I have done two projects with Gene Batten. The first time we worked together I was looking to replicate molding around the interior doors of my house in Manhattan. The molding was a complex design, inlaid and such, and Gene was the only one who could come up with a cost effective solution. Everyone else wanted thousands for about 30 feet of molding which they said had to be cut/carved/shaped/coddled in about 18 different directions, but Gene has some miraculous machine which simply carved the molding out of one solid block of wood. No inlays, no muss, no fuss! He did several runs till he got it exactly right, and the end result is absolutely perfect. I think it's pictured on his website, but even that doesnt reflect how lovely it looks installed, all stained and finished. A great job. The second was an "L" shaped bar top for our kitchen. It had to fit in a corner, kind of, on an existing half wall, so measurements were important. Gene very patiently worked up several drawings, and painstakingly went over it with me for weeks. Since I'm in NYC and he's in North Carolina, we didnt want to mess up; a quarter/half inch here and there is quite critical! The end result is another lovely piece of work. An expertly crafted black walnut counter top which greatly enhances the look of the place. I really cant say enough good things about Mr. Batten. Two projects, two home runs, a lovely chap to deal with, and a first class product at a very fair price. I think that about covers it ;-) Gavin Spencer NYC

Gene and his crew built a large wooden cross for camp Agape. It is a beautiful piece of art work and we are thankful for his help in design, and installation. He and his crew have been more than gracious in helping us complete our vision for the Cross in our Lakeside Chapel.

terrible. said he would do the job, we gave him measurements, then he said he couldn't do it. Although we had exchanged no money, I still felt that this was a terrible way to do business; it left my business in a bad place.
Batten Products, Inc.'s reply
I told Walker that I could make the type of signs he wanted and we were discussing various designs and options. I never committed to his project. We never got to the point of finalizing designs or me giving him a price or exchanging money. As we were discussing options and layouts, business issues that are beyond my control came up and they are preventing me from making the signs in a timely manner. Rather than accept his money and then put him off for several months, or rush through the project and do poor quality work, I told him it would be best if I do not take his project at this time. I did what I thought was best for all involved and I will do the same again in a similar situation. Read my reviews from actual customers and form your own opinion.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

    1. Be as clear and specific as possible about what you want to accomplish. The more you tell me, the better I can help. Show pictures or examples if possible. 2. Ask questions. Get to know your provider and help me get to know you. 3. Define a "must not exceed" price or project budget.
