could not tell that there was any damage at all. The reason I really like this business was their truth, the fast pase work process, the price and how they made me feel comfortable and confident that our plans would still be able to go through. I’m thankful for a genuine business like In Town Painters.

We hired Mitch deGrood to paint our father's house in preparation for an estate sale. The work included the painting of a number of interior walls. Mitch's work was great. He did it all within our tight timetable and the work was of very high quality, including around some of the more challenging window and door areas. In addition, his price was very reasonable and Mitch was a pleasure to work with. All in all, a very professional job.

I am so happy with the work that was done. Mr. Elliott came over this morning to give me a quote. After looking at what needed to be done, he said that he could do the job today. He asked me to get more paints, which I did. Unbelievably, about eight hours later he had completed the project. I could not be happier with his work. I am so glad that I hired J. Elliott Baldwin. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
