We hired Crescendo Trio for our wedding this summer. Our original musician had backed out at the last minute and we were in a bind because we had very specific song requests that aren't on the usual repertoire for wedding musicians. So one month before our big day, Karla Nichols took on the challenge of our wedding - purchasing our specific music and learning it in time for our event. We couldn't have been happier with the way they went out of their way (quite literally as our wedding was more than an hour drive for them) to make our big day special.

Deondre was the DJ for our wedding. I would highly recommend him for any wedding, party or event! He kept our guests out on the dance floor the whole evening....literally! We even extended our reception an additional hour because so many of our guests were having such a great time! If you want a good time, I would book Deondre. He even was the DJ for my sisters wedding. Deondre is very easy going, fun and reliable. Which are all important characteristics for a DJ.

Jonathan was the DJ at my wedding. We had about 250 guests, most of whom were under 30-years old. Jonathan had just about everybody dancing nonstop! At one point our photos show at least 80-100 people breaking it down on the dance floor. Jonathan is very professional. He brought all his own equipment, which was more than enough sound-power to rock the 5000 square-foot event space. Jonathan was also very flexible and tasteful in the music he provided. There were classical 1960s love songs, all the way through everyone's favorite current singles, including remixes and Jonathan's own DJ twist. My wife(!) and I are both music lovers and musicians and we were thrilled with every aspect of Jonathan's service. I very highly recommend!

Hard @ Play brings the feeling that an "event" is taking place, not just a band playing. The music they make is very solid, great selections for their sets with a nice balance of high energy and subdued songs along with polished vocals. Some of the best people to work with in all my years booking bands.

Awesome DJ! Great music! Very professional services. The DJ took requests, but honestly played everything we wanted to hear without being asked! Non stop good times. The only thing that would make it more exciting is if there were a live band to split the time and mix it up! Bryce - Satisfied Customer

My daughter decided she wanted to play saxophone at the age of 15. She began learning from John around the start of the spring semester of her freshman year. By that fall, she was good enough to make the high school marching band! We've continued taking lessons from John, and she has continued to progress throughout the year. She is now capable of playing alongside other saxophonists who have been playing since Junior High. John's a professional, and his love of saxophone rubs off on my daughter. I still can't believe she's gotten to the level she's at after such a short time.

Jukeboxx Media is actually a service that will help put together a custom live band, but in our case we found a band that we really liked so they helped us book and work with the entire band. My husband and I loved that Jukeboxx helped us pick a band, pick every song, and work so closely with Jukeboxx and the band. We went to several live shows before choosing the band that was right for us. Chris and Aaron were extremely flexible (especially considering how many times we changed our minds) and also great to work with. We split the entertainment between two hours of DJ and three hours of a live band. After the wedding, everyone told us how great the band did, and how much they loved the DJ. They also set up an incredible lighting scheme that really made our reception look great.

Mallory learned a custom song for our wedding ceremony, and played beautifully. She was on time and professional for both the rehearsal and the big day, and did a wonderful job. I would definitely book her again and would recommend her to anyone seeking a violinist for a party or event.

Tony, Everyone had a great time at the wedding and the dueling pianos were a hit, just like we had hoped for. Many of our guests stayed much longer than they would have normally, which is a testament to the great atmosphere created by everyone involved. You were easy to work with and kept the crowd engaged the entire night. We appreciate you taking the time to learn our favorite songs and adding a personal touch to our event! Many of our friends and family are still talking about the wonderful time they had. Thanks again for making the trip to Andale. You are both very talented and we cannot thank you enough for making our wedding so special." Sincerely, Robert and Anne Tibbetts Andale, KS

Our original date was rained out and Michelle was very understanding and eager to work with us to reschedule. I found her to be very personable and professional from the first introduction on Thumbtack, through the negotiations, the rescheduling and on the day of. She was great at making our guests feel welcome and she and the band performed a wide variety of music! We had a LOT of fun. I HIGHLY recommend Michelle Hawkins for your event!

Josh played at our wedding reception and did an amazing job. Everyone from the guests, the wedding planner and the photographer had something positive to say. The wedding planner said this was the wedding with the most dancing she had ever seen. The photographer said this was the coolest dance party she had ever seen. Actually she said "wildest" but I think she got a little carried away there. We asked Josh to do a short dance lesson at the beginning of the reception, which turned out to be a big hit and got everyone out on the dance floor. From there, he kept the music going all night and our guests danced until it was time to leave. He played the perfect mix for us and our guests. We heard everything from great salsa hits to the YMCA song. We can't wait to renew our vows so we can have Josh DJ that reception too!

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

            What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

            • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
            • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
            • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
