Jerrie went out of her way to accommodate us and took time to come meet us so that we felt comfortable for our first time. I have two young pups and training can be a challenge, she is knowledgeable, patient and kind. We also needed someone on short notice and she came through for us, we will definitely use her again! I recently had the opportunity to work with Shahar from Four Winds Dog Training. What a tremendous experience both for me and my dog. I have never worked with a dog trainer before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I provided some basic information about what I was looking for and Shahar responded that she could deliver the service I needed. She arrived promptly and ready to start training right away. She was very polite, knowledgable, and patient. My Bassett Hound tends to be timid around new people so I wasn't sure how he would react to a trainer. It took less than ten minutes after meeting Homer for Shahar to peak his interest. Watching her interact with Homer in such a gentle but confident way, explaining to me every movement she was making and why was very interesting. Homer responded in no time. I was very impressed. It was the exact opposite of what I might have expected from Homer given his introduction to strangers in the past. I learned a great deal from the experience. I highly recommend giving Four Winds a try.

Working with Rita has been a phenomenal experience. She is professional, knowledgeable, but more than that she is an excellent instructor. You explain what you need and she has a resolution. Rita makes training easy. She makes sure you know how to work with your dog. Her hands on training gives you the knowledge and confidence to continue training. Both you and your dog will benefit from working with Rita. It’s reward based and fun. Don’t worry if you’re not getting it Rita is a phone call away. Her time with you is not just a schedule and we’ll talk about it on your next visit. She is there in between to guide you. I can not say enough about this remarkable woman and Canine Revival.

Lori at Brown's Dog Training, Lodging, and More was FANTASTIC! Our Pitbull lab turned one when he was with Lori. He chewed on everything, including us - jumped on everyone, pulled us along as we tried to walk him, and chewed through more wires than I thought was possible. He was very loving though which lead me on a hunt for a dog trainer! Lori texted me and answered all my questions as fast as she could while running a business. We went to her house and met with her when we dropped Norbert, our one year old dog, off. She made promises to us, and frankly, I didn't think it would be possible to turn this destructive dog around. A few weeks later - she gave us a call and said it was time for Norbert to come home. We met her outside and she got Norbert out of her car (yes - she transports!!) He didn't jump, he didn't pull, and I thought, "Anyone can be good for a few minutes." She came inside for our "Train the Human Time." She kind of had to laugh at me as she trained me - but I think she left with a little confidence in me. I eventually got my dog to listen as well as he did to Lori. She left - and he still listened! He is a very good dog now that we can take into public, and more importantly, not worry about him being around our toddler.

Jenny is a professional pet care provider. She does an excellent job taking care of our two dogs and two cats. When we interviewed her she had a lot of questions for us about our pets, she really wanted to get to know them. We have a new puppy and Jenny wanted to know the all the verbal and non-verbal commands to help him pass level 1ASPCA training.

Sally is AMAZING! She is very accommodating in her schedule. She is very patient with the process, especially with the owner (me) who needs more training than my fur baby! Thank you, Sally for giving me the tools to enjoy my sweet Belle even more!

Roxanne is amazing! She has worked so diligently with our family and our puppy's needs. Any problem we were having, she had a way to address it. The best part is, it works!! She has a miracle solution for every instance. Roxanne is always willing to listen and do what is best for the family and the dog. Her techniques are easy to follow and always positive! She has reassured our family that we are making progress and are doing what is best for our puppy. We have seen wonderful changes in our puppy and are excited to continue to work with Roxanne. :)

Sammi always does a great job taking care of the huge menagerie that we have. She's flexible and is easy to work with (and puts up with all the changing and long-winded instructions I leave). The animals all love her. She leaves great notes about how things went while we were gone. We've been using her for years and love her.

About

I have experience with all breeds but specialize in bully breeds. I have been training service dogs for the past 3 years with which all dogs have been very successful.

About

I am a certified dog trainer, and I use only positive training methods. The clicker/reward is a great fun way to work with a dog! Being a good leader versus using dominance or pack leader is more productive and teachable. I also have a dog rescue and work with problems that rescues sometimes bring with them. I am a support system during any training process.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
