We had two movers and the truck, moving to a storage unit 10x20. The unit was full. Both Justin and Justin were excellent.

I'm late in writing a review, but I had to let anyone that's shopping on Thumbtack know that this is a great company. Every contact I had with them - from the initial quote online to the confirmation phone call to the movers on moving day - such wonderful people! I only moved 4 miles, but there was tricky stair climbing at our destination. I was complaining, but they never did. Totally upbeat (even at 7am) and never stopping...I was quite pleased. Do not pass up this company! I've been telling everyone I know and I will definitely use them again in the future. P.S. Please give Mitch and Travis a raise or at least a good bonus!

These guys are the Zappos of moving furniture in and out of a storage container. Even though I made a last-minute request, I was still able to get someone out to help me move stuff. Quick, professional, good customer service on the back end.

I decided to hire Stretch Ur Dollar for my 1-bedroom move based on their quote being much more reasonable than the competition. I was actually a bit nervous that the cheap quote would equal cheap service, but I decided to take the risk and Stretch Ur Dollar proved to be worth every dollar! "Stretch" provided confirmation at multiple points prior to my moving day to let me know that I was on their calendar, and Lee (primary contact/mover) called the morning of to let me know that they were on their way. His communication was very professional and he had a good attitude throughout. In terms of prepping the furniture for the move, Stretch did an excellent job to ensure that everything was thoroughly protected. I was very much at ease throughout the move as they exhibited extreme care throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend Stretch Ur Dollar for your moving needs!

I called Weekend Warrior Moving to help me move out and into a bigger house and they were just outstanding! I was already having a bad day when my girlfriend decided to cheat on me and eventually I had enough of it so I called them to set up a day to come out and help me move. They're absolutely professional and were really positive friendly people and I can defintely use that this time around. They brightened up my day for sure. Also their prices are very reasonable. If I ever have to move again in the near future I will definitely give them a call no doubt. Thanks guys!

Great company. This is our 2nd time using One World Van Lines. Friendly staff, great pricing. Did require a “shuttle service” at delivery, but access to the lot was very tight, so it was understandable and reasonable to work out. Movers were on time and gentle with our belongings. They caught our attention on dings and scratches on furniture that were there before placing them in the moving truck. Wrapped electronics carefully. Very friendly all in all. Will definitely be using them again and referring them to all my friends that are moving.

Excellent service. When you see a worker running from the truck to the apartment in 95 degree heat to save time and give you value, you know you have chosen a great company.

Rebecca was extremely accommodating, as our scheduled movers backed out at the last minute. She returned my call from the weekend early on Monday and had 2 helpers out by 10:45 that morning. The helpers were later than expected, but worked well. They didn't take direction very well, which was frustrating. I ended up moving things from room to room because they weren't listening to where I asked them to place things. Overall, though, they worked hard, were pleasant and patient with my three young kids running around, and were non smokers, so I'm satisfied.

I have now had JD move both my office & home - twice! He also moved one of my friends. What is really good about JD is he shows up on time, ready to work. He is prepared for those little events that arise to derail progress. I will always call JD first whenever I have a need to move. Jim

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
