Eliane was great to work with she was very excited to help my hubby and I create a great experience at our wedding reception for family and friends. Jason our attendant had great energy as he rallied everyone to participate. He explained how the process worked and even made some costume recommendations. We did not have an official photographer for our wedding reception so it was important for the booth to captured the playful, down-to-earth mood that we were looking for. Jason help this occur. Eliane and Jason thank for the passion that you have for the work that you do. It shows in your hard work and dedication. My mom wants to hire you for her joint 50th wedding anniversary and 70th birthday party in the spring! We want Jason! ;-)

Gialiane was fantastic! I asked Giliane to photograph my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Giliane was a professional from start to end -- she was easy to communicate with, made it easy for me to pay online, and even gave me photobook options at the end. My parents will cherish her photos for years to come. Thank you Giliane!!

Wedding photography and engagement shoot. Yale is really fun to work with and keeps your group in line. We had a wedding party of 16 people and he came up with many shot ideas. He did whatever he needed to "get the shot" - he laid on the floor, stood on chairs, etc. His second shooter was also great to work with. The whole day was awesome and I am excited to see the final products.

I wish I could give them 10 stars!! I connected with Make Your Name/ Make Your Memory on a whim and I cant be happier that I ended up working with them! From our initial pre-booking conversation, Sara was warm and friendly, instantly putting me at ease that we were making the best decision going with her company to film our wedding. They have a range of price points which worked perfectly for our shorter event. On the day of our wedding, Sara was there early with all her equipment. She was so great to work with; she has an awesome personality and went the extra mile for a great shot. I'm excited to see our wedding video and would book Make Your Name/ Make Your Memory in a heart beat. You cant go wrong with their company, they really are great at what they do and how they go about doing it!

I used Tim and Madie Photography for my wedding and also for a commercial shoot for work. Tim is great to work with, you can really tell he puts his heart into his photography, capturing the moment and always getting the best shots from the best angles. I cannot say enough about how impressed I have been with the final product and the service alike. For anything I need photography-related, Tim and Madie Photography is my go-to and should be yours as well!

I hired Matthias to photograph my parents 50th wedding anniversary party and he did a fantastic job. The photos--both staged and candid--are great. My family and others at the reception were impressed with how he "blended in" and did not interrupt the flow of the party and conversations. He was easy to work with and efficient--he showed up on time for the event and also delivered the final pictures back to us very quickly.

I set up a bodiour photo shoot with Courtney as a surprise gift for my husband on our wedding night. She did amazing! I'm kinda awkward, by no means a model or the size of a model but none of that mattered. Courtney did an amazing job with making me feel comfortable and making me look great! We did 6 outfits in 3 locations for a very reasonable price! Best of all my husband loves the photos and book of me I gifted to him. I always catch him peeking at it!

I have nothing but great things to say about Mind of Mo Photography! Maurisa did both our engagement and wedding photos. I found her on thumbtack and originally only wanted a couple of hours of wedding photography. After talking with her I liked her so much I added engagement photos and after doing engagement photos with her I was so happy that I decided to have her for the whole day. I'm so glad I did! She captured everything and i didn't even have to think about it! It was easy to be ourselves and she captured pictures that were totally "us". She even saved the day with snacks when I didn't have time to eat before the wedding! I highly recommend her, we've gotten so many compliments on our photos. Great memories of your wedding day are priceless!

Mike did such a fantastic job as our videographer for our wedding. I ended up deciding just 2 weeks before the wedding that I had to have a videographer and used this website. He contacted me immediately and we were able to move forward with the contract within the same day. Mike came very prepared in knowing exactly what I wanted and to get all the right shots. I for sure wanted the ceremony, speeches, and first dances, and he did that plus every other detail from our wedding day. He worked very closely with our photographer which helped everything go smooth. Mike was very timely in getting us our highlight video, full feature video, and even some fun outtakes. He even sent us a link to our video as well as DVDs. Seriously everything is perfect and I know that we will cherish this video forever. If you are looking for someone who will make your day extra special, go with Mike!!

Marla totally understood our vision and came up with her own complementary ideas for our engagement photo shoot in Saint Cloud. Her price was very reasonable and there were no surprise fees or charges at any point. We had to reschedule our shoot at one point because of our own mismanagement and she rolled with it! We met the following weekend and it went off without a hitch. She's brilliantly talented and a genuinely fun person to be with - we clicked with her so well that we have since booked her to do our wedding! Five stars, no question!

We really love working with Anders for our family / wedding photo shoot. It is a wedding photo shoot with our families, making up for our earlier elopement wedding. Working with a large group of 9 people in a large setting (the landscape arboretum), Anders was extremely patience. He was in the car with us driving around to find the perfect spot with the best lighting. He made sure he caught the best moment of everyone. Some of our family members were not used to photo shoot in motions and got nervous with cameras. He tried to hide when he took their pictures. He has great appreciation of nature and landscape. The places he chose was stunning, even it was his first time to the arboretum. He sent us the photos 2 days after the event. We were so happy with the photos!!! The tone was adjusted to be soft and poetic. People is well balanced with the beautiful nature. Everyone looks great in the photos! I would definitely work with him again in our future photo shoots.

We loved working with Morgan. She did a great job capturing our wedding day and the video she made turned out amazing! At first we didn't think we needed a videographer but decided to hire Morgan in the end. I'm so glad we did!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.
