Katie recently Cat sat for me and I was super impressed with her professionalism and also the wonderful care she provided for my elder cat. I loved that Katie updated you upon arrival and departure at your house to let you know how your animal was! She also provided a picture each day to let me know that things were A'ok! My cat was super happy as well with the care she provided. I will certainly be using her again and will gladly refer her to anyone in the High Point Area.

Shana is honestly the most talented person I've ever met when handling dog behavior. Even in the most complicated cases, not only can she identify what the core issue is, she knows exactly how to rectify it. After she moved to North Carolina, I have even contacted her from Chicago by phone because that's how much I trust what she says! She really knows how to strengthen the bond between dog and owner.

Myke has done a great job with us and our 2 year old rescue, Hattie Mae. He has helped our family understand her special needs and gave us much needed guidance on how to help her work through her anxiety. He is knowledgeable, experienced and has a patient demeanor with our family members (including Hattie Mae). He arrives on time and is professional. We would highly recommend Myke and Gray Wolf K9 to those looking to better understand their dogs behavior and personal training lessons to correct unwanted behavior.

I moved to NC for a job and needed to travel for that job just a week after moving. I was stressed at the idea of finding a pet sitter I could trust in such a short amount of time. Taking to the internet I found Cindy's Pet Sitting Services. I called and Cindy arranged to meet me at my house with my areas pet sitter, Jill. First off, I love that they have all their forms are online so thorough. I was able to detail all the important things my pet sitter needed to know about my pets. I also like that all the details are spelled out in the contract. When Cindy and Jill came over they went over everything with me and made sure I didn’t have any questions or concerns. The main thing I love about Cindy’s Pet Sitting Service though is that I could tell that Cindy and my pet sitter Jill LOVE animals. Jill was on the floor with my big mutts before the visit ended, not scared by the jowls, drool, or hair encountered! My animals took to her immediately, even my more skittish dog Tina. When I’m gone my pet sitter has texted me when any issues come up. I love that she is so communicative and alert to my animals’ behavior and patterns. With her level of oversight I finally feel comfortable leaving my pets at home and going on trips out of town! The notes that the pet sitter leaves are great too; very detailed and thorough. Overall I would recommend Cindy’s Pet Sitting Service to anyone looking for a service that will take impeccable care of their pets. I have found my NC pet care provider!

We didn’t know what to expect since we were having both our Opie and Barney trained together. Stacy made us feel at ease right away. Stacy did an amazing job with our pups and us. Although, my wife and I were her biggest challenge. We now feel more in control of our pups behavior. We highly recommend Stacy and her methods on keeping your dog focused on you. We might get another doggie, just so we can have Stacy train them.

Very knowledgable and professional trainer. Explained what and, more importantly, the why of this natural dog behavior based training program. While not cheap, I think it is a very worthwhile investment for insuring my 8-week-old German Shepherd Sophie will be the great companion dog I want her to be. She and I have a trainer for life and we will have another visit when she is 6 months old.

Sarah has taken care of my dog many times and every time is a wonderful, positive experience. She has a true love for animals and it shows in her care for them. Sarah has taken care of my dog Millie for long & short periods of time. She gave Millie loads of love, attention and playtime. She also maintained Millie's food and daily routine. Each time I came home to a very content doggy😀

I recently tried to adopt a young female dog from a rescue. Soon after the dog arrived difficulties between her and my 14 year old female began to manifest. I phoned Jennifer for consultation and help with the situation. Jennifer immediately understood the behavior both dogs were exhibiting and clearly explained to me what was going on. Through our conversation, I realized these two females were not a good match. This adoption did not work out for me however, I will try to adopt again. When that time comes, I will speak to Jennifer first and discuss the available dogs. With her help, I can make a more suitable selection and avoid another disappointing experience. I value and trust Jennifer's knowledge and experience in dog behavior. I have every intention on having Jennifer as my trainer when I get a new adoption.

Paula taught me more in one hour than I thought was possible to learn. She let me experience everything she showed me with my dog to make sure I understood all my commands. My pets have been sleeping with me forever and last night was the first night with no pets in my bed. My dog Oliver was showing aggressive behavoir on the leash and Paula really worked with me on the issue. I am going to hire her again next week to go out with me in a dog leash environment so she can see if my issues are solved. Her rates are very affordable and I would highly recommend her to help anyone out no matter what breed they have with behavior issues.

Val and the instructors at Pet Behavior Help have brought me to a whole new place of peace and fun with my dog, Riley. He was highly reactive to other dogs, but through private lessons, obedience and tricks classes we were able to build my management skills and his confidence. That work allowed us to move into agility classes where we are having a blast now as a novice team, with Riley able to easily work off leash around types of other dogs! Val and her team have always had Riley's best interest at heart and their patience, persistance and encouragement have made learning fun and productive. I highly recommend Val for private behavioral work, and all levels of classes offered at Pet Behavior Help.

About

Hello, my name is Ken, and animals are everything to me. I believe they should be cared for no different than how people are. I am 40 years old, grew up on a farm and currently live on my farm. I can and will accommodate any animal needs you have, regardless of type or complexity.

About

I can walk dogs, give baths, take them to the park and let them play. I have two dogs of my own both I trained. Also, I am good with taking care of cats and always have had cats growing up. But something about me and my animals is that they are very spoiled. For the right price would love to help out. Thanks and have a wonderful day!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

  • What type of training methods do you use?
  • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
  • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
