Hello Everyone! Thanks for looking at my lessons page. I strive to provide a fun and supportive environment for each student to learn and grow. We all want something different, and I am able to tailor lessons and exercises to meet your specific needs and goals. I have studied a number of different styles and genres of music, and am able to bring my experience with these diverse elements to you. With 20 years of professional teaching experience, I am sure that we can create a plan to get you to where you want to be. I love to play the drums. I have enjoyed making music since my earliest memories of tapping out rhythms on the kitchen table. Sharing my knowledge and passion for the instrument is something that I am proud of.

learning how to play drums in my thirties could have been an idea quickly lost after a few boring lessons but then i met mike. mike marcinowski is an exceptional teacher; patient, knowledgeable, talented, structured, enthusiastic and supportive. from theoretical to practical, mike expertly teaches me the basics of drumming and then how to apply them to playing along to music and creating my own songs! i leave each lesson excited and inspired and that is because of the care and fun that mike puts into our time.

As the drummer in my funk band, Middle Blue, Mike provides both an airtight rhythmic foundation and a sense of adventure. In other words, the beat is always concrete, but never *too* straight. He's always doing something interesting or mysterious with it. Also, he's full of surprises. Just the other day, he threw a rhythmic idea at me that I hadn't heard from him, and we've been playing together for over a year. If I were a drummer, I'd be excited to take lessons with Mike.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $35 a half hour and $60 an hour for lessons.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first thing I do is figure out what the student wants to learn, then we create short term and long term goals to work towards. These could be specific like learning a particular song or groove, or more abstract, like how to play jazz.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have degrees in classical percussion performance and performance based ethnomusicology. In addition I have participated in several jazz residencies and taken countless masterclasses and studied privately with many amazing teachers and performers. I have played music on many different stages, and toured across the US. I have experience performing in rock, jazz, funk, country, gospel and pop groups, as well as solo percussion and ensemble performances.
