The Photographer Elaine did our wedding photos. After my Husband and I looked at all of the pictures (all 400 of them) I couldn't believe the moments that she had captured because she was quiet, stayed out of the way, I hardly noticed that she was there. She captured every moment with excellence! She was prompt and had a great attitude. Our pictures, both traditional and untraditional turned out beautiful.

I requested a makeup artist to come to my house to do my wedding makeup. Betsey was professional, knowledgable, and I couldn't have been happier with the job she did. Would definitely hire her again!

Yale of Dempag was our photographer and DJ for our wedding. He did a phenomenal job start to finish. He did the sound for the wedding, then at the rehearsal took pictures and got people involved with the photobooth. The dance was great as Yale got everyone involved in getting out and having a good time. I highly recommend this professional and will refer others to him as needs arise.

Pastor Chuck made our wedding very special. He let us customize the ceremony to add a Walt Whitman poem after the reading from Corinthians. He then talked about the common theme in the 2 readings and tied it together. Many of the guests commented on how great he was, how he had a sense of humor, and made it a celebration. My husband and I really enjoyed working with him and his wife Phyllis, I would definitely recommend them!

Our officiant was Mark Dietrich. It was a wonderful experience for us, from start to finish. We all met to discuss and plan the ceremony. Each of us followed up and made adjustments between that meeting and the actual wedding day. Mark was great!

Sara did an exceptional make-up job for my daughter's wedding. About a month in advance, she worked with the bride and maid of honor to do a trial run, as each had a different idea of what she wanted. Results were perfect! Sara was so attuned to individual tastes, but also made suggestions or things to try. On the wedding day she again showed up at the exact minute she was due!!! Sara had given me timelines and pricing ahead of time and she coordinated beautifully with the gal doing hair. Sara did make up for four of us on the wedding day. She was extremely professional and had a complete array of make up with her. Best of all, she was fun, enthusiastic, engaged with everyone and a delight to have around at a time that could be stressful. I wish I had invited her to the wedding! I have 3 more children who will likely marry and I called Sara after the wedding to tell her she was hired again for those. So many people complimented how beautiful we looked - they didn't know we had Sara to thank. I would recommend her wholeheartedly and without any hesitation. Sara is the BEST. JC Sanstead

Laura was amazing! I had a double wedding with my sister, but she did an amazing job capturing our special days in ways that we both liked. She and her husband are very personable and open to our suggestions whenever we had an idea! They were both troopers for sticking with us through a VERY long day, and I would definitely hire again for my next photo session, whatever that may be!

Patti was an absolute pleasure to work with. When we first started looking for an officiant we knew we wanted two things (a) someone who would be able to work with us remotely and (b) someone who was open to creating a ceremony that reflect my husband and I's differing beliefs. As we live in a rural area, finding an officiant was difficult let alone someone who was flexible, understanding, and sensitive to how we wanted the ceremony. However, we found Patti here on Thumbtack and she was willing to meet with us via video conferencing to help prepare my husband and I for the ceremony and our marriage. We absolutely love Patti and cannot thank her enough for everything she did for us. We wanted a "blended" ceremony where one of us is more spiritual, less religious and the other traditional Catholic. Patti listened to our wants and demands and implemented them flawlessly into our ceremony. We couldn't be happier. She also went above and beyond to help us prepare for our marriage. When we faced difficulty with the courthouse and filing paperwork, Patti called them up herself and spoke with them about what needed to be done. She worked with us through the Prepare and Enrich courses (which my husband and I found very helpful) in the months leading up to our wedding. We cannot say enough good things about Patti and we hope that you'll consider letting her be apart of your day!

Melissa not only made everyone look beautiful, she was very professional and easy to work with. She communicated every few months to follow up and keep in contact prior to the wedding date (we reserved about 7 months in advance). Anytime I emailed her I received a response within a day. On the day of the event she arrived early with everything ready to go. The only negative I could even say is she does not take credit cards - but that wasn't an issue for my daughter or wedding party because we let the girls know to bring cash and there was also a cash machine at our location so it didn't affect anything really. I have used Melissa three times now and would hire again. After the event, we received such a sweet Thank you note from Melissa. Very professional, polite and relaxed.

I loved my decision to use Haute Flower Boutique for our bouquets, centerpieces and other arrangements. Marsha and Bridget are absolutely fantastic to work with and are incredibly responsive to questions. My biggest challenge with wedding planning was actually the flowers as I had trouble with a full vision, and they were able to take the bits and pieces (and few Pinterest photos) I gave to them and turn it into a fantastic outcome. Our guests all had wonderful comments about how pretty the centerpieces were and I loved my bouquet. I also really appreciated that they operated within in our budget rather than quoting us a ridiculous amount for flowers. Overall, a very positive experience and my husband and I could not be more pleased!

We had an outdoor wedding in early October. Pastor Clarke was outstanding in managing our party. During the rehearsal, were pretty clueless about how the wedding party should enter the area or where to stand. Pastor Clarke took charge, was very patient and made the experience very enjoyable. The day of the wedding, the weather was terrible, very windy and cold. Pastor Clarke made appropriate changes to the service to keep it meaningful, but shorter so that I, the bride, did not freeze as we were unprepared for the cold. Overall, we had a wonderful wedding thanks in part to Pastor Clarke and his concern for our wishes, desires and keeping me alive. He was responsive to our concerns and questions, and we had many. He was always making sure I was happy and that the day was how I always thought it would be. I don't think you could find a better Pastor for your wedding day.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
