Aaron was very responsive for a project that I needed to be done quickly. We were able to schedule something right away. He is also trustworthy. Because I was out of town at the time of the project, I gave him the garage code to the location. While painting, he kept me updated via text messages and sent me pictures of the final result. The project included painting a yellow/orange kitchen/dining room to a more neutral color and adding a layer of white paint to some window and stairs trim. I was quite happy with his work and would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Steve really is an awesome handyman! He put a bathroom door on, a towel rack, bathroom fan and fixed a toilet leak. He really knows what he is doing and he has such a positive personality. He answered my emails right away and was very punctual and reliable. He was a perfect handyman to work with and his work quality was really done. I can't say anything bad about him and will hire him again for sure.

I hired Barry to do several jobs around my house. He replaced the door sweep on my front door and fixed a flapper on a toilet for me and did some caulking in my bathroom. He also removed some laminate flooring in a room and will be painting several rooms for me. He is very professional and always responds in a timely manner I feel confident hiring Barry and would highly recommend him to anyone needing home improvement or repair tasks.

I had my interior trim and doors installed and painted. I had started the process a couple years ago, but was having difficulty finishing the project with 3 young boys and all there activities. I hired Adventure 25 to come out and give a bid and they could start the project in about a week. The first part of the process was to finish the trim work and rip all the basement trim out and a couple of doors that had not been replaced yet. The trim work was done in a couple of days. The painting was delayed because of rainy weather. This is where the stress begins. The prep work that comes before painting can be a lot of work and time consuming. There was little to no prep of the trim. Lots of missed nail holes, lots of missed caulking and the stuff that was done was very poor. I was told that this is high quality paint and it will cover in one coat. I know better. It can take several coats to make the white trim look good. There was paint all over the wood floors, tile in kitchen, paint on the cabinets, paint on my trees outside, paint on the concrete driveway, paint on my fire pit. There seemed to be no care in the world. Jaimie kept telling me that we are not painters. I understand that but my 5 year could of done better. It was supposed to be rolled and instead there was pain brush marks all the trim. The one painter said he thought it would look cute to but swirls with his brush on the top of all the door trims. I met with Jaimie 4 different times to which he said how do I make this right? I would go through things with him and come home at the end of the day to find more of a mess and continued poor quality work. I have never seen anything like this. He would say it would be fixed but I don't think he would watch over his workers and forget to tell them things. I am stressed out beyond believe as my hope was to have this finished to spend more time with my kids. Instead I have to redo most of it. I had another contractor come out and told me it would be about 10 thousand to fix. He never had seen such poor quality work. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. Very nice person but I think he was over his head and always in a rush, hence the poor quality work. Since I cant pay 10 thousand to someone to fix it, I am now looking at a year or so to fix my trim. Very frustrated and angry customer.

Larry helped us with a few misc. projects and did a great job with all of them! He fixed the drawers on a wooden dresser, fixed the storm door and installed a new chain for it, installed a new light switch, removed a wooden cabinet over the electrical panel, installed a deadbolt, attached a magnet clasp on another dresser swinging door, and even checked on a chimney flue cap He was professional and cleaned up after himself and also provided helpful tips on other items in our home. We would definitely hire Larry again and recommend him to family and friends.

Literally saved the sale of our home! Saved the day, big time! We were in the process of selling our home and there were a few conditions we had to meet before closing. We had a sliding glass patio door and a storm door that both had locks but they were broken. These seemed like simple projects that could be put at the bottom of the list. Boy, were we wrong. By the time we got around to looking at it we found it was not something simple and easy to find at the store. In fact, we shopped many stores and they all told us it was something they had never seen before. We called Locksmiths and they all refused to even discuss our projects. No one would help us with these locks, not even Locksmiths. We ended up finding an ad for Metro Lockout and when we called they were not at all surprised that we could not find anyone to work with our locks, he said they get a lot of calls for patio doors. I tried to get a price but they said for patio doors they need to see it and find the parts and then can provide a no-obligation quote. They did exactly what they said they would do. He came out, took the lock apart, took some notes and put the lock back on. (this was all at 6:15pm when I got home from work) Turns out the hardware for the lock on my sliding glass door was out of date and no longer on the market. Todd called around to see if he could find it and couldn't. He then said he can make some changes and modifications to make something similar (but not exact) to fit. The only other option we found was to get the door replaced but that was a much longer project and the quotes we got for that were much higher than the cost of Todd doing the work-around he created. Todd ordered the hardware, installed it on one of the hottest days of the year (and humid) and it looks great! I almost don't even want to move anymore...almost. Seriously though, it looks better than before. We are grateful that they were willing to take on our project, made it a priority as the sale of our home depended on it, did the research and didn't give up when that research came to a dead end. They went the extra mile and found a way to make it work without us having to buy a new door on a home we were moving out of. They worked with our schedule, cleaned up nicely afterwards and were so pleasant. We not only would recommend them to someone else, everyone else, but we have also used them again already. We hired them again to come and rekey our new home once we moved in. The second time around was no less quality than the first. Worked with our schedule, fast and friendly, got a return customer discount and went the extra mile by adding some additional layers of security to our new home. Not sure when or why we'll need Metro Lockout again, but I'm looking forward to it.

I had Greg out to help us work on sealing up the bottom of the side door entrance to our house. It was kind of a tricky set-up, but they worked hard to make sure that the work was completed successfully and to our satisfaction, even making a couple of trips to the hardware store to get some additional supplies. Will definitely hire again for future handyman needs.

Excellent work on the front door casing. Julio matched the original door casing and replaced it entirely while still looking like it came with the house. Very impressed and will work with him and his team on future projects as well.

My home has had a deck door, patio door, and several windows installed by New Windows for America. The suggestions for styles to enhance my home's appearance were remarkable. I know this sounds clichè but the quality and craftsmanship are excellent.

I took a big chance, and asked for someone to fix a guest bathroom door that wouldn't shut all the way because the bottom of the door needed to be planed. Casey responded right away, and was at my house in 10 minutes!! He also fixed a problem with my storm door lock which has been bugging me for over a year. He is awesome!!

The project was a siding replacement for house and garage. Half of the house is two floors. In total there was about 2400 square feet of floor. We used heavy duty vinyl siding. There were a lot of lights, doors, windows, corners, etc to work around. The crew did excellent work meeting these challanges. Additionally, we went with full metal cladding for all window & door trim as well as fascia, and veranda support structure. The metal cladding was formed on site and perfectly fit everything it was applied to. The crew was here at 7:00 am ready to start and worked till after 6:30 pm. Mr. Lessard was here most of the time when he wasn't retrieving additional materials that were needed as the work progressed. The result was a project that went smoothly from start to finish. It is now a year later and there have been no problems due to winter weather or spring storms. We are totally happy with the results and have no regrets for choosing to go with Tier1 Restoration.

We will be hanging onto his card for future jobs. Sometimes it is worth the money to pay someone to do the job quickly and correctly. No more DIY struggles for me!!! Wilmer is awesome.

I needed someone to replace our front door handle and deadbolt. I attempted the project myself which left us with an non locking front door, so I needed someone on short notice. Jamie came over the next day. He was very prompt. He pieced together the As Is door kit I purchased from Home Depot. It was missing instructions and an important bolt. Jamie drove to Home Depot to get the missing piece and didn't even charge me extra for this unexpected hiccup. He was polite, friendly, and even brought in a little broom/dust pan to clean up his work space. I think he really went above and beyond!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.
