Excellent SAT and ACT tutoring.
I would recommend Debbie as a tutor for multiple reasons. She helped me prepare for the ACT in a few short sessions. She had a solution to a every problem I faced; she was very strategic. I learned strategies I had never heard of. Debbie is also a very positive and enthusiastic tutor, which helped to decrease the stress of the test. She did more than she needed to. She was a very understanding and flexible tutor. For example, she looked over tests that I took and assessed what/how I could have done better, but even more, what I did not understand. Overall, Debbie is a very enjoyable, kind, and well prepared tutor to work with.
Daniel did an amazing job with my son's ACT. For my son's first practice ACT test, he got a 13. He was historically poor in test-taking and math. We signed up with Daniel for twenty 2-hour sessions over a semester. After all of the tutoring, my son scored a 20 on his ACT test! Incredible.
great act prep, definitely worth the time.
Excellent Test Prep Thomas did a great job of preparing me for the MCAs in both reading and math. The strategies he explained made a lot of sense, and taking the test just felt easier than it had before. I was much more confident after he helped me prepare.
Laura rocked it today with helping me through my fears with College Algebra. She remained patient, encouraging and stayed with me all the way. Very grateful Thumbtack helped me find her!
Viking set me up with Samantha who helped my daughter prepare for the ACT. It was hard to find at time to meet with her at first because of her busy schedule but she did a great job. Very smart.
After taking the ACT for the 1st time, I knew I needed a tutor to get me to the next level in my scores. I found Tyler through Thumbtack and worked with him for 2 months before my 2nd attempt. I am so thankful to have had him help me score 6 points higher. He was a great hire - personable, professional, patient.
Sarah did a great job preparing a meal for me. I needed a dinner for 6 people on a weekend trip and hired Sarah to prepare the meal in advance for me since I didn't have the time. I told Sarah what I wanted (lasagna and salad) and she took care of groceries, prep, and packaged everything up with very clear, simple baking instructions. We communicated quickly and clearly so I was sure of what I was getting. She even was thoughtful enough to prepare a single serving of a gluten-free pasta dinner for friend and included a generous bag of chocolates! Six hungry skiers were very pleased with the delicious and easy meal, I would definitely endorse Sarah's cooking skills.
My son has been tutoring with Amy since June 2013. His teachers has seen great improvement...he is no longer that stress when it comes to him doing his homework. I would recommend Amy to anyone, my son looks forward to meeting up with her for his sessions. She is very professional, and also flexible. So glad that I chose her to work with my son!!!
If you are looking for a Calculus or Physics tutor Alex without a doubt is the person to use. I had been spending two hours a night with my daughter and she was meeting with her teacher before and after school to no avail. She was flunking AP Calculus and their was only 4 weeks left in the class. I hired Alex in panic mode. She had two unit exams and a final left to bring her grade up. In four short weeks Alex brought her grade up from an E to a C and she got a B on the final. There is no way my daughter would have passed the class if it had not been for Alex. Alex instilled her with the confidence that she could learn the material and would be successful. That she would be able to learn the Calculus and Physics that she needs to pursue her goal of a career in Marine Biology. Alex has helped keep the dream alive in my daughter and I will forever be grateful for that. When I listened to Alex interact with my daughter during the sessions his love of teaching, genuine desire to help my daughter and ability to connect with her in a fun and productive way was way beyond any of the other tutors I have ever used. As far as responsiveness, Alex rose to the challenge and juggled his schedule. He worked around my daughters cross country meet schedule and other commitments while also making sure he was able to meet with her the night before each exam to help her with final prep for them. He met with her two to three times a week when it worked for her to make sure she passed the class. My daughter has dyslexia which creates unique challenges particularly in math. She tends to look at problems and get to solutions in different ways then most people would. Alex took the time to make sure he understood how my daughter was looking at problems and would adjust the way he approached the solution to match her problem solving style rather than trying to force her to solve the problem using the standard textbook solution guide. Alex made the sessions productive but also fun. I would hear them joke and make light of errors. My daughter also used Alex the following term for her Honors Physics class with the same results. Alex took the time to drive to my daughters school to meet with her physics teacher. He reviewed the curriculum and her tests to see what areas my daughter was struggling with which helped him fine tune his tutoring time with my daughter. You will be extremely pleased with Alex.
Craig was very impressive in his extensive knowledge in regards to helping me understand college level algebra. He repeatedly made extra efforts to help me and my understanding overall in math. I definitely plan on hiring him again in the future. ( I met with Craig for 3 secessions)
I have a diverse educational background. I have an Associate of Science in Math/Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Literature. I have been both a regular classroom substitute and a substitute paraprofessional. At these positions, I gained invaluable experience in many facets of K-12 education. I have taught everything from kindergarten to high school. I even taught preschool several times. Moreover, at the high school level, I taught subjects as diverse as advanced algebra and classic literature, and down the educational ladder, I taught English and math in middle school. In elementary school, I taught math, language arts and reading numerous times, and even science once. I taught the staples of public school -- physical education, music, and art. I worked in special education with students suffering from a wide spectrum of disabilities. Moreover, I believe this valuable experience I gained will transfer nicely to private tutoring.
I am a professional instructor with deep credentials in teaching & tutoring mathematics, science, and music as well as advanced writing skills and test preparation. Please restrict to the Minneapolis area or via internet/Skype. I have taught test preparation at Kaplan Test Prep for the GRE, GMAT, and SAT tests, as well as reading, math, and ACT prep at Sylvan Learning Center. I have a Master's degree in mathematics and a PhD in Chemical Engineering, and have taught at all levels between kindergarten and graduate school. Music instruction includes all levels of music including theory, harmony, and composition, as well as beginning to advanced guitar. Despite the advanced degrees and scientist training, I have a reputation of relating with children of all ages and making learning fun as well as rewarding. I believe strongly in hands-on instruction particularly for boys, and have a fully-equipped metalworking lab useful both as an outlet, and for instruction in CNC manufacturing if that is desired.

I am an experienced tutor, and have a lot of great references to show for it. The subjects I usually tutor are geometry, advanced algebra/precalculus, statistics, chemistry, and physics, as well as SAT and ACT prep. I'm a licensed Minnesota educator (#429992), and I work exclusively as an individual tutor. Do not get pulled in by the tutoring factories which utilize a canned course of study when your child really needs a specialized approach. I don't offer any kind of service where I do term papers or take-home tests for a student; I teach. I was also employed as a scientist for twenty years prior to my teaching career, so I have real-world experience with the sciences and math. I'm experienced at working with home-schooled students, gifted students, and students with various learning disabilities. I usually travel to your home or to a nearby library. I tutor in both ACT and SAT, most school subjects and languages too! I have a BS degree in neuroscience and Spanish, and I'm fluent in Spanish, English and Arabic.
