I've been working with Jonathan for about 8 months and I can't speak highly enough about his breadth of knowledge spanning everything fitness and nutrition. He listens well and truly empathizes with the stresses of my work and parenting life and caters the right fitness and nutrition plan to push me to hit my goals, without going too far. He got this 41-year-old, career-driven, single mama through marathon training and truly helped me keep my sanity to the end, and that was tough! I look forward to building more goals and getting to the leanest and strongest I've ever been with Jonathan's guidance.

I let my life go. I was very over weight and had just been prescribed anti-depressants from my doctor. My daily routine was my job, eating, and laying on the couch watching TV. I knew things had to change. I interviewed 5 different trainers on thumbtack and decided to go with Trevor Hoha and Beyond Personal Training. I was nervous and scared. But, within 6 months I had lost 40 pounds and was off of the anti-depressants! Trevor guided my through workout routines that he designed specifically for me and my goals. He provided me with good nutrition information and gave me the confidence to achieve my results. I have pride in myself, better health and more energy. I have a better self image and I look good! My friends and family are blown away by my transformation. A co-worker and a personal friend now have signed on with Trevor also and are having great results! I can not put into words how grateful I am for hiring Trevor! My advise to anyone reading this... INVEST IN YOURSELF!

I had met with a lot of trainers, but knew I'd like working with Marcus. He is knowledgeable in personal training as well as nutrition, which is a great combination. He took the time to understand my goals and walked me through how we would get there. His workouts are tough, but I leave feeling energized and looking forward to the next!

Allan (Body Evolution Fitness) laid out a comprehensive program that was easy to follow. Included both diet and an exersice routine that was not only age appropriate but also allowed me to gain muscle mass and strength that I thought this 60 year old body would never see again. What impresses me most about Allan is his knowledge about body mechanics and his understanding of nutrition. He is also very patient and understands we are all human! I am in better shape today than I was when I was in my forties thanks to Allan and Body Evolution Fitness! Ray

Very knowledgeable and professional. I have had a very positive experience working with Ruth. She listened to my goals and helped me with my nutrition and exercise plan. We met weekly to check in and Review my food journal. If I was struggling she would ask questions and then give me advice to get me through. She was also very helpful as I was recovering from a surgery suggesting modifications for my workouts. Ruth is very genuine and wants the best for everyone!

Training with Eric has been amazing. I was nervous to start because I have a lower back injury, and I didn’t want to make it worse. Eric has been able to modify every workout so I get the best results. He is the best trainer I have ever worked with and he gave me confidence and pushed me beyond my comfort Zone. Eric works very closely helping to give you nutrition advice, and follows up weekly or daily. He cares about each person he traines with and is the most passionate trainer I have ever met. I recommend Eric to anyone looking to lose weight, tone up, or to get started on your fitness journey. You won’t regret it!

I've been working with Jesse for a few months now with my nutrition. He's explanation and leadership through macronutrient placement according to my specific goals has been invaluable. I'm learning so much! Not only that, he's challenged me with a few personal training sessions that have spiced up my workout regiment. He can push me so much harder than I can push myself and he keeps me accountable to the goals I have set. Life happens and it's hard to stay on track, (even with good intentions) but with Jesse in my corner, I'm not just staying on track, I am seeing results! He is professional, smart, passionate and makes training fun...Even though I'm getting my butt kicked! ;) - Courtney

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.
