Nick delivered. First to respond, first to bid, first to talk. Responding within 10 seconds of an email. We only had five days to paint, and he bid one day, gave us a day to choose colors, and bought the paint for us, painting the majority of the interior of our 3 bedroom in one day. Not a single blemish, no spills, and charming on top of it. Thanks, Nick. Bam!

I was impressed with Steve from the minute we first met and shook hands. He listened to what my wishes were, gave great ideas when asked and never made me feel like I was asking for the moon. His stellar professionalism is hard to find these days, especially at an affordable rate! He followed up with a quote when he promised and got started on the project almost right away. We didn't make it easy on him having to communicate with 2 different people but he managed us just fine! What REALLY made an impression on me was how smart he was with his billing and follow up. He would send pictures of what he accomplished every time (I was only on-site once a week) and send very detailed invoices with a "Pay" now button, which made it so quick and convenient! He sent pictures of any receipts for materials he purchased that day as well. You just never know what you're going to get these days when hiring someone, but I can tell you - I definitely trust Steve and am putting him in my speed dial :) Tasks performed: clean/prep/paint kitchen cabinets, install new hinges and hardware, order and install new countertop, repair and paint walls, install backsplash "sticky" tiles, install under-cabinet lighting, replace electrical outlets, replace toilet components, fix a crooked bedroom door so it shuts quietly, and made any adjustments to work as we requested. AND he came in at estimate! No, he's not too good to be true! He's real!

I hired Aaron to paint a couple of popcorn ceilings. I tried painting the ceilings on my own, but realized I needed a professional painter. Aaron painted both ceilings (one room was large) in three hours and his work looks fantastic. I'm very satisfied with the finished work. Aaron was professional, worked hard, and paid attention to detail. He answered my questions and shared some painting tips. He is a man of integrity who cares about the quality of his work and having satisfied customers. I will not hesitate to call Aaron for future painting needs.

Greg has a great temperament. He painted my deck as if it was a work of art. He even helped to repair some damaged rails. We'll be hiring him again. Oh, and his rate was reasonable. Thanks Greg.

We have hired Ivarson Interiors for at least four big interior painting projects at our rental properties. We have also used Kayla in our own home to paint the main level and basement. She is knowledgable, honest, flexible and on top of all of that - affordable. We are glad to have someone like her to call when a project arrises.

I had my interior trim and doors installed and painted. I had started the process a couple years ago, but was having difficulty finishing the project with 3 young boys and all there activities. I hired Adventure 25 to come out and give a bid and they could start the project in about a week. The first part of the process was to finish the trim work and rip all the basement trim out and a couple of doors that had not been replaced yet. The trim work was done in a couple of days. The painting was delayed because of rainy weather. This is where the stress begins. The prep work that comes before painting can be a lot of work and time consuming. There was little to no prep of the trim. Lots of missed nail holes, lots of missed caulking and the stuff that was done was very poor. I was told that this is high quality paint and it will cover in one coat. I know better. It can take several coats to make the white trim look good. There was paint all over the wood floors, tile in kitchen, paint on the cabinets, paint on my trees outside, paint on the concrete driveway, paint on my fire pit. There seemed to be no care in the world. Jaimie kept telling me that we are not painters. I understand that but my 5 year could of done better. It was supposed to be rolled and instead there was pain brush marks all the trim. The one painter said he thought it would look cute to but swirls with his brush on the top of all the door trims. I met with Jaimie 4 different times to which he said how do I make this right? I would go through things with him and come home at the end of the day to find more of a mess and continued poor quality work. I have never seen anything like this. He would say it would be fixed but I don't think he would watch over his workers and forget to tell them things. I am stressed out beyond believe as my hope was to have this finished to spend more time with my kids. Instead I have to redo most of it. I had another contractor come out and told me it would be about 10 thousand to fix. He never had seen such poor quality work. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. Very nice person but I think he was over his head and always in a rush, hence the poor quality work. Since I cant pay 10 thousand to someone to fix it, I am now looking at a year or so to fix my trim. Very frustrated and angry customer.

Pablo just left my home after coming in and doing a super fantastic job. What a refreshingly great experience we had. My floating floors had come apart in several tricky places and I needed someone who was comfortable working with floors, baseboards, etc. He came in ahead of the scheduled time ready to go and did a really good work. My wife was so impressed that he wanted to know what else Pablo does and we will likely be using him to paint our whole main floor soon. Besides the quality of his work, he is very personable and his pricing is super competitive.

Julio switched out some peeling linoleum on my kitchen floor last year to beautiful tiles that I picked out. It looks gorgeous now! He does expert work, and attends to the small details. I have an older house, and some of the windows need to be replaced. Several weeks ago, Julio installed replacement windows and built new frames for my kitchen windows, insulated them, and painted the trim to match. I can't believe how beautiful they look; I am so happy!

We have steel siding on our house that only half was replaced because of hail damage a few years ago. We had them match the paint of the new siding and paint the older half and it turned out great. Very happy with results. They completed quickly and did a great job! We will recommend them to everyone.

I needed to have my townhouse painted so I could put it on the market. I had 2 problems: what color should I have my unit painted and how quickly could it get done. I talked to Steve who suggested the perfect paint and set up the job so I could put my townhome on the market as scheduled. Thank you Steve and CertaPro!

I used ProTect Painters to paint my kitchen cabinets and walls. They also put up a tile backsplash. I am so pleased with their work. The painter was on time every single day. The painter worked diligently throughout the week. They also cleaned up better than any workers I have ever used before. I highly recommend these painters.

Great experience with Wilson. He came to see the walls before he quoted the job. He gave a reasonable estimate and predicted the right amount of paint. He did the work on a Saturday so I didn't need to take time off work. He did a great job, and got it done within around 6 hours. Other painters quoted as much as 3 days. I'm very happy with his work. And he was really responsive and pleasant to work with. I intend to refer him to family and friends.

I am so happy with the work that was done. Mr. Elliott came over this morning to give me a quote. After looking at what needed to be done, he said that he could do the job today. He asked me to get more paints, which I did. Unbelievably, about eight hours later he had completed the project. I could not be happier with his work. I am so glad that I hired J. Elliott Baldwin. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
