I was a voice student of Hillary Trumpler during my time in Asheville. Hillary was an excellent teacher, and perfect for me. As a 70-year-old who had never had voice lessons, I had a lot of things to learn, and it was obvious that Hillary was really skilled in teaching those things. She worked with my muscle control, breathing, song tone and strength, accent (in foreign songs), and so on. In each aspect it was obvious that she had the background and skill to teach effectively. Besides all of that, it was a pleasure to work with her. Shes very patient and affirming, and was very obviously invested in both improving my skills, and in helping me enjoy singing. Id recommend Hillary Trumpler as a voice teacher without reservation. Josh Fisher Jacksonville, FL
At age 13, my son was referred to Barbara Norris by his piano/guitar teacher. He had never taken voice lessons or even really been exposed to classical music, and especially not opera. He went for an audition with her, and at first was afraid. But she worked with him and calmed him down, so that by the end of the audition, he felt like he could and wanted to learn this from her, and they ended up forming a strong friendship. Barbara taught him how to see his voice as an instrument to be taken care of, and she taught him good breathing techniques. She exposed him to different languages and different genres of music. She prepared him for auditions in the Masters Track program and the music academy at his high school. Because of her work with him, he felt confident to try out for vocal parts in school musicals, concert chorus, chamber choir, and madrigals. He competed in FVA solos for four years and got superior ratings every time. He performed solos for school and church, and even sang on street corners in the old city of St. Augustine. Barbara came to his performances at school and for the FVA to encourage him. He is now getting his bachelors degree in music on a vocal scholarship, and he has worked with at least four different churches in their music programs.
I am a professional musician and music educator who has been exceptionally reviewed by critics and students alike. Teaching voice is my true passion in life, and I want to help you find the sound that is completely your own and takes your singing where ever you want it to go.
David was great. He's teaching me some basic drumming. My first lesson was last night. David came to my house, he was on time, looked neat and clean, and got right to business. He had even stopped at a music store on the way and got me a book on drumming. He gave me instruction on grip and basic drumming skills which was great. I felt I got more than my money's worth. I would recommend him to anyone. I look forward to my next lesson.
With a diverse background in many different playing styles, I teach lessons in voice and three different types of guitars: electric, acoustic, and classical guitar. In a lesson with me you will be focusing on four main areas: repertoire, music theory, improvisation and technique. Repertoire is simply the songs you are working on in preparation for performance. Music theory provides ear training, note-reading and sight-reading skills, and knowledge of how music works (theoretically). Improvisation drills your solo skills which in turn increases your confidence when jamming with other musicians. Lastly, technique is how to hold the guitar and how to use the left and right hands in a way that that is relaxed and tension free. With voice it entails learning how to breath properly, prevent vocal strain, and expand your range. In addition to these areas of study, I also offer songwriting and audio recording lessons for more advanced students.
At the ripe old age of 75 I decided I needed some excitement in my life. I contacted Bill Branyon for some guitar lessons. One of my better decisions. Bill and I hit if off and I can, after a couple months i'm able to play the guitar. I'm not quite ready for the tour but Bill has opened up my eyes to a whole new world of music. Bill has a great easy going method of teaching and motivating. I recommend Bill to anyone who has a desire to learn the guitar.
