Introduction: Hello! My name is Kathy Petersen, President and Founder of Opus Music Acadaemy. I am a piano, ukulele, and flute teacher. My degree is in Music Therapy from Augsburg University in Minneapolis. I have been teaching since 2009. In December 2018, I opened Opus Music Academy because I am passionate about bringing people together through the power of music. I have a team of instructors that offer private and group lessons for ALL instruments, musical theater, and vocals. If you click on my profile, you can see all the types of lessons that are available. We also offer music services for Special Occasions (parties, weddings, etc). In the photos, you can also see photos of all the instructors on the Opus team! Our mission is to bring music to the people, in our ever increasingly busy schedules. We achieve this through partnerships with local organizations, scholarships, virtual and in-home lessons. We also bring music to the working adult by providing music lessons on site at co-working facilities. Opus Music Academy also has summer camps, group lessons, and a variety of music classes. We make it a priority that we build a positive, trusting relationship with every single student, including their families. We build this trust and relationship with everyone through consistent and timely communication, follow ups, and being a constant resource for families. We call all the Opus students together "the family of Opus Music Academy". Opus also provides monthly performance opportunities for both teacher and students. Please take a moment to look through our gallery of pictures, videos, find us on Facebook and Instagram... it'll give you an idea of what it's like to be a part of the Opus family of students!

Kathy is excellent! I have had no previous experience in music/instruments and she catered to my skill level. She gave plenty of work and practice to be done at home, which is great so that over the course of the week you have plenty to practice at home. She is very upbeat and encouraging of my progress and it keeps me psyched up even though piano is hard work!

Details: 26 - 44 years old • No, the student cannot read music • No formal training • Classical • No, the student does not have either • 45 minutes • At the pro’s location

Opus Music Academy's reply
Thanks Elvin! I look forward to our lessons. It's great to have a student who is prepared for lessons, and is so enjoyable to teach!

Opus Music Academy is the perfect music school for the busy parent or individual who wants to (or their child wants to) learn an instrument but just does not have the time or energy to drive to yet another activity. My son's piano teacher comes right to our home and works with our schedule to fit in the piano lessons we feel are so important to his development as a child.
Opus Music Academy's reply
Hi Theresa! Thank you! I am glad that you see the value in having music brought to you, so that your son can participate in all the activities he wants to make him a well rounded person.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

All lessons have varying prices depending on the instructor and length of lesson. Also, all Opus students and military (active or not) receive 10% discounts on all classes, camps, and group lessons.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

In the beginning, all communication is through me (Kathy Petersen). We determine what are the student's musical goals, budget, and availabiltiy. Then I play "matchmaker" and place them with one or two teachers that most fit their needs. I set up a free trial lesson with those teachers to make sure everyone likes each other, and then I proceed with registration and invoicing. After lessons have begun, most communication is between student and teacher...however families are always encouraged to check with me too if they have questions or concerns. I am always available to help out. I do check in with families from time to time for feedback and to see if there are any needs they have that I can help meet.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am happy to send over any instructor's resumes if students want to know more about their educational background in relation to music.
