For the time allowed Karma showed definite improvement & improved command listening. His walk by side and other commands in Germsn have given him a great foundation to have me continue his training. After seversl months and Ksrma reaching 1 years maturity, I may take him back for additional advanced traing. I was very pleased with owners/trainers. Kudos. Terry TessonSep 20, 2016Verified
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have nine certifications in the field of Animal Behavior and one that pertains to pet nutrition and diet, because I believe the whole dog should be treated and behavior and poor nutrition are often linked: Animal Behavior College: General Studies (dog training, learning theory etc) Animal Behavior College: Training Shelter Dogs Animal Behavior College: Pet Diet and Nutrition Humane Society Of The United States: Dog Bite Prevention For Law Enforcement And Other First Responders Humane Society Of The United States: Interpreting Animal Behavior For Safe Handling (dogs & cats) Leerburg University: Teaching Engagement Skills (gaining our dogs undivided attention) Dr. Sophia Yin: Training Your Reactive or Hyperactive Dog Susan Garrett: Recallers, a program for the most reliable recall (coming when called) Susan Garrett: Handling 360, a program to help you become the best agility handler. Absolute Dogs: Naughty But Nice, a program for dogs with reactivity, shyness, destructive behaviors and in general are naughty. Absolute Dogs: 10 Steps to loose leash walking. I compete in K-9 Sports with my own dogs and still attend seminars/webinars to keep up to date with the science of dog training.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I went to veterinary assistant school and while their I learned basic obedience for dogs. I took what I learned and went to work at an animal shelter. I was there for 4 years. I trained and was able to re-home many dogs, but I also euthanized many. Nothing was harder than signing a dog in and the reason was because the dog wasn't house trained, didn't like the cat, had separation anxiety or any other number of problems, all fixable, if someone just taken the time. I decided I would rather help families keep their pets rather than try to find them a home later.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project? Before contacting a professional ask yourself: How much time do you have to commit to training? What is your budget? How many people will be participating in the training (kids, spouse, roommates etc)? Is everyone committed to the training? What are your training goals? What type of training are you willing to do (correctional devices, using food etc)?
