Joshua is a great guy and really helped me out. Would highly recommend him, and anyone can contact me as a reference if needed - Tony at 314-249-0038. Had a general contractor who did a poor job on a restoration of a walk-in closet/vanity area. Found Josh on Thumbtack, who came on short notice and did the following tasks: Bought shelving/brackets for me, identical to what I had, and added a second level of shelving in the closet on either side. Transplanted separate shelving from the closet back wall to another room. Spackled and painted various holes and rough wall areas. Bought wooden quarter-round trim and installed it on the vanity base. Wood-stained a neglected area of the vanity. Removed the entire vanity countertop, cut it to proper size, then re-installed it. Repositioned light fixture and mirror to proper centering. Cut and hammered in a piece of baseboard on that back closet wall, also neglegted by the previous contractor. I feel very lucky that I could find somebody like Josh to get this sorted out for me that quickly.

Book this guy! He and his crew did a fantastic job! Quality painting, polite, and conscientious! He's a young entrepreneur, another reason to book him. The primary reason, though, is that they did a great job and did it quickly!

I had all the boards and railing replaced on my deck, my screen porch repaired/painted and front porch painted. Several hidden issues came up over the course of the project that were handled well. Weather caused delays - welcome to spring time, but the work was well done in as timely a fashion as possible at a fair price.

Our basement got flooded and the remediation company had to cut between one and two feet from the bottom of each drywall. Roman came to our rescue: He replaced the missing drywall, sanded it several times, and painted it. Finally he installed new baseboards that perfectly matched with the rest of the house. The quality of his work is amazing: It really look like nothing happened. I’m truly happy we chose Roman for this project: he is very easy to reach by phone, extremely precise and with attention to details, extremely polite and easy to deal with. In sum, we definitely had a great experience and Roman delivered an outstanding work within the promised timeline.

Steve painted my kitchen cabinets white. They look like brand new cabinets. The quality of his work is superb. He sprayed the frames inside the kitchen with absolutely no over-spray or mess. He did exactly what he said he would do, on time and at a very reasonable price. I would recommend him to everyone in fact we have hired him to do more work, this time on our table and chairs. You won't find a nicer guy and his work is absolutely fabulous.

John and his brother Mario's complete kitchen, and flooring work was the best thing that ever happened to my kitchen. Barrale Brothers Painting and Remodeling, LLC had performed an excellent, high quality work remodeling my kitchen. Flooring as well was outstanding. I am extremely happy with the outcome and have asked John to give me a bid for the main bathroom to be renovated next.

I had read reviews on this company and many reviews were vague and others said they were a construction conpany and the painting wasn’t the highest quality because they don’t specialize in it. Hiring this company was our best decision. After pricing other painters we decided to save the extra $2000+ that another painting company wanted to charge us for exact lines and go with a company that was both quick to begin work and really made a effort to make sure we were satisfied. They were professional and quick. They cleaned up everything and any areas of concern were addressed until we were completely happy. We love the paint work they did and considering it was a large portion of our 2100 sq ft they got it done in a quick time frame. We will use this company again for more things in the future and will recommend to friends.

This was my first time using Thumbtack and I was a little skeptical hiring from online. Within 15 minutes I had 4 bids with different price quotes. I hired Dan after a few communications about my project. He stood out from the others with his knowledge and helpful personal recommendations on staining my deck. He said it would take 3 days with the power-washing, cleaning and painting. He arrived on time each morning with a smile and worked in the 100 degree heat each day. The deck looks amazing! I would hire Dan again if I have other projects in the future. I have already gave his name out to my friends. 2 Thumbs up!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
