I hire them to remove some debris after a remodel. He showed up as agreed and was very polite and courteous. I will hire them to do a landscaping project and would recommend them to friends and family.

Aaron was very knowledgeable about what would work best for my steep hill, where I needed some kind of steps and some additional terracing. I felt confident that he would do the best job on my landscape project. The crew that worked on my job worked hard and were very pleasant to work with. As in any quoted job, just make sure that everything you want done is in the quote. Aaron handled my few concerns very professionally with my needs in mind. I am very happy with the end project. The deer eat pretty much everything in sight here, so I did not have him do any planting and I asked for the rock fill along both sides of my steps for low maintenance. See attached pictures.

This company ran by a 21 year man is one of the best landscaping companies I’ve ever worked with, SERIOUSLY! I don’t have sell this to anyone, all you have to do is call Casden, (owner) and see for yourself! This kid and his crew are no joke! If he says it he does it, without fail and the guys that work for him, well, they’re the best! Thanks again Casden; Zack was right, you are good, real good! The wife LOVES IT! Sorry for no pictures, it was late and dark.

Our subdivision was looking for an economical solution for watering entrance monument plantings at its entrance. Daniel responded to my request promptly, probed to understand existing system details, and confirmed he could do the work within 5 days. Despite rainy weather all this week, he honored his commitment to get the work completed within the timeframe. In addition to adding a head, he fixed two other poorly performing heads in timely fashion. He was professional, personable, fairly priced and aimed to please. Having worked with other companies in this space, I feel Daniel's communication & reliability set him apart from the pack!

Craig and Kurt did an awesome job on my landscape project. They created a beautiful accent point, planted trees, flowers and bushes, mulched everything and even placed a 1,000lb rock in my yard. Kurt even took care of a couple existing trees without additional costs. Love everything. Hire this team - you can't go wrong.

I had a wonderful experience with Kathy Selz. Hired her and her team to do a landscape project and to remove a tree and plant a new one. They were very professional, friendly and knowledgable. They offered me suggestions that were really helpful. The project was done timely and looked immaculate when they were done. It is very refreshing to hire someone to actually do exactly what you hired them to to and get it done on time. I will call them for all my outdoor landscape needs!

Harold and his crew did an awesome job landscaping our property. We were selling our house and needed to make it pop with curb appeal and in the backyard. They responded quickly on short notice and did an AWESOME job, with plants, finishing the blockson a flower bed, finishing a brick path, leveling an area that gets muddy from rain and rocking that area. Friendly, courteous, EXCELLENT ideas, prompt. If you choose any other landscaper you aren’t doing yourself justice. Call Harold and you will not be disappointed

We had 1 tree removed and 1 tree trimmed at our residence. The Envirogreen staff from start to finish was very helpful, informative and professional. The tree crew did an amazing job with our older large tree we had removed next to our home and power lines. We would recommend this company to anyone looking for tree service or even landscape work. We couldn't be more happy with our experience with Envirogreen.

Alfredo was very responsive, squeezing us into his crew's weekend schedule on short notice to mow the lawn at the house we recently purchased and now occupy. He kept us informed of his arrival time, and his crew worked very quickly and efficiently as a team including trimming and blowing the trimmings. We would hire Rios Landscaping again for residential lawn mowing.

Shoscapes Landscaping is by far the best around. We got bids from other companies but not one compared to the price and quality of Shoscapes. The workers were extremely kind and on time. We couldn’t be happier!

Jonathan did a great job helping me clean up my landscaping at my condo and planting new plants. I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted, and he gave some great suggestions for plants for me. He was on time, very responsive to messages, and a super hard worker!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.
