The first time Melissa did Reiki therapy on me I felt AMA-ZING!! The ability to channel in the energy of Reiki is a gift Melissa carries ever so eloquently. Melissa has a gift she is very passionate about, and her gift to be able to rid my aches and pains was something the traditional medicine doctors struggle with my entire life. Did she cure me? No. But she did help me get to a comfort level that I haven't been at for along time!! Melissa is very good at communicating the process of the session and is very knowledgeable about the crystals and combination of essential oils to create the best session. I will advise any person interested in or curious about Reiki to give Melissa an opportunity to share her gift with you, you will be amazed as I was!

Very relaxing and holistic! I was impressed by her knowledge! I liked the fact that she truly provided an hour massage rather than cutting short on time like other places.

My name is Peter. I have been taught Reiki by Irene for over two years , in a drop-in center for those with mental illness setting. I assist her in doing Reiki on members, and also receive Reiki from her. When we started, I was feeling disconnected from my mother, which was exacerbating my symptoms. I had been too messed up to help my mother through some bad times. Irene advised me to apologize to mom, tell her I`ll be with her spiritually and contribute to her health, and to tell her that I love her. Although Irene and mom never met, I feel that Irene and mom are in a healer-and-client relationship, and that I`m contributing to mom`s healing and feelings of being cared about. Irene has strong intuitive energy, and she came up with a perfect plan with which I can help heal mom, and hence myself. Irene is a natural healer of her clients ills, knowing what questions to ask to get to the root of a problem. She instinctively contributes to their health with Reiki but also with her personal advice. Clients come in with physical and psychic pain and problems, and she is able to alleviate the pain with Reiki. She also seems to have a broad knowledge of the physical body, treating ailments with physical therapy. Other clients feel that way I do, that Irene`s sessions leave them feeling more relaxed, hopeful, healthy and happy. She puts me at ease when I`m assisting her, and it leads to our being successful with clients. She has a lot of positive, healing energy to share.

Angela provides an excellent service. Her approach is personalized to the needs of the individual. In my experience, there was a sense that we were working as a team to improve my self awareness and ability to relate to others. My depression has been markedly improved as a result. I had underwhelming experiences with therapy until I started working with Angela.

My experiences at Synergize Yoga in Anoka, MN have been remarkable! The studio is warm and inviting and the yoga instructors show a great love and enthusiasm through sharing their practice with the students. I have been very fortunate to begin my practice here. In addition to being an exceptional yoga instructor, Kamie Slegers-Nicholls has helped me immensely through our monthly Ayurvedic consultations. Her attention to personal detail and her focus on the whole person, rather than merely symptoms, has truly made a positive impact on my well being. As a sufferer of chronic pain, anxiety, and depression, the combination of Ayurvedic medicine and yoga practice has been an integral part of my healing process. I am grateful to Kamie for all of her recommendations. It is nice to have someone with her knowledge and experience guide me along part of this long, winding journey! Thank you to all! Namasté.

I have worked with Viki for over a year, and have found great value in the time that I've spent with her. She skillfully asks questions that gets to the heart of issues, and is willing to shift focus when something new arises. I find great appreciation in her knowledge in food for every scenario--the medicine we consume every day. It is awesome to have a health expert who takes the time to know who I am.

Very professional yet cozy setting. I have had several sessions at Healing Hearts Holistic Lifecare and after each session of healings I have felt renewed and more connected with my spiritual self. My life goals were confirmed on a professional and personal level with such specificity that is almost unbelievable if not for the confirmations I receive with each goal reached. I would and have referred several friends and family and will continue to do so.

Genevieve was Excellent!!!!! A+++++++++++++++++++++ I would recommend her to all my family and friends!!! I had energy healing and my chakra's balanced. Although, it was a little expensive for me, it was worth every penny!! And I would do it again in a heartbeat!! My Knees always bother me from old ski injuries and I get a lot of upper back and neck pain from stress. I also felt like my chakra's were completely blocked. (This is something new I've been checking into with alternative medicine). During the session I could feel all of my knee, back and neck pain release and leave my body as she was working through each area. It was truly amazing!!! When I left I felt energy flowing and truly radiant and relaxed completely pain free!!!! It was a truly amazing experience and I plan to see her again! ! I have told many people and hope she can help them too!! Genevieve, I am only sorry I didn't get a chance to leave my feedback sooner!! I am an RN and work in a local hospital. I believe Genevieve has true healing powers. I haven't felt this good since I was in my 30's!! Thanks Genevieve and I hope to see you sometime soon!! Keep the energy flowing!! Tonia

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

    • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Nutritional medicine
    • Botanical medicine
    • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
    • Hygiene
    • Counseling
    • Minor surgery
    • Homeopathy
    • Acupuncture
    • Intravenous and injection therapy
    • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

    Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

    Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

    • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
      • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
    • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
      • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
      • Do I need a referral?
      • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
      • What will the co-pay be?
      • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
    • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
