Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: When it comes to teaching, I never "phone it in." I spend a lot of time planning efficient and interesting classes and organizing fun playlists to go with them. I want you to look forward to coming to my classes and not just come because you know you should exercise.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have been doing yoga since the early 1990s. At that time I started and maintained (for the most part) a once a week practice. My goal was to increase flexibility in my very inflexible body. The rest of my workouts were more the boot camp style. I didn’t much enjoy exercise (boot camp or yoga or anything else I tried). It was just something I knew I needed to do. My boot camp classes were a lot like my professional life. Demanding, draining, hectic and something I just got through. In yoga class, I moved through physical postures while making my next to-do list and thought I was being darn efficient. I was disengaged with all of it. Then I did something I thought I would never do – I quit my job. I had time to work out every day and I was doing lots of boot camp classes and gradually more yoga. I was working hard at the gym to slim down a bit for my wedding and I achieved my goal weight. It was the first time in a long time that I didn’t feel like a needed to lose a few pounds. This led me to cut back on the boot camp classes and do more yoga. I went to yoga class almost every day and something started to change. Yoga was doing so much more for me than helping with flexibility. Once I started to concentrate more on my breathing and the way my body was feeling I felt a new sense of well-being – in and out of the studio. I knew this was a feeling I wanted to share with others. In 2009, I attended a 200-hour teacher training with CorePower. I’ve been teaching ever since. I would guess I’ve taught 700-800 classes. I then expanded my offerings to teach barre classes in 2011. They compliment each other so well! If you want to know more about barre classes, google it. It's the hottest workout going right now; it's fun and will make you stronger than you've ever been. When I’m not teaching yoga, I am a stay-at-home-mom and wife with my daughter, Quinn and my husband, Mark. I am blessed that this is my life.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure the instructor you hire has experience with the same kind of group you are hiring for. Check references. Ask about training and request copies of their certifications. Check to see if their website is up-to-date. If it isn't, teaching is not a primary focus for them right now and that may show in their instruction.
