Had gutter cleaning work done, did a little research on some other bidders and Keegan and the team from Clean and Clear were the clear choice. The team did great work and we've already begun referring others!

We hired Aaron to repair water damaged wall and ceiling. He did a very good job with the project, also painted the room/ceiling/stairwell an that turned out well. He worked within our tight timeline. He was professional and easy to communicate with. When I asked him to fine tune some (minor) painting spots that weren't quite right, he was happy to come back and do so. He purchased an extra gallon of paint on his own time and dime. I have a few other projects in mind for him in the near future!! Thank you, Aaron!

I was impressed with Steve from the minute we first met and shook hands. He listened to what my wishes were, gave great ideas when asked and never made me feel like I was asking for the moon. His stellar professionalism is hard to find these days, especially at an affordable rate! He followed up with a quote when he promised and got started on the project almost right away. We didn't make it easy on him having to communicate with 2 different people but he managed us just fine! What REALLY made an impression on me was how smart he was with his billing and follow up. He would send pictures of what he accomplished every time (I was only on-site once a week) and send very detailed invoices with a "Pay" now button, which made it so quick and convenient! He sent pictures of any receipts for materials he purchased that day as well. You just never know what you're going to get these days when hiring someone, but I can tell you - I definitely trust Steve and am putting him in my speed dial :) Tasks performed: clean/prep/paint kitchen cabinets, install new hinges and hardware, order and install new countertop, repair and paint walls, install backsplash "sticky" tiles, install under-cabinet lighting, replace electrical outlets, replace toilet components, fix a crooked bedroom door so it shuts quietly, and made any adjustments to work as we requested. AND he came in at estimate! No, he's not too good to be true! He's real!

Mike was very personable. He washed the house and it looks great. I had actually wanted him to power wash the deck due to the hail damage, however because of the Deck over paint we used it was not going to improve much and he was honest about the results so we did not have him do it after all. I would definatly recommmend him.

We had 450 sq ft of wood floor needing a complete refinish. Greg took his time and delivered a great quality job. He used plastic covers to contain the dust. He also had other ideas to improve our home. Highly recommend.

Don was very responsive. Up straight about everything. No gimmicks. Cleared everything on the deck. Did a good job with the strain/paint itself. Product he used seems to be of good brand and quality. Also, he is good with adjusting his schedule according to our availability and also weather.

Pablo just left my home after coming in and doing a super fantastic job. What a refreshingly great experience we had. My floating floors had come apart in several tricky places and I needed someone who was comfortable working with floors, baseboards, etc. He came in ahead of the scheduled time ready to go and did a really good work. My wife was so impressed that he wanted to know what else Pablo does and we will likely be using him to paint our whole main floor soon. Besides the quality of his work, he is very personable and his pricing is super competitive.

I have a lovely townhouse that is about 1,000 square feet. It needed to be painted for rental so I went to Thumbtack asking for a painter to give me an estimate to repaint it, all one color. I was lucky enough to get a reply from Eric Pearson at Windows of Hope Services LLC. I accepted his proposal and am so happy I did. We drew up a simple contract and I gave him a down payment. They began patching over the small nail holes on Monday March 17, 2014. Our contract said that I needed my house to be completely painted by Thursday evening, March 20, 2014. Imagine my surprise when Eric called me back during the afternoon of Tuesday March 18, 2014! I went to my house and was so happy when I saw the wonderful job they did. My house looks clean and fresh again. They were professional, prompt, easy to work with, and did a wonderful paint job. I have loved my house since I bought it 10 years ago. I love it more now that the paint is fresh. I would hire Eric again in a minute. Hire him. You will be pleased with the results.

Excellent workmanship and overall experience. Shawn is a true craftsman. He is not only a talented painter but a real perfectionist. He makes sure ever detail is prepped and addressed before beginning to paint. He actually smoothed trim gaps so woodwork flaws were barely noticeable, once painted. Shawn is punctual, trustworthy, and a real pleasure to work with. I will definitely hire Shawn again.

We had interviewed several painters before deciding to go with Protect Painters. One of the main reasons we chose them was Janet. She was willing to sit down with us to create a room with just the right colors to reflect the mood we wanted. And she didn't charge us $175 to tell us which colors to paint! Every time we were to meet with Del & Janet the meetings were exactly on time. The meetings were productive and items were resolved at each one. The day the actual painting took place Del came, introduced his men, and instructed them what to do. He later returned to make sure the work was excellent. The whole project, as big as it was, got done in a single day which really meant a lot as my life is so busy! They were able to repair all the damages on my walls and now it looks like I live in a totally brand new house! Excellent job!

Greg did a great job at half the price other companies quoted for our paint job. We didn't have to touch anything. He moved the furniture, covered everything and at the end of each day not only put them back to their original locations but made sure to clean everything. He was very willing to go the extra mile to make sure that you are satisfied with his work. For example, we asked him to do a third coat on the ceiling, he did it without raising his eyebrow. Very reliable and friendly person. We will be hiring his services again for our Deck and outside painting. I would highly recommend him for your painting needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
