We are very pleased with our choice of Frank to do the job of putting together and installing our IKEA kitchen. Anyone who has put together IKEA furniture before knows it's quite a task! He is a family-owned business and works wonderfully with his son and wife. It was a pleasure getting to know them, all while watching our kitchen come together! Frank is thorough and precise about his decisions, always making sure we were happy. He saved us a good chunk of money, costing significantly less than the cost of the IKEA installers, while still doing a professional job. Best of all, we created a friendship with him and his family. They were so sweet to our 5 & 2 year old sons and were beyond trustworthy. Sometimes when you hire someone to do work in your home that requires a few days to accomplish, you can't wait to just have it done and have 'strangers' out of your house. I can honestly say that it was hard to say goodbye to him and his family when the job was done. Thank you Frank! We would do it all over again if we had to. We will add photos of the finished kitchen when our backsplash is done later this week!

We had some water damage recently. We were very pleased with the job Lee and Brian did at our home. They repaired a hole in the ceiling that was damaged from water, repainted the ceiling and installed new tile in a bathroom. They also installed new tile in a small area in our basement. They were polite, friendly, and cleaned up after themselves. The quote Jon gave us was very reasonable. We will be using their services again, for sure!

We hired Radalfo to remove our bathroom tile and install new tile. They didn't bring trash cans to dispose of the old tile so they had to use my trash can. This could be an issue if there was a bigger tile job and if you didn't have proper disposal yourself. They didn't bring paper to lay down on the floor to prevent tracking until about half way through the job. Radalfo didn't get to remove the haze that was on top of the tile so I had to do it the next day. The work itself was really good and I was happy with the price and final product.

We hired Rent Ready Experts to completely gut our main bathroom that contained a wooden window sill in the shower. Luke, Marty, and Carlos were professional, polite, easy to work with, and great with keeping us updated on each day's progress and upcoming plans. They replaced the window in the shower, added a new vent fan and light kit requiring a double switch plate, moved existing lighting, removed wall tile from the entire bathroom, inserted a new tub, vanity, all new fixtures, tiled floors and entire shower surround from tub to ceiling, and installed frameless shower doors. Their timeline and price were wonderful. We were more than happy with our new bathroom and will definitely hire them again for future work!

Wow, a contractor that shows up when he says he will and does excellent work. Carl installed tile landings in front of all my entry ways, replaced light fixtures, and installed a backsplash. Excellent job. Will have him install my flooring and eventually finish my master bath. I highly recommend him.

A rough start to project with getting funds transferred, (I recommend using cash to not cause any delays). Also material list was pretty vague if you don’t know exactly what you need to do the job. One started project went really fast. Craftsmanship is very good, all details were done and no shortcuts taken. Anthony did my entire walk in shower and bathroom floor including demo in a matter of 4-5 days. I do recommend if you need plumbing stuff done plan in advance as I had to get water lines changed ASAP so project could continue a half hour job cost me $400, this could have been avoided. Things did get quite messy but everything was cleaned up inside- trash was left so keep that in mind as others do include the haul away of demo materials.

Abi did an exceptional job installing the tile for my kitchen and morning room. I also hired him to paint the majority of my home. He was very helpful in tile and paint choices and went out of his way to ensure I was happy with the choices before completing the job. I highly recommend his services.

Bryan did a beautiful job moving the bathtub and completing my shower tile where another contractor had left me in the lurch with shoddy work. Bryan also discovered and repaired a badly leaking drain that several others had missed. He even worked through the weekend because he knew I had been without a useable shower for quite some time. Thanks Bryan!

Completely transformed our living space. They were professional and even did extra things including installing toilets even though not part of contract. Plan to use them again for future projects. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.
