The services received was awesome. The carpet looked very good and smelled fresh. We had to get our main room deep cleaned nd it took the longest to dry, he came in at 9:15 am and was gone by 11:45 am and the carpets were dry by the time we went to bed. We will use his services again in a heart beat.

I was pleased as they cleaned a traffic area & 13 steps which were in need of cleaning. Martin & his assistant were very professional. Even though it was steam cleaned, carpets were not soaking wet & were dry within 24 hours or less. I will mention our appointment was between 12 - 4. As I recall it was. 4::30 when they called to say they were on their way

When I booked with Steamatics I asked if they moved beds and other heavy furniture and was told led by the female who booked the appointment that they did not move beds, but did move sofas, chairs, coffee and end tables. The technicians did not move anything to clean the areas. They did move a large plant and the coffee table in the living room. The reason they moved the coffee table in the living room was because I have an oriental rug beneath the table. That was the only exception. and said they do not move sofas, etc. I did not observe them doing the actual cleaning but they were quick. Some areas remained dry as they did not shampoo or clean the areas at all. They did help to place my box springs and king sized mattress back, which I moved myself; which I appreciated. They invoiced me for the $133 until Tuesday, due to the holiday hours observed by my bank.

Very nice crew. They explained the process as they went along. They got my carpets cleaner than I thought they would be able to (pets). The only issue I have is that the carpet has taken several days to dry and there are still places that are wet. I will use them again, just have them "super-suck" the carpet.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How do you find a good carpet cleaning company?

Regular professional carpet cleaning can both extend the life of your carpet and remove harmful pollutants from your home. Finding a good carpet cleaning company is an important aspect of home maintenance. When choosing a carpet cleaner, consider these top three questions:

  • What method of carpet cleaning do you prefer? Steam cleaning is an increasingly popular method because it’s thorough and safe, and dries quickly enough for you to return to your home the same day the carpets are cleaned.
  • Have you checked the company’s references? Most cities are home to several carpet cleaning companies, so it’s a good idea to check their reviews and references. Look for references from people in your neighborhood with homes similar to yours.
  • What’s included in the base price? What other services does the carpet cleaning company offer? Some companies will move furniture for you, while others charge a fee for it. Some include stairs in the cost of the home’s cleaning, while others charge per step.

What does carpet cleaning cost?

National average carpet cleaning prices range between $100 and $130. Carpet cleaning prices depend on how many square feet of carpet you want cleaned, how many rooms in one house or building will be cleaned, how stained your carpet is, how much the carpet cleaning company charges, your ZIP code, and the type of carpet you have. Cost per square foot can range from 20 cents to $1 or more, based on the above variables. Synthetic carpets are typically the least expensive to clean; natural fibers like wool cost more, as they require more care and attention, as well as more drying time. Excessive stains, challenging locations such as stairs, and accessibility also factor into your carpet cleaning price. Companies may charge a minimum service fee for cleaning a small carpet to cover their business expenses (paying employees, transporting the special equipment to your home). If your pet has repeatedly saturated the carpet with urine or if the fibers are extremely matted down, it may make more sense to completely replace your carpet than to continue to have it cleaned.
