Dear Hart Photography did our wedding in 2011 on a snowy day and the pictures turned out amazing! He also did our guest book with our engagement pictures that now sits on our coffee table. We also asked them to do our family pictures for our son's one year birthday and they turned out incredible. We highly recommend them for the quality, experience, and the price!

Cris is exceptional in every category listed above. He did a wonderful job with the ceremony for our wedding. He was courteous, professional and very prompt at returning all messages including the one I sent the day before our wedding at 11:30p.m. He was very easy going and after our first meeting I knew that I had made the right choice in selecting him as our officiant for our ceremony. He guided us through everything from beginning to end and I had a certified marriage certificate waiting in my mail box when I returned from my honeymoon. He listened to what we wanted and didn't want in a ceremony and was willing to change anything and everything that I did not feel quite right about. I can't reiterate enough how often he made sure everything was what we wanted from how he was dressed, whether we wanted him at the rehearsal to the choices of readings and vows. We were completely satisfied with Cris and would highly recommend him to anyone we know that is getting married.

Lily Pad catered by parents' 70th Wedding Anniversary party which had 40 guests. The food was excellent, everything from the appetizers to the main course. Many people asked me who the caterer was. There was plenty of food (which I always worry about), even a few leftovers which we enjoyed the next day. The event was held at a log cabin, and Dana worked well even in the cramped kitchen. During the process he was always prompt & helpful when answering my calls. I would surely recommend Dana to cater your event. Thanks Dana, for making my parents' party something special.

Lainie was great! After seeing her work and prices, I knew she was right for me. I didn't want crazy over the top makeup because I don't wear a lot of makeup to begin with. She did an awesome job of making me look glamorous but still natural. Most of my bridal party had their hair and makeup done as well and everyone was very pleased with the work. Her prices were very reasonable including her travel fee since my wedding was 75 miles from St. Louis. I would recommend Lainie to anyone looking for hair and makeup for their big day!

We were blessed to find such a wonderful videographer and I can't say enough good things about The Film Perspective! They were absolutely wonderful to work with and I highly recommend them! I came across The Film Perspective while looking for a photo booth and instantly fell in love with their work. I watched every video they had and knew I wanted one of our wedding so I booked them for both! It is clear that The Film Perspective is true to their word and prides themselves at providing customers with high quality films that are breathtaking, beautiful, fun and they are amazingly affordable. They definitely lived up to their promise to create a video that we will cherish for the rest of our lives and so quickly! They had the photo booth pictures uploaded the next day and the video completed with the link sent to me in a couple of days! They were wonderful and helped me surprise my brand new husband with my gift of his favorite band playing at the reception. I knew I wanted to capture the look on his face when he realized who was announcing us as we came into the reception! It took some work to be able to keep such a big surprise a secret but they were excited to be a part of it all! They also did a wonderful job of picking out a first look location and setting it all up for us so we could capture that special moment. Our guests clearly had a blast with the photo booth and I absolutely love the photo strip template Aaron designed for it! It fit our theme perfectly. I am thankful that I found such great people to share our big day with.

I needed makeup for my wedding at the last minute. I was originally going to go to a salesperson at a nearby mall, but after trying a few out I discovered the ones available were duds. I was also super concerned about the cost of a free lance professional makeup artist, which is why I avoided it at first. Jessica was not only extremely affordable, but she was professional, fast, flexible, personable, and very in tune to what I wanted. I told her I wanted dark and dramatic, she told me I shouldn't with my dress. I went home to my dress after the trial, and saw immediately she was right! Let her suggest what you need! She also takes part in face/body paint, drag makeup, celebrity magazine shoots, hair design, clothing design...she is limitless! I highly recommend her to anyone looking for event makeup.

DJ Greg was so awesome. He was extremely punctual, professional, and knowledgeable of all music types. DJ Greg had great equipment, lighting/sound/fog machine. I would recommend him to all for any type of event. Also, the comedian who performed our wedding also made mention that he had hired DJ Greg in the past, and reported how wonderful he and his wife thought DJ Greg was. We will be hiring him in the future for all of our events!!

Steve made the chaos of our wedding look downright glamorous! From the staged shots of our families and wedding party (I wish I had a pic of him standing on top of the wedding band's van outside the venue to get the whole lot of us in the shot! He even waited until I was done ugly laughing. A true gentleman.), to the ceremony, to the entertainment and dancing, Steve achieved what I thought was impossible - making us and our friends look elegant, even while covered in tattoos, chugging beer, and racing from photo location to photo location on a school bus with murals of David Bowie painted on the side. As an aside, Steve manged to get a bunch of pictures of a dear friend on what turned out to be the last time we saw him. AND, he captured him ding what he loved best: Dancing up a storm! I'll forever be grateful for his intuition to get plenty of photos of that unknown-to-him crazy mofo doing the running man! You'll have no problem Kissing Twice, by the way. He'll tell you to do it because he needs to get just the right angle on one of the most memorable parts of the day, but he'll make you feel so comfortable that you won't mind getting that second kiss in. And, don't worry, he'll get all of the memorable moments that you're sure to forget in the midst of all of your chaos, too.

We had such an amazing experience working with Jordan. We hired him to capture one of the most important days of our lives, our wedding day. He was super easy to work with and very professional. He listened to what ideas we had and turned them into a reality. Jordan was talented, personable, prompt and very knowledgeable. He made our wedding memories into a video we can share with future generations and treasure forever. I am so happy with the results and highly recommend Jordan!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
