Alex and his team were excellent in every way. His quote was fair and he stuck to it. The work (fence install and gutter cleaning) is quality and was completed timely. He and his team were also very professional. Alex himself is very personable and flexible, but his entire team impressed me. They worked quietly, diligently and never left a mess. I have to say this was the best contractor experience I've had. I would definitely use him again.

I cannot say enough good thing about this man and the quality of his work. I have had so many contractors in the past who just want to take your money but do a half baked job. Brian is clean and courteous and really knows his stuff. The tile back splash job he did for me would stand up to any that you'd find in million dollar homes. Brian is a keeper.

If you have any roofing needs whatsoever you have to go with Singleton, if there were 10 stars that's what they would get. Excellent customer service, talked to them yesterday, job is complete by lunch today. That type customer service doesn't exist anymore, but Singleton provided just that. Please don't make a mistake and use any other company for your roofing needs.

David Hicks did an amazing job on a mega huge leaf and brush removal.(three trips to the dump huge) He went out of his way to go above and beyond what was asked, and actually did more work then was asked of him. I have hired numerous contractors over the past 15 years as a homeowner and this guys is one of the best. He will be saved in my contacts for future jobs because he is professional, honest and hardworking.

I was told by Lowes and buy the other installer. That I would have to replace one of my doors yet when McHugh construction came out he was able to just re-hang it and I didn’t have to pay to buy a new door plus installation fees very honest.

Most houses in my neighborhood had a lot of roof damage due to hail. There were several roofing companies going door to door soliciting business but all seemed to be very shady. I got in touch with Steven Creed and he not only beat their prices, but the work performed by his crew was done in a professional manner and any questions I had were answered immediately and followed up on...one side note, just to show how respectable Steven's crew was, the pitch on my roof is very steep and a bundle of shingles slid off and damaged the grill on my back deck. Without any hesitation I was called at work & informed about what happened and by the end of the week my grill was replaced with a new one. They will stand by their work and go above and beyond for customer satisfaction. Steven proved this himself by coming out to look at a concern I had, 2 years later, that ended up being a plumbing leak in the attic..which he found, and I was able to get a plumber out ASAP. I can't imagine anyone else going to such lengths to help a customer after knowing their work was NOT faulty. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone!!!

Ryan was very professional and thorough from start to finish of a recent roofing job. It became clear very quickly that Ryan knew what he was doing and was focused on top quality and friendly service. Ryan was also quick on his feet as our job had a couple small twists that needed a custom solution. I will certainly be calling Ryan again in the future. I highly recommend.

Being a repeat customer says it all. When we wanted to put a Trellis/Pergola on an existing deck the first person I called was Tovar Construction. Troy constructed the original deck and we worked with him to add the Trellis/Pergola to the deck and architecturally blend it in so it does not look like an afterthought. Troy hit this one out of the park! I was blown away by the detail of their exceptional craftsmanship. Not only that, but they started when they said they would start and finished when they said they would finish. They cleaned up before they left. Troy’s prices may be slightly higher than the 2 guys in a white unmarked van but you will not get the top-notch quality and detail you get from Tovar Construction. Just like anything in life, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend Tovar Construction Inc.

Tommy Fincher and his crew have done several remodeling jobs and built a hot tub deck at our home. His crew has also performed quality roofing and commercial construction work for another property for us as well. His high standards, premium construction materials, and attention to detail exceeded our expectation for each job. I would highly recommend this contractor for residential and commercial work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
