Interested musical styles
The first two lessons have been a lot of fun. Mike had me return a small questionnaire after the first lesson. On it were questions for students about the style of guitar that appeals to them, styles that don't, songs they would like to learn, aspects of the guitar they find frustrating, and questions about other aspects of music that may interest them (recording, bands). These questions helped me frame the kind of music I want to play and produced goals for music and techniques to learn. In lessons Mike is patient, full of good advice, and keeps the lesson on track. In short, Mike knows his stuff and I feel like we are off to a great start!Jan 18, 2012Verified
Guitar Lessons (for adults)
Mike is a terrific guitar instructor. He's organized, providing easy-to-follow lesson plans and he tailors the instruction to your interests and pace. Another bonus: he's a working musician and he recently hosted an open blues jam session where his students played with his band Crooked Dice. How cool is that? We (students) got a chance play with other musicians. Isn't that what music is all about?Mar 28, 2016Verified
I have a great time with Mike during my lessons. His knowledge of guitar and music history is awesome. I look forward to every lesson.Oct 17, 2016
I have been taking guitar lessons from Mike for ten years and I was at absolute zero when I began. He is a fantastic instructor, very knowledgeable about music and theory, and I've never needed another guitar instructor. I'm very happy with my playing ability and even after all this time, a marriage, kids, a house, and a bit less opportunity to practice than when I started, Mike's lessons are still interesting and I'm always learning. I would highly recommend guitar lessons from Mike regardless of your style, age, or current playing ability.Dec 27, 2016
Mike taught me electric guitar. He had me playing things I never thought I could play. He is patient, talented, funny, warm and kind. He never made me feel inferior or bad about my ability to play (or not play). He is the best in town and I had taken lessons at McNally-Smith, The Guitar Center, The West Bank School and McPhail. No matter your level, he is the guy to see. Do yourself a favor and book lessons as soon as possible.Oct 17, 2016
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? For guitar lessons I charge $50 per hour, $40 for 45 minutes & $30 per half hour. I also have a recording studio & record bands & solo artists those prices will vary depending on the project. I can help with production or perform on parts I also know some drummers that are for hire.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Being a working musician I am always learning new things and figuring out ways to teach it to students. I learn around 300 songs a year that I teach to students and I am constantly expanding my skills and technique on the instrument as well as keeping up with recording and live technology.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I'm a musician and I also have a background in sales training, putting the two together is easy and very rewarding. I've always wanted to be my own boss.
