Anya Achtenberg

Introduction: As a prizewinning fiction writer and poet, I teach extraordinary creative writing workshops in person and online, focusing on story in fiction and memoir; autobiography and autobiographical fiction; and creative writing for social change. I am a consultant for writers in fiction and creative nonfiction, as well as in poetry, writing for theater, and multigenre works. I work with writers on developing their books and their writing skills at all levels. My classes are challenging and supportive, and reframe the craft and concepts of creative writing and story in ways that help writers go way beyond what they dreamt about for their writing. Many writers who have worked with me go on to finish full length projects, publish, win prizes, and clear away many obstacles and blocks in their work. Countless writers have told me that no one has gotten them to the places in their work that I have, and many take numerous courses with me and also do one-to-one work with me. My passionate and creative approach works well toward helping writers go to a much deeper level in their work, eliciting much surprising writing, and finishing short and full-length works.
