About Walk My Pups

How does your service stand out?

Walk my Pups stands out from generic dog walkers because we give personal treatment to each and every one of our clients (and their people too). We do not abide by the corporate 9-5 routine. We are available 365 days a year and the only time our office closes is when we close our eyes to sleep at the end of the night.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

The best part about this job is meeting all the new clients. There are so many different breeds of dog out there and we have a lot to learn from each and every one. It's so interesting to see that no dog is alike, each have their own personalities and quirks that make them so fun and unique. It's really enjoyable being able to work with such a wide variety, like rescues.

Walk my Pups works with a lot of puppy-mill survivors and rescues. These dogs have had amazingly hard lives and were graciously rescued by their owners. I think it's pretty awesome to spend time improving their lives, and showing them love so they can go back to being worry free pups again.

Q. How did you get started doing this type of work?

A. When I was a kid I remember running around our house begging and begging for my very own dog. Finally I broke down my parents into taking me to a pet store where I came home with my very own bichon frise poodle mix named Trygve (Trig for the Norwegian-impaired) and we were best of friends. From that day on I was head over heels for all animals and with my amazing negotiating skills I was able to get my own cat named Rosie soon after. Yes, he was a boy cat...but c'mon I was like five.

Since then I've worked with and owned a wide variety of amazing pets. From geckos, to ferrets to fire bellied salamanders! I've gained a wide berth of knowledge and figured I should share it with the world by starting a pet sitting and dog walking service that I would trust with my very own pets. I'm very grateful to be doing what I love, and that I'm able to live my dream!

Q. Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

A. I have always been known to my family and friends as an unofficial dog whisperer. Believe you me, I'm no Cesar Millan but I've got some tricks up my sleeves.

We have a couple of dogs we walk during our work week who are just great. They love to play fetch, they're loyal and they lather you with puppy kisses BUT we were told they can nightmares when on their leashes. As soon as they see those leashes come out they start to howl, whine, yip, bark and cry...they lay down any dog noise there is. So the owners apologized and said "good luck!" They had no idea what to do.

It took a couple of trips down the street but eventually the boys were quiet. They listened to my commands and realized that we could have a nice lengthy walk as long as we played the "quiet game." I can't explain how I do it, because you can't give away your "secret sauce" but the owners were really impressed and couldn't believe it! It was a proud moment for me and for my business to prove we really have that special touch.

Q. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

A. Make sure you have someone who is going to invest just as much time and loving care in your pets as you would. Because here at Walk my Pups we understand that a pet is more than just a three-letter word, they become a cherished part of your family. We abide by that saying every day with every animal we work with. Because each and every pet deserves a great life with someone who is going to love them and provide a "furr-ever" home!
