Jose did a fantastic job refinishing our ceiling and daughter's playroom. He was on time and professional, but he also went above and beyond in terms of the work. He took care of a minor plumbing issue around the wet bar he removed and told me "don't call the plumber, they'll charge you and arm and leg—I'll take care of it." Then he just stubbed the pipes, took care of it and didn't ask for any more money. I paid him a little on top anyways. Because he's a pro and he deserved it. I would hire 100 Joses to remodel and paint my house right now. I'm using other contractors and wishing he did it all. He just does really awesome drywall.

Great people that we felt comfortable leaving alone in our house to work when we ran errands who did a great job and every night ensured the area was cleaned up. We had carpet removed and replaced with tile, one piece fiberglass shower replaced with an onyx shower (included moving pipes), painting and everything else to make it look nice!

Mike was terrific. His quote was fair, his work was done as promised and the results were exactly what we wanted. He called to keep us informed of the schedule and was here when he said he would be. He even took a piece of siding to get it paint matched so everything was perfect. Thanks for a great job well done.

Rondah had her work cut out for her when she agreed to paint a large room with very dark paint a lighter neutral color. She made a great recommendation for the color & did an excellent job repairing the imperfections in the walls. The room feels so warm & comfortable now. I would gladly refer her to anyone.

We hired TMC Contracting to paint our 68-year-old kitchen cabinets. The entire process from getting an estimate to clean up was exceptional. Tim listened to our concerns and made sure we were very satisfied with his work. We would recommend TMC Contracting to anyone who wants a quality project completed by someone who's very professional. We plan to have Tim do other projects in our home. It's apparent that Tim enjoys what he does and strives to help make your vision a reality. Thank you, Tim!

My husband and I hired John to do some painting in our house, actually paint our entire house minus one of our rooms. We were really up in the air about what colors to use and i was pleased that he was very handy about helping with that part. John was very professional and neat and clean, which helped us to be assured that we picked the right painter. Each of our rooms were done with care and the entire house was left almost better than when he started the job. there were a few cosmetic things that needed to be addressed that we were unaware of, and he just did them without any hesitation. Not to mention he did assist me with some vacuuming and scrubbing the outside of the refrigerator which i wanted to pay extra for, and he said no. i would highly recommend him for the job and we will be calling him next spring to do the outside of our house for sure.

We hired GPP to paint the exterior of our home including cedar shake siding and window trim throughout the house. They also replaced and repaired wood rot and fixed or replaced shake siding shingles. We are very happy with the result! Their communication was excellent. They were very clear about what we should expect day to day and were quick to answer all of our questions and concerns along the way. The work crew was very courteous and made sure to complete our project exactly the way we wanted. I would recommend them to our neighbors and anyone else who wants a painting crew to exceed their service expectations and who listen closely to our needs to make sure your projects get done the way you want.

Our first time to hire Jim was to do some drywall repair from some house settling. He did an excellent job in the repair work and the walls look great. We also had him paint the walls afterwards. Painting was done in an excellent manner and Jim was always very tidy and cleaned up his work areas at the end of each day. We also had him give us a quote and then hired him to tear out and replace a full shower in our master bath. This included tearing out old tile, cutting out the old drywall and replacing it with new moisture barrier drywall. He also revamped our plumbing in the shower and then hung new ceramic tile, accent tile and shower doors as well as replacing the shower basin. In addition we had him hang bathroom fixtures and paint that room as well. He was always very thorough in his jobs and was very neat and tidy. We would definitely recommend Jim for any jobs that you would have with drywall, plumbing and painting.

One of the most professional/pleasent people I’ve ever worked with. He went above and beyond what was negotiated and didn’t even charge me when a light fixture he worked on for 30 minutes couldn’t be installed at no fault of his, the fixture just didn’t fit the room. When installing a different fixture for us he overheard my wife talking to me in another room about how crappy the paint brush she just bought from the hardware store was. Two minutes later the guy walked in and handed my wife a Purdy brush and said that he gets a good deal on them and not to worry about paying him back. He also fixed the wiring in one of our fixtures without me asking just because it was the right way to do it. In summary, I posted my job at 11pm we had a verbal agreement by morning and he was done with my job the same day, perfect communication and respect for me and my home. Highly recommended.

To this day we are pleased with the work provided by S&W Construction after our church fire. We get lots of compliments from visitors to this day. After a devastating church fire, S&W renovated and remodeled our church from the floor to the ceiling. The sanctuary ceiling was destroyed by the fire department as they put out the fire so it was very cold for them to work but they worked in the cold winter months non stop. They fixed it so we were able to have church services in the renovated and remodeled lower level while they worked or the two upper levels. They added two restrooms and an office. Restored our sanctuary, balcony, replaced windows and doors, carpeting, painting, new furnaces, new lighting, pews, new choir stand, new pulpit, kitchen and setup and installed appliances, etc. We later hired S&W Construction for sidewalk replacement and driveway reproach replacement. We will hire them again.

These guys were incredible. They worked around my tight schedule and worked long hours to get the job done. I asked if they could paint another area that I realized I didn’t like (bought a new house). I figured we’d just schedule for another day but they knocked it all out! Great guys, great price. I will hire them again.

Wm. Griffith & his crew of professional painters will exceed your expectations. They power wash, caulk all seams & cracks, replace damaged siding or rotted wood, & use quality paint for durability. They keep to a schedule from start to finish & our home looks unbelievably better now than when it was new! If you are looking for quality work, look no farther.

Josh and his team are credited with a SUBSTANTIAL transformation to the appeal of our house! Pretty certain the before/after labels are not necessary in this photo. The entire end-to-end experience working with Josh was superb. He is customer-centric, responsive, professional, fair, and knowledgeable. He cares greatly about quality, taking his time to ensure every step of the painting process is done properly - from pre-paint preparation to final walk-through. If you want to be delighted not only with the final outcome of your paint job, but also throughout the process, hire this local small business over commercial options. Same can be said over the price as well! We had two bids done before C.F. and Josh's bid fell $1,500+ below both. It's rare these days to pay less than competitors for anything, but receive a high quality product. It is truly a no-brainer to hire these guys for your job!

I only rated this company a 4 because I have not had my interior painted! Roman the owner, was very responsive to all my questions and showed up for a measure and quote as planned! He was very professional and took his time with measuring and figuring out the best painting needs for my new home! I will post photos of his work as it gets finished and update my review! I feel comfortable with his skills and cannot wait to see the finished product! Prices are hard to beat! Very reasonable

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
