My daughter has been working with Todd for about 2 years now. At first I was a little skeptical due to different cultures and backgrounds with our family, I did not know if my daughter would take to Tood, But she did immediately he was able to connect with her. Todd was very accommodating from the start. I was looking for a Math tutor that could definitely be very patient and get through to my introvert daughter. Todd was all I expected and more. Todd not only is patient with my daughter but he uses different tools and materials to assist in the tutoring. He also uses stories to help my daughter relate to real life circumstances. He even goes even further by showing special interest in her personally and her social activities and school. He is just so amazing his natural ability to reach her is remarkable. He has been so thoughtful to bring her special gifts that are associated to her special interest and he also brings her writing and math gifts as well...It is endless. Todd also communicates with me very well in making sure to involve me in the tutoring process by giving me a recap on what was learned and how she did and what she needs to work on. He has been very flexible with meeting our schedule needs and always communicates very effective prior to and after each session...It is just very rare to find a tutor that can be so good and consistent. The first year my daughter started working with Todd she went from falling behind in school to ending on the Principles Honors Roll. Carla Very Happy Parent I

Steve Sanborn is a gifted writer. He can take a complicated, technical subject and bring clarity to the reader in a way that few can do. My contact with Steve was through LifeFlight Eagle (LFE) and also the Missouri Emergency Medical Services Association (MEMSA). In both organizations he created original content for membership promotion as well as other informational documents. And in both organizations, he produced newsletters that were widely distributed. His writing style was engaging and informative. Deadlines were met and a quality product was produced. I have no hesitancy in endorsing Steve as a talented, skillful writer. I can assure others, you will not be disappointed if he writes for you.

I find writing a resume is not fun. I am the type of person that has difficulty selling my skill set to others on paper. About 4 years ago, I discovered resume writing services were "a thing" and if I went through the killer deal site, Groupon, I could utilize this service for as low as $40.00. I answered some questions on a survey and sent my job history to an email address. The end product was delivered and I was happy with it at the time. But I was employed and was not actively seeking employment. As time went on, I myself would update my resume. Now four years later I am back job hunting. For three months, I have been applying through job boards, employer websites, attending job fairs and I just wasn't getting any bites so I knew I needed help. That's where Michele and Associates came in. Some of the key things that made it such a great experience- · The Turnaround- After I initially spoke with Michele on the phone, I sent her my resume to review. Literally, the next day we were on the phone discussing revisions. · The Product- My resume looks awesome! Michele has a gift. I would have never been able to come up with a list of accomplishments, and placing them at the top of a resume makes so much sense…I would never have thought of that! And the table format…it really makes it stand out! · The Consultation- My previous experience was all done through email. The gentleman I worked with was in CA and made no effort to get to know me. We had only two email exchanges until I received the end product. From the get go, Michele was very professional, knowledgeable, polite and personable. We spent over 30 minutes on our initial phone call and nearly 60 minutes going over the resume after she made revisions. She genuinely made an effort to get to know me and wanted to make sure I understood the revisions that she made. I am 100% completely satisfied. I have posted my new resume to indeed.com and updated my Linkin.com profile. I have not been offered a job yet, but have had 3 recruiters reach out to me based off of my new resume in less than two weeks!

I read voraciously. I write sporadically. I obsess over grammar and syntax. I read with keen, critical eyes. I edit copy for fun. I do the dirty work so that my client makes a stellar (subconscious) first impression. This is my first attempt at writing and editing professionally. (I work as an attorney to pay the bills.) Thus, my rates will be flat and cheap at the outset. Thanks for your consideration. BL

I fluently speak and write English and French. I excellently write/edit in both languages, translate English to French and vice versa, orally and in writing. Since I work from home, I prefer working with my clients via telephone, email, and Skype. And if we have to meet in person, for let say a first meet and greet, I typically suggest meeting at a public place of your choice, and then go from there. With writing, editing and written translation, I charge per page, and it runs up to $5-$20, depending on how critical and demanding the project is. With oral translation, I charge $35/hour and $45/hour for algebra tutoring.

About

Writing is my passion! I love all types of writing. Assisting businesses and people with my skills as a wordsmith combines two of my favorites: helping people solve a problem and writing. The ability to communicate well is essential to any profession. Writing well and succinctly is a true gift. It's a gift I honed well while in broadcast journalism and outdoor advertising. These are two mediums where time and space are limited and priced at a premium. As a journalist, I would spend the entire day researching, interviewing and gathering information on a few topics. Then I would have to condense everything I had learned into a 30-second to 90-second story. Getting it right was essential as there were millions of viewers who could quickly vote with their remote that my story wasn't interesting. Getting the facts correct was equally as important because those same million viewers could instantly discredit me by revealing inaccuracies in my story. Do we all know Brian Williams? In outdoor advertising, yes billboards, you have even less time to capture someone's attention, about 10 seconds. Usually the people you are trying to reach with your message are moving at a high rate of speed and have lots of other distractions. I once helped a gentleman in Louisiana propose to his girlfriend on a billboard. I was so excited to help him and impressed with his creative proposal. Unfortunately, the message was so eye-catching that a child of his fiance's best friend saw it as our team was placing the billboard panels. My client's plan was to drive her past the billboard, but she received a phone call from the friend before he had a chance. The story ends with a happily married couple, just not the proposal he had planned --so not all bad. Most of my career has been writing brochures, web copy, compelling emails, case studies, invitations, company descriptions, pleas for funding or volunteers for a cause and much more. I have the unique ability to put myself in someone else's spot and determine how to not just capture his/her attention but to act on that emotion. I ask myself: What would make me visit this company? What would make me donate to this cause? What would make me respond to this email? As my husband likes to say, I have the gift of gab, referring to me as the "perfect talking machine" -- which is ideal when you need someone to write conversationally or naturally. This style of writing isn't a turn-off because you don't feel like you are being "sold" something. My talents lie in my ability to tell stories. Convincing people to use your company, product or service is often telling them the story behind why you are in business and how you have helped other clients. Overloading prospective clients with facts and features is necessary at the right time, but initially you have to get them interested in how you can help them achieve their goals. This usually happens because you tell them a good story. Let me tell your story for you. I promise to impress! Thanks for your time and attention. Have a great remainder of your day!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

  • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
  • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
  • Expertise in your target area.
  • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

  • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
  • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
  • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
