"Elise was great! She was friendly, professional, and arrived on time. She listened when someone asked for more or less pressure for their massage. We will be asking her to give chair massages for our group again!"

"Alex came to me on a holiday which is unheard of. Thank you very much for your time and professional knowledge in massage therapy. Deep tissue is what I asked for and had to tap out twice, unless you have a desire for pain or an extremely high threshold I'd suggest a strong swedish or sports. Alex has the strength and know how to dissipate knots built up from stress or something else. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you in the future. Good luck Alex."

"Chris has healing hands. We were looking for a therapist to provide chair massage for a women's retreat, and are so glad we hired him. He was able to provide deep tissue work for my shoulders and upper back - my knots are gone! He provided professional, relaxing chair massage for 8 of us, and all of us would highly recommend! "

"Michael is great. After my first session, I was sore and my muscles were screaming at me not to go back. He's one of those trainers that doesn't take excuses, he doesn't let you say I can't. He knows your limits, but pushes you past them because he knows what it takes to get results. Everyone at the gym is super friendly and welcoming. They all expect that if you come once, you will keep coming back. Michael is very personable and is dedicated to helping his clients. I look forward to meeting and surpassing my goals with Michael before I head off to college! When I come back on breaks, I will definitely be returning to him. "

"I've been coming to Michael for several years now and still make sure to schedule a massage with him when I'm in town after moving to northern Texas. You will not find anyone more educated, experienced, or a more effective massage. I have tried several massage therapists and never found one who cares about his clients health and wellness more than him. I have an autoimmune disease and he researches new methods and incorporates it into his work. Also, never had a better massage than the ones he provides. He caters to what your body needs, so each massage is different and based on what your body needs at that session. He's extremely professional and I'm glad to call him a friend after coming to his business for so many years. He is able to provide deep pressure and long strokes and can also perform lighter massages, too. You will not regret visiting him. He cares about you getting your best massage for your body's needs and about your wellness. I always leave feeling brand new and sleep and feel much better after a visit."

"Tony is such an amazing massage therapist. He listened to my concerns and tailored the massage based on my needs. He explained the benefits of the technique he was using, I appreciated that the most. Can't wait for my next appointment!"

"Kelley addressed the areas I was having pain in and diligently worked on those areas. Even though I had a short, last minute session I left feeling so much better. I will definitely be back and I'd highly recommend her services to anyone in need of a professional and friendly massage therapist."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
