FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Some jobs, like weddings, have fixed prices. With other projects, such as custom shoots, the cost varies because the amount of work varies. My goal is to earn about $40 an hour, including the time I spend editing.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Photography is a deceptively simple practice. Push a button and get a photo? Unless you are lucky, creating a good image is a process that requires quick calculations regarding lighting, motion and depth, all in a fleeting moment. There's also a significant post-production process to the work. I estimate that for every hour I spend shooting, I'll spend two or three hours photoshopping images for best quality and selecting images that best capture a moment. In this way, the photographic process is like an iceberg, with a significant portion of the work occurring below the surface.
