Hire them! I have had more bad experiences than I would like to admit with contractors not finishing what they start, or even starting at all. This has been the BEST experience I have had-ever! No complaints so far, still have a growing list I want them to complete but I have no doubt the list will get done. They work quick and work around my schedule. Communication, which is super important to me, has been wonderful along with the quality of work. I could go on and on, just hire them if you want a stress free experience. You will not regret it. So glad I found them. I swear I am not related to them, just a very happy customer.

I put in porcelain 12 x 24. I had all the old floors removed instead of laying over the top. I am one of those people I expect a job to be done correct and have no issues saying something until it's correct or going back on the owner. I had the kitchen, entry way, 3 bathrooms and laundry room changed to porcelain, then once that was complete, it was such a great job and looked so nice, I decided to go ahead and turn the living room into porcelain, put down an area rug and put porcelain at the top of the stairs. I am extremely pleased. H.P. Hip Remodeling very reliable, professional and very good at their craft. Very competitive pricing compared to all the other contractors who wanted to do the work and will definitely use again. Very pleasant to work with and they didn't try to gouge in anyway. Judge yourself from the pictures.

While I did not ultimately use for our project, this contractor was first to respond, came the same day to estimate project, and had very competitive pricing. Very professional!

Hiring someone to do work that you are not knowledgeable about is a daunting proposition as it leaves open the opportunity for being taken advantage of. In our case, that opportunity was wide open as we were concerned about the safety of our wiring. There are some unscrupulous contractors who would have taken full advantage of that, recommending unnecessary and expensive work, and we would have had no idea. That's a vulnerable position for a consumer, and finding someone trustworthy is invaluable. Tom was amazing. He calmed our fears and reassured us that what he saw, while a little unorthodox, was not dangerous. We had him return the following week to do some work we'd been putting off. He was professional, friendly, and helpful; and his work was top-notch. If we ever find ourselves in need of an electrician, I know who we'll call first, and I'd recommend him to anyone who asks.

Rollie and his crew did an outstanding job with building my garage. They were professional, punctual and took care in making sure everything was perfect. They even worked on Sundays which was a surprise to me. Not many contractors would do that to get the job done. There some delays due to the weather but as soon as it cleared up, they were back on the job working. I would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family or to call on him for any other job that I need done. Excellent work!

Tom is a qualified professional. He is dependable, cost conscience and has the experience to advise on any size job. A large portion of his work comes via referrals. He defers to customers preference of bidding work by the hour or a defined project. Over the last few years, Tom has performed painting chores, electrical, plumbing and construction jobs on time and within budget. He never leaves a job without a thorough cleanup. Highly recommend.

I hired another contractor to do the job. The work he did was not well done. I Contacted B&C Contracting to see if he could correct the job. I am absolutely satisfied with the way it was completed and very satisfied with B&C for doing the job with such short notice.

On time. Efficient and quality work. Very fair price. I work with a number of contractors. Brad, by far, performed some of the best quality work and a fair price of the numerous contractors that I have done business with.

Dave Ketcherside, owner Remodeling Solution, Inc. personally managed our insurance claim for roof, chimney, and interior repairs. Very satisfied with the work, and Dave definitely saved us some bucks and got us some extras. The experts in roofing, chimney, and interior repair all knew their stuff, and were good to work with. Having Dave manage the project made a huge difference. Kept us in the loop and relieved our worries. He was the key to making things come together to complete the project. We highly recommend Dave's company. Doug Harju Imperial, MO

Contractor was great to work with. Completed and coordinated both large and small projects in our older home (both inside and outside). Older homes present their own set of unique challenges and he was more than capable and successful at completing the rehab projects we needed done. Reliable and honest. Maintained good communication throughout projects, listened to worked within discussed budgets. Would highly recommend and look forward to using again soon for the next wave of home improvements.

Kent and his crew did amazing work. He built me a bi-level deck from my house to my pool. Me was able to build me a fantastic deck. I had imagined the deck and what I have is 10 times better. The craftsmanship is way better then I could have asked for. He worked with me on every detail. He is a wonderful contractor and now a good friend.

Despite our efforts to find a new home that was, "move in ready" the competitive home market and limited number of properties, lead us to consider buying a fixer upper and then hiring a contractor to make it "move in ready." I am an extremely anxious person and buying a new home is a very stressful situation on its own. Finding a contractor on top of everything else, was something that we had a lot of concerns about. From the start, Trinity Contracting (Tad), was very accommodating and provided us with a free estimate. During our first meeting it was apparent that he understood what we were trying to do and already had made some great recommendations. Once we decided to work with Trinity, things moved quickly and demo seemed to fly by. The scope of work was pretty large with 2 full bathroom demos, 1 main wall demo, 2 half wall demos, and complete demo of all the flooring except the bedrooms. Tad provided an aggressive timeline of 6-8 weeks for project completion and many others told me to expect double the time a contractor states. Not the case with Tad, work was almost completely done by week 8 with the exception of some minor finishing touches and we were able to move into the home on schedule. Tad was very involved during the process and took us shopping to pick out tile, wood flooring, bathroom fixture, etc. He was able to help us tremendously with pricing and also did a great job of mediating between my wife and I when we were split on a decision. Tad was also helpful about keeping our budget in mind and made sure that we did not go over on anything unless we wanted to. If there was a decision to be made which would cost more, Tad was there to discuss what things could wait and which would make more sense to do now. Tad and his wife, Shell, were very flexible at every step in the process and went out of their way to make things as easy as possible when we needed to meet. The project come out beautifully and Tad really stepped up in the end to make sure we had everything that was agreed upon despite a error made by a supplier. This really made me confident in Trinity, Tad, and his wife Shell as business and I look forward to working with them if we are lucky enough to finish our kitchen and/or basement in the future. I have already referred a couple of others to Trinity who were looking for contractors and would continue to do so if asked for a reference.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

    What do general contractors charge?

If you’re doing a home remodel, building a new home or embarking on a commercial building project, you’ll hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to oversee and execute construction projects. Each construction project is unique; even two duplicate homes built on lots next door to each other could have different construction costs due to factors like different excavation costs when building the foundation. Since each project is unique, many general contractors make bids on potential construction projects. These bids can then break down to a per square foot cost that encompasses the labor of all the workers needed for the job, materials, the scope of work, and any equipment needed. Materials and finishes make a major difference in your cost per square foot. For example, choosing standard kitchen tiles at $3 per square foot will result in a lower total project cost than imported marble tiles that cost $63 per square foot. Where you live will also affect how much general contractors charge, as labor and the cost to do business can cost less in many regions than in high-cost areas like New York or San Francisco. Here are some examples of average costs general contractors typically charge in various regions:

    • Home addition in San Francisco: $250-$270 per square foot.
    • New home construction in Knoxville, Tennessee: $100-$200 per square foot.
    • Kitchen remodel in Tennessee: $40-$80 per square foot, depending on finishes.
    • Bathroom remodel in Vancouver, Washington: $110-$170 per square foot.
