Our family has taken music lessons Mike Salow for over four years now. My one son plays guitar and drums an the other son plays bass. Mike is an excellent teacher in all of these instruments. He is patient and upbeat with my boys, professional, courteous, prompt and very reliable. He has won numerous awards for his guitar playing and is very versatile. Mike can start with classic rock, drop back to jazz, change to classical, and end up in an insane death metal shred without missing a beat....in guitar, bass and drums. It's crazy. We tried a couple of other in-home music teachers and none of them came close technically or had the ability to relate to and teach kids/young people. My boys went to the McPhail Center for Music and even their instructor and program was far inferior. Mike is a patient teacher that finds what motivates his students. He has an honest and kind way of relating that has kept my kids tuned in and motivated. Mike is the whole package musically, a great teacher and a wonderful person to contract services with. My whole family feels lucky to have found him. This guy is the bomb! You just can't get any better.Apr 1, 2016
My kids have been taking guitar, bass, and drum lessons with Mike for several years. We live in Minneapolis part-time so the kids have lessons both in person, when we are in town, and online when we are out of town. Mike is excellent in both forums. My kids spend all week looking forward to their lessons with Mike. I never have to ask them to practice; the homework Mike assigns is apparently so much fun, they race to their instruments every day and walk around the house with their guitars. As a parent, my favorite thing about Mike is how thoughtful and flexible he is. My kids are very different from one another and do not conform to any standard music curriculum. In other words, they require quite a bit of extra work on a music teacher's behalf. This has never troubled Mike. He provides each of my kids with customized music lessons that work for each child! Including a variety of music theory that is way beyond anything I studied in my many years of piano and theory lessons. We feel incredibly lucky to have Mike in our kids' lives.Apr 2, 2016

I'm currently studying music at the university level and working Mike has been one of the most rewarding educational experiences of my life. He's an extremely accomplished technician committed to bringing the very best out of his students. Study with him.Mar 31, 2016
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I primarily offer in-home lessons. I drive to you! The first "assessment" lesson is free and lasts 15 - 30 minutes. I recommend that students under the age of 7 first start with piano. Guitar, drums, and bass are much more physically involved instruments and can be very difficult for the little ones. My lesson plans start at $175 per month.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? When working with a new customer I like to first meet and do an "assessment" lesson. This lesson is free and usually 15 - 30 minutes. This allows us to meet and greet for the first time as well as giving me an opportunity to see where the student is at and which direction to take them in future lessons. I also like to discuss what the expectations are for the student and/or the student's parent(s).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance with a music business minor from McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul. I graduated top of my class (Cum Laude). I also have two years of jazz study at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA.
