Explained things in a way that I could understand them; energetic and laid back environment; willing to take extra time to figure out the best approach to my needs; I could tell that this practice is in the business to help people and because they care and it's not just about the money and sales pitch.

Dr. Vanderbilt Hoek was professional, thorough and alleviated my lower back pain! Not only did he listen to my history and pinpoint my problem, but explained the physiology of this chronic issue. He called to check on my status later in the day, as well! I will happily continue therapy here. This is after having trigger point injections, PT, an MRI and other evaluations. Thank you! Dr. Steve is an attentive listener and very knowledgeable. He is helping me with an ancient case of Bell's Palsey (21 years ago) and pain from an old accident (10 years ago) with great success. I have never been so consistently pain-free and comfortable since the accident. Dr. Steve has gone above and beyond and has helped me balance out things I did not even know were wrong with me - I understand now that my body could react more favorably, because it is. Sometimes our sessions run a little long, spending about 60 minutes instead of 45, but I have never waited more than a few minutes to be seen at my appointed time. I have had greater results than I expected due to Dr. Steve's care and I will keep going back until I feel like all my problems have been properly addressed. I will never regret choosing Dr. Steve for my acupuncture adventure because he has improved my quality of life immensely in just two weeks.

Dr. Steve is the best chiropractor I've ever had. He has a big picture approach to your overall health and the knowledge to help with every health concern I've ever brought up to him. I can not recommend him enough if you are sick of playing symptom whack a mole like I was.

I couldn't be happier with my experience with Steven Vanden Hoek. Everyone in the office is very friendly and professional. They went above and beyond - spending a considerable amount of time helping me with my medical issues. Very reasonably priced, as well.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We usually charge between $39-$49 depending on length of the visit and types of modalities used.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A general consultation of the reason they came to the office. Then we tend to perform an exam consisting of Meridian Palpation, Pulse Diagnosis, Orthopedic & Neurologic Exam. If the patient is a candidate, a trial treatment will be provided.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am first and foremost trained and licensed as a Doctor of Chiropractic, which gives me a unique understanding of how the body works as a whole. I am also certified by my board for acupuncture and physiotherapy. I am a Fellow with the American Society of Acupuncture, and I have been providing meridian therapy and acupuncture since 2002 - with thousands of successful treatments.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
One of my professors in School was a master acupuncturist. The technique and success impressed and fascinated me. While in school I learned all I could about acupuncture and naturopathic medicine from my instructor, and even interned in his office. Upon graduation as a Chiropractor - I completed my acupuncture training and began blending the two therapies together for amazing results.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I generally work with people dealing with pain, limitation of movement, and muscle tension. From back and neck, to shoulder problems (I love treating shoulder problems), to plantar fasciitis and carpal tunnel.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We recently treated a patient with a Rotator Cuff injury. After months of physical therapy, they just weren't getting better. Within 3 weeks we had 80% of her range of motion back, and by the end of 2 months - she was pain free and 90% of her original movement. Almost 4 months later she returned - still doing great in the shoulder - but now for another issue.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Experience is key.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous and vascular system to either increase or decrease a reaction to the area. This reaction can decrease pain reception, increase blood flow, and stimulate healing to the area - which is usually great. If your condition has a mechanical quality to it - bone spurs, short leg, surgical repair - the treatments may help, but will often require regular maintenance. Know that some things can be treated and release, while others may need ongoing care, is important when considering true cost of long term care.
