I'm not even sure how to respond to something like this but here goes. Some of what Mike has stated is true but not the majority. Michaels toilet is a little off level, I told him I would fix it but when I did, he said not to worry about it and the word millimeter never left my mouth. I did not scratch his tub but I did offer to fix the scratch for him at no cost to him. I purchased a repair kit and put in the time, the color of the repair was a little off (very little) and he wasn't satisfied so he called the manufacturer and the distributor and had them replace it. Mike had me demo the interior of his bathroom wall so that soundproofing insulation could be installed, as he stated, the home is 108 yrs old and squaring and leveling is nearly impossible. The building has sagged and shifted. I could not square the tile as the room is a trapezoid, not a rectangle. I split the difference. Most people understand that nothing can be set in perfectly, the trim usually covers the small imperfections but mike didn't want any trim. Let me be correct in stating that the trim he wanted to use was very non-typical, it's a chrome colored strip that when installed stands about an inch high and has a thickness of approximately 1/16" which meant that the tile had to be cut almost perfectly to fit. There was no room for error anywhere in this project. Construction projects are a combination of several factors, when someone requests a bid, Numbers are generated based upon cost of materials and the time it takes to install them. I made some mistakes by not getting all of his details before submitting a contract. The type of tile is important, after the contract was signed, mike chose some very difficult tile to set. The sheets come in 12" x 12" squares, they have 200 individual tile on them that measure approximately 1" x 2". There are 20 rows of 10 tiles each. each tile is approximately 1/16" thick. Thicknesses of each tile vary slightly. Mikes expectation was that this tile was going to lie perfectly flat against the wall with no topography. Bottom line is that the tile looks very good, it took me 4 times as long to lay this tile as it would an average tile and there was no added cost to him. Every little detail was scrutinized every day work was completed, each slight imperfection was met with disapproval and demand for perfection which caused much rework. An example to the degree of imperfection mike demanded was the day that I attached his non-standard bathtub faucet. The tub drain, the faucet and the handle for the shower were off by approximately 1/4". This was visible to the naked eye if you were looking for imperfections but only if you were looking hard. Mike took a picture with his digital camera, uploaded it to his computer and drew a line from his drain to the shower faucet. He then emailed it to me with a very cross explanation of how my spacial senses were extremely off and that he seriously questioned my abilities to work in his home. My work was scrutinized and re-work demanded based upon the perfection of a computer program. Every day this type of thing happened and mike claimed he didn't want perfection, he just wanted things straight, even and square. No one can compare to the tolerances of a computer generated diagram, machines are used to get tolerances like that and the cost of that type of perfection is tremendous. Mike claims that I dented his refrigerator door, I couldn't prove I didn't so I had to replace the door. I would have had to take pictures of every detail in his home to be able to prove I didn't damage something when all the work was complete. The part that is true, I did slide his bathtub along his floor on top of a piece of cardboard for about 4". This did create some very minor scratches that couldn't be seen unless looked at closely with the sun shining in the right spot. I did offer to repair the damage but Mike refused. He failed to mention that he also had another contractor in doing some other work. He didn't mention that they scratched the flooring worse, gouging through the finish and into the surface of the wood. The minor scratches that I caused could have been repaired very quickly and easily. I would have done so had we not had this issue. Mikes demand for perfection drove the amount of time to completion to a point that was unacceptable for both parties. I am very good at what I do. That is the reason for the reviews that I have received. If you read through the other reviews, Derrick left me one that states he was concerned about the amount of time it took. He fails to mention that he purchased the materials and didn't have everything needed so he had to go purchase more which was a delay. He requested that the "doggie door" be installed after I had gotten there to begin work. The work was completed in a day, I think his expectations were that it would take less time but the work was completed in a timely manner.
