Michael M.

Michael Boyd completed an upgraded kitchen remodel in July of 2003 at our home in Aurora, MO. The job took approximately 3 weeks to finish. Michael was very exacting and meticulous about his work. He even matched the molding above the cabinets he installed with the existing crown molding in our kitchen. He completed the job on time and his work was excellent. He also completed a large cabinet for our double ovens that included a slotted cabinet above for oven trays. Michael also installed 5 new doors on our cabinets that included two that contained glass fronts. He cut Victorian arched trim below the glass cabinetry that went with our Victorian home. He installed a wood top made of teak on a built-in desk. In addition, he installed bead board above counter tops in kitchen. Michael also installed all wood type laminate on counter top areas in kitchen. He also repaired and installed new wood runners on our built in breadboard. He completed custom trim on all cabinets including tops of cabinets and counter tops. He also installed 8 drawer guides and fronts with easy closing ability to our kitchen drawers. In addition, Michael completed all tear off work involving cabinets himself. My wife especially liked the custom glass doors that he made for our cabinet that displayed our dishes. We truly enjoyed working with Michael on our kitchen remodel. We also hired Michael later to complete a washer/dryer installation with all the necessary plumbing that was needed. We had him move the washer/dryer from our basement to a utility room just off the kitchen. He built a special custom cabinet behind the washer/dryer to hide the plumbing fixtures. In addition, Michael built a broom closet with an upper cabinet above for storage. He also built two additional cabinets above the washer/dryer for storage in this utility room. We truly appreciated all the quality and professional work that Micheal Boyd completed in our kitchen and utility room. We would highly recommend him to anyone who desires excellent cabinetry work in their kitchen or home.

Mike Boyd was a decent enough cabinet maker for our needs. The problem arose with the countertop we also had him make , with his lack of communication, and his failure to meet agreed upon deadlines. We hired Mike in June 2017 and the job was to be completed by August 10, 2017 due to our work schedule. He didn’t contact us to begin installing the cabinets. All communication was initiated by me and I would have to wait multiple days for any reply. Once the first set/wave of installation was complete, Mike had to admit he had not taken a few critical measurements and thus, our cabinets don’t align in the front and the drawer front he made did not remotely match the existing drawer fronts. The second step was to build and install the countertop. It looked great with the nice profile finishing the edge. When he caulked, he missed several spots. After the countertop was installed he had to install a few more cabinets. During this time the brand new countertop was damaged. He finally got the last of the cabinets installed, over six weeks past the promised finish date. We are generally happy with the cabinetry, but the brand new countertop has a very visible blemish that he tried to fix using marker. He then told us he was waiting to hear back from the company on how to fix it and has since stopped returning calls and text messages. Given the opportunity to hire him again, I would decline.

I had fast service with good workmanship and the rate was fair. I would recommend Black Forest Specialties.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I really enjoy all phases of the work on a project. From the bidding to designing and planing. Then into production and the finishing touch. Onto the installation.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I grew up in a family of woodworkers and worked alongside of a master woodworker. And just developed my skills over the years to where it just became a part of me.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I have done work for contractors in the past but most of my work has been done dealing directly with the homeowner.
