Jacob was great with email communication. He gave me his honest assessment of my project and didn't try to talk me into anything more expensive. He stayed within and even under my budget for this project (driveway retaining wall). I love the results! He also showed up when he said he would and the work was completed on time. I would definitely recommend Easy Landscaping!

David and his team are great! He was extremely responsive from the start and was able to get everything done in a timely manner. Very happy with the result to rear out our asphalt driveway with a collapsing apron and replace with concrete! I would highly recommend!

Absolutely a 5-star experience with Gene and Above All Construction. We had multiple projects (Full bathroom remodel, new driveway, new sidewalk) being done at once, and our expectations were exceeded in every way. Really well coordinated, every contributor was top-notch and the work came out great. Highly recommended.

Tom did a beautiful job on my new front walk and steps. Couldn't be more pleased at what a great job he did. Removed all of the old concrete very quickly and laid out a nice wide shape that looks great with my new driveway and small front yard.

Zach did an exceptional job with some driveway and walkway concrete work. He came out to estimate the job immediately, he got us a bid very quickly, and was able to do the job just a couple of days later. His quote was lower than 2 others and his work was exceptional. We will definitely call him again if we need similar work.

I hired Cornerstone to remove my asphalt driveway and replace it with concrete. John Lecy gave an accurate estimate, offered to replace my sidewalk very reasonably but did not up-sell. John knows concrete and is passionate about it. He and his employees were friendly, professional and did a great job.

I had a horrible driveway that by car couldn't even get up in the winter time, they replaced it and completely regraded it. It looks amazing! I honestly couldn't believe it could look that great. Very friendly crew of guys that I would recommend to anyone. Keep in mind though, the people that take the calls are the ones doing the work so they know what they are talking about but they are also busy laying concrete :)

The crew was punctual and extremely professional. They did a great job on re-laying part of the side patio pavers to correct a grading problem, despite the cold. I will definitely consider working with them again!

The job was to replace my asphalt driveway. I was very pleased with the way the job was done and love the way the completed job looks. There was a little problem with communication as far as when things were going to be done.

Md Concrete is professional and easy to work with. We had a colored and stamped driveway, front sidewalk, and patio done. The owner helped us pick the colors and design that would best compliment our home and landscape. We are very pleased with the results. Md Concrete isn't your average construction company. They are prompt (returning my initial phone call the same day and completing the work), courteous, and attentive to detail. We would use Md Concrete again in the future and would not hesitate to recommend them to our family and friends.

Gorman sealcoating done a great job on my driveway. I did not think a lot could be done. They managed to repair a broken up area and fill cracks that had grass growing through like a field. The coating they used I like a lot was definitely better then the stuff I used when I done it my self. All together the job was great they even came back the next year to fix some cracks that opened up from the winter.

Awesome Experience with a true professional that was willing to listen, advise and complete the promises with results! Tom was very communicative throughout the project , he was on-site and directing his crew and took the extra steps to make sure our property was left spotless and ready for the next phases. Tearing out 47 year old Shrubs/ Hedges and removing a prior poor choice of rock (by hand) re sloping the foundations / installing and concrete bolting of the new Window Wells... Great Crew that were sweeping my driveway clean at 9:30 at nite in the dark! A prime example of a 'smaller' company setting their own goal for customer satisfaction and taking pride in the finished project! Thanks Tom, Sheila and Brian

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
    • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
    • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
    • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
    • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
    • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

    What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
