- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I am blessed to report that 80-90% of the people that seek me out as a trainer have received the results they were hoping for. I'm not perfect and every trainer will fall short somewhere, but I never give up on a trainee. I put my ALL into every single person that is kind enough to trust me with their fitness journey. I give the guidelines, but my clients have to put in the work. Some of the people I haven't been able to help reach their fitness goal(s) goes back to what I said before about being mentally prepared for a lifestyle change. A true lifestyle change ALWAYS starts with your thought life. How you perceive yourself and the world around you will make or break your fitness transformation. If I have someone who is bashing their body image, or constantly complaining or using the "victim card" I think to myself, "Uh, oh. Red flag. They're not ready." There's been times I've ever turned some people away or put their training on hold because I didn't want them to spend their money on something they aren't mentally prepared for. I do a lot of praying when I have these conversations because I never want anyone to think that I don't care about them or that I'm tossing their wellness goals to the side. On the contrary! I am always wanting the best for every person God brings into my life. They're there for a reason and it's one of the ways I show tough love. Two of the people I've had to have this conversation with still train with me and are in the mindset to get fit! They've both become my dear friends!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
OH yes!! Every year I have to take classes to renew my CPR and First Aid certification along with renewing my P.T. and Pilates certification. I recently took a TRX class and Kettlebell class. I try and go to yoga class once a month and speak with the instructor after the class. I am involved with a business networking group that meets once a month. I visit new gyms once a month to keep up on new equipment and of course...meet new people! I subscribe to Women's and Men's Health and read a Fitness Magazine at least once a week. I follow Fit Biz online and they have free webinars and online seminars that I participate in once a month. I am always trying to meet new trainers to stay inspired, motivated and keep up on new and exciting routines and/or equipment. I go to local wellness events often. I try to hit up a wellness expo every three months. I even subscribed to a online weekly webinar to keep up on the fitness social media trends. Oh my word; it never stops! Make it stop.
