Introduction: I love learning about the qualities of people's relationships, and then crafting a ceremony that expresses the unique qualities of their love and relationships. After doing more than forty weddings, I’ve found that many couples want some guidance through the process. I like to meet with couples in advance to talk with them about their relationship, how they met, and what their connection means to them. I also have many previous ceremonies that I can share and which often help open up ideas of what each couple’s ceremony should include. In addition to officiating weddings, I am a writer and actor, who runs a popular small theatre company in Minneapolis. As a result, I often work with nerdy, artistic, or queer-identified clients, and love to discover ways to bring peoples’ unique qualities into the weddings I do.

William M.

Wedding Officiant

Rev. Heimbuch officiating a wedding for my husband and I on a last minute basis, and we could not have been happier. He was extremely kind, respectful, was prepared with a few words to say, and handled the final paperwork aspect. His pricing was also fair. I highly recommend him!

We were so happy to have John officiate our wedding. He is a lovely speaker and he and his wife helped us stay calm and organized throughout our wedding weekend. We highly recommend John!

John officiated my wedding in '08. My wife is a practicing Christian and I am not, but John still made our wedding important, spiritual and memorable for both of us. Secular or not, John puts your feelings and beliefs first, and tailors his message and tradition to the couple. I've seen other officiates do poorly because they spoke their own message. John would much rather speak for you.

John was just starting when he officiated our wedding and he did a great job working with us on how we wanted to set things up. I have attended many weddings he has officiated in the last eight years and am always impressed with his subtle presence, beautiful words and the rapport he builds with the couple.

Wedding Officiant

John provided my partner (now Husband!) and me a framework from which he allowed us to build a ceremony that was uniquely ours. He then delivered the ceremony in a meaningful and warm professionalism that ... well, there wasn't a dry eye in the place! Thanks, John!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

There’s some flexibility in my numbers, depending on timeframe, distance, writing, and my hours needed.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Usually after a couple expresses interested in working with me, I meet with them to learn more about them -- I ask questions about the wedding and ceremony, their relationship and history, and their own lives. Then based on our conversation, we talk about what sort of elements they want to include in their ceremony. I send some previous examples of ceremonies I've done, and we talk about what they like and want in their wedding. Then I craft a ceremony that suits their needs and send it to them for feedback. I usually walk them through a rehearsal and make sure that all the paperwork is accurate and that everyone has everything they need to make the day go smoothly. After the ceremony is done, I file the paperwork on the next mail day, and check in with the couple afterward to make sure that all the filing was completed and accurate.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a trained theatre artist, and have extensive experience with performance, writing, and stage direction. These skills translate very well into creating unique ceremonies and making sure they go smoothly.
