About Walk My Pups

In the spring of 2008, Kia Hysjulien decided to start a dog walking and pet sitting service. With years of experience working with her own dogs, as well as those around the neighborhood, Kia gained a plethora of pet knowledge and love for all her four-legged friends. It only made sense to take that passion for animals into a full-blown business, and so within a matter of days, Walk My Pups was born.

When asked how Walk My Pups wants to be portrayed to their client basis, the answer was simple: to hold trust and integrity to the utmost concern. Without that, there is no base in which to build from. We must hold these values high on our list of priorities in order to sustain an everlasting bond not only with clients, but also with the animals we are taking care of.

Walk My Pups understands that a pet is more than just a three-letter word. It becomes a cherished part of your family. Our jobs are taken very seriously, and we pride ourselves in being responsible, flexible and convenient towards your wants and needs. Kia's own passion for animals and their care runs deep, and she hopes to instill that upon all her employees. We all deserve someone we can trust with our pets, and you'll find that with us.

Walk My Pups is taking this long-time dream into a full-blown reality, so we can do our favorite thing: play with dogs all day long!

Our services include:

1. Dog walking for 30 minutes
2. Pet sitting
3. Overnight stays
4. Doggy taxi
5. Puppy daycare
6. Food stuck and much more

We are bonded and insured through Pet Sitters Associates LLC, and we are certified and trained in pet first aid by the American Red Cross.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Make sure you have someone who is going to invest just as much time and loving care in your pets as you would. Because here at Walk my Pups we understand that a pet is more than just a three-letter word, they become a cherished part of your family. We abide by that saying every day with every animal we work with. Because each and every pet deserves a great life with someone who is going to love them and provide a "furr-ever" home!

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. They should make sure to check the company's business policies and procedures. If it is a service based business, such as pet care/dog walking, then knowing the cancellation policies can give you great peace of mind.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Walk my Pups stands out from generic dog walkers because we give personal treatment to each and every one of our clients (and their people too). We do not abide by the corporate 9-5 routine. We are available 365 days a year and the only time our office closes is when we close our eyes to sleep at the end of the night.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. The best part about this job is meeting all the new clients. There are so many different breeds of dog out there and we have a lot to learn from each and every one. It's so interesting to see that no dog is alike, each have their own personalities and quirks that make them so fun and unique. It's really enjoyable being able to work with such a wide variety, like rescues.

Walk my Pups works with a lot of puppy-mill survivors and rescues. These dogs have had amazingly hard lives and were graciously rescued by their owners. I think it's pretty awesome to spend time improving their lives, and showing them love so they can go back to being worry free pups again.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Q: What are your cancellation policies?

A: Any and all requests regardless of the nature must be phoned in through the main line. This ensures accurate scheduling, billing and payroll. We cannot, and will not guarantee service that is requested by calling your walker directly.

All cancellations on dog walking services must be made by 9 a.m. the day of. Failure to do so will result in you being charged for that day.

All cancellations on dog sitting services must be made within 24 hours of the first scheduled visit. Failure to do so will result in a cancellation charge of $30 dollars.

Frequent Cancellations

Even with giving the appropriate notice, please understand that frequent cancellations are unfair to other clients who may have not been able to book visits on a busy weekend/holiday. They are also unfair to the Walk my Pups staff. Frequent cancellations may result in termination of services.

Weather Cancellations

Every effort will be made to provide uninterrupted services. Notification of cancellation due to snow (or inclement weather) will be made on a daily basis. In excessive temperatures or weather conditions, Walk my Pups will use its discretion if it is too dangerous for rigorous exercise. Please understand the health concerns involved and that weather is erratic and therefore you will not be charged for dog walking or pet sitting services.

Cancellation of Service

Walk my Pups requires two weeks’ notice for dog walking service cancellations. In the event that notice is not given, you will be charged the equivalent of two full weeks of service.

Q: How does payment work?

A: For dog walking services we ask that clients pay on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly schedule. For those of you who go out of town, payment must be left before your departure. Walk my Pups takes only checks at this time.

Q: What do I do if I'm home sick from work?

A: Please understand that Walk my Pups does everything in its power to provide uninterrupted services. However, due to the numerous houses we travel to on our daily circuit, we ask that if you are sick that you please cancel. All cancellations will be free of charge if phoned in by 9 a.m. the day of.

Q: I have the day off, but I still would like you to walk and play with my pup, what should I do?

A: Please let us know if you are planning on being home for the day. Other persons in the house while a Walk my Pups employee is providing service is a liability and will not be tolerated. For the safety of Walk my Pups as well as your pets and home if we find any unknown vehicles or persons at your residence we will not be able to enter and law enforcement may be phoned. We want to create a safe environment for all of our workers as well as your furry friend!

Q: What do I do if my dog is sick?

A: After making sure you give your pup proper care, make sure to ask if your dog is contagious. Walk my Pups will not be able to provide care as we don't want our other clients falling ill. Otherwise we'd be happy to give your furry companion some mid-day comfort.

Q: Do you clean up accidents in the house?

A: Although we ask that your dog is crate/house trained, we understand accidents can happen. Walk my Pups always cleans up any messes within our sight on our visits, free of charge.

Q: Do you have training in pet first aid?

A: Proudly certified by the American Red Cross in Pet First Aid!

A: Of course! And unlike most pet services, we'll do it free of charge.

A: Yes, as long as any and all issues are disclosed in our initial free consultation. We just ask that you are honest in your pet's faults so we can work with and embrace them.

Q: How do I know you've been to my house for visits?

A: Walk my Pups has a neat little notebook we'll give you that lets us leave you fun notes about what we did with your pet! There is even a convenient note section in the front for anything extra you'd like us to know.

Q: Do you have a referral program?

A: Yes! Any successful client you refer our way earns you a $20 credit that is good on any service, at any time, with any other offer. More clients for us, means greater savings for you!

Q: I go out of town a lot, do you have any packages or loyalty reward cards?

A: Always be checking on the Walk my Pups website to see our featured coupons and deals we have going on. Like right now, if you write us a testimonial on Thumbtack you get a $5 credit! Signing up for our newsletter, "What's up Dog?" also gives you exclusive coupons.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. When I was a kid I remember running around our house begging and begging for my very own dog. Finally I broke down my parents into taking me to a pet store where I came home with my very own bichon frise poodle mix named Trygve (Trig for the Norwegian-impaired) and we were best of friends. From that day on I was head over heels for all animals and with my amazing negotiating skills I was able to get my own cat named Rosie soon after. Yes, he was a boy cat...but c'mon I was like five.

Since then I've worked with and owned a wide variety of amazing pets. From geckos, to ferrets to fire bellied salamanders! I've gained a wide berth of knowledge and figured I should share it with the world by starting a pet sitting and dog walking service that I would trust with my very own pets. I'm very grateful to be doing what I love, and that I'm able to live my dream!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I have always been known to my family and friends as an unofficial dog whisperer. Believe you me, I'm no Cesar Millan but I've got some tricks up my sleeves.

We have a couple of dogs we walk during our work week who are just great. They love to play fetch, they're loyal and they lather you with puppy kisses BUT we were told they can nightmares when on their leashes. As soon as they see those leashes come out they start to howl, whine, yip, bark and cry...they lay down any dog noise there is. So the owners apologized and said "good luck!" They had no idea what to do.

It took a couple of trips down the street but eventually the boys were quiet. They listened to my commands and realized that we could have a nice lengthy walk as long as we played the "quiet game." I can't explain how I do it, because you can't give away your "secret sauce" but the owners were really impressed and couldn't believe it! It was a proud moment for me and for my business to prove we really have that special touch.
