Daniel repaired the flooring and railing on my deck. He arrived on time and finished the job quickly. He met me after the work and walked me through everything that he did. I would use Daniel's services again and would definitely recommend him to others.

They reflashed two chimneys that another company completely screwed up. After removing flashing, there was other unanticipated damage to roof that the other contractor covered up. Well Done repaired all damage and reflashed chimneys, working past dark for NO additional cost. Would definitely recommend this contractor.

Bob showed up and stayed with the job through a long day that was wet and cold. The job was straightforward; blowing dirt and mold off vinyl siding and cleaning one section of gutters. I would have Bob return in the spring. This review would have been perfect except for a couple of small things, easily rectified next time. Bob used my hose, and I still can't find the nozzle. It froze that night (hard) and the hose was left hooked up to the sillcock, which let ice expand into the faucet and piping. Fortunately, it didn't burst. We paid a bit extra to have a row of gutters cleaned out, but the debris was blown back on the roof, which means it will be right back in the gutters come first hard rain. One section of siding on the back of the house was missed. This is all small stuff, easily avoided next time. We'd have Bob back.

Harris contractors came immediately when a tree fell on our house. They arrived removed the tree and covered the roof with a tarp to prevent any more damage. Mr. Harris helped with the talking to the insurance adjusters and made sure everything was covered. The team he has did everything from placing a roof, soffits to taking care of the inside. They placed sheetrock, painted and did what electrical work was needed. We were amazed how neat they were. We would recommend them to anyone and are going to ask them to do some more work for us in the future. Again he and his team are very efficient, knowledgeable and reasonable. You can not ask for a more reliable team. Thank you again for your service.

If I could have selected all the values for Tony I would have! We’d had a hard time finding a contractor that was timely and did what they said they would, and from the first moment we reached out to TD Builds we knew things would be a heck of a lot better. Tony explains things, listens to what is needed, has great prices along with amazing craftsmanship. Plus, he’s never been so much as a minute late when we had an appointment. On top of all of that, he really just goes above and beyond. If you need something done, anything that needs a builder/craftsman, I highly recommend Tony!!

We can finally enjoy our beautiful outdoor space and amazing deck thanks to Micah! He was professional, courteous, and clearly a talented craftsman. When we began our project we only wanted to cover the existing deck, but then we decided to extend just a bit. Micah gave great suggestions and wasn't just out for the dollar like so many other contractors we had come out to give us estimates. He actually gave us tips to help us SAVE money. I had print outs of what style I wanted the deck to resemble, a rustic yet simple style; and Micah had no problems getting the materials and never complained once if I had a question or changed my mind. He was even able to find a roof that matched perfectly to the brown roof on our storage building and house. My husband and I are beyond pleased with the service we received and the new outdoor living room Micah gave us! 10 out of 5 stars!

We own a house in North Carolina and we live in Orlando Florida. The simple process of getting an estimate was even difficult. I contacted six or seven roofing companies only three of them were able to give me an estimate on the project. I was comfortable with three estimates and Ricardo‘s Estimate was the best. He answered all my questions, and there were many. He was always on time. His crew was professional and polite. Best of all he was able to fit me in his schedule because of a cancellation before renters were scheduled to move into the house. I can’t imagine any other company in the world being able to do that. We have friends that are also looking for Roofer and we highly recommended him to our friends. I think that says it all.

Description Of Work: Removed old roofing and installed new shingles with 30-year warranty. Included 15 felt, drip edge, new vent/boot covers, and ridge cap. Installed new gutters on front and back of house. Gutters are seamless 5" gutters with four down spouts. Repaired fascia on two corners and installed new crown on one corner to match what was there. Painted all fascia, soffit, and gable vents. Comments: Mark Ferguson has been wonderful to deal with. He has been very gracious as I have had many questions about different jobs that need to be done around our house. He always answers my calls, texts, or emails and is willing to discuss and explain the details of the work that is to be done. His crew replaced the roof in one day and did an excellent job of cleaning up afterwards. The painting and new gutters look great. I highly recommend Ferguson Builders!

I needed a major renovation done in 3 weeks. Most contractors I talked to said it was impossible. But then I met Jeremy, and he said not a problem. He and his crew finished the job on time and at the best price. We could not be more satisfied with the job they did. We now have that extra large living room that we needed and not that car port that we did not need. Jeremy is very detail oriented, can produce a solution for the problems that come up, and his crew is friendly and respectful. We highly recommend this contractor.

After living in our home longer than planned we needed more room for our family. We briefly looked for a new house but quickly began to discuss the possibility of adding on to the house we owned. That’s where Kurt Hensley (Kurt Hensley Construction) came into the picture. We knew Kurt a little bit and knew his reputation as a contractor of doing quality work. We contacted him for advice. Kurt met with us, shared his thoughts based on what we wanted to do, and proposed an estimate and work time frame. We felt confident in his ideas, cost proposal, and ability to do the job. We didn’t seek anyone else. To our house Kurt added a master bedroom with en suite, a bonus/family room with half bath and an office space…about 1,200 square feet. In addition he did some remodeling and updating including recessed lighting, new counter tops in the kitchen, a new deck, all new windows, and an expanded garage area. (A big job… and we lived in the house throughout the project!) During this time our home was seemingly Kurt’s home as well. We turned over the keys and he went to work. Kurt offered advice and thoughts on how to do things but always listened to and performed the jobs as we requested. He helped us through the decisions with advice and an open ear. We trusted Kurt and his team completely. He even told us that he wouldn’t bring anyone into our home that he wouldn’t take into his. We were, and still are, completely satisfied with the remodeling experience and still refer to him as “our builder man.” (In fact, we have called on him since the building/remodel project to return to our home to do some smaller, necessary jobs.) The project, as estimated, took just over four months from start to finish. Kurt was always hands on, making sure we, the customers, were taken care of…even when the heaviest rains of the year and the removal of our roof coincided. He kept us dry. We have no complaints about Kurt Hensley Construction except that we had to pay for the job…but it was, for sure, money well spent.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
