Came promptly in the morning to remove yard debris including leaves and tree limbs. After removing the items, they also cleaned up. Which was a great surprise! The task was completed in about 40 minutes.

Rob & his crew fenced in our back yard, and we could not be more pleased with his work. He was affordable, professional, his crew was very polite(which we appreciated), they were there on time, and they got the job done in a just a few days. He was even able to remove a tree for us, to give us a nice, straight line. The fence is beautiful, has 3 gates, and we absolutely love it!

I found Parrish Tree Service on Thumbtack after a fair-sized tree fell over on our screened porch. They came out on a Sunday and gave a reasonable estimate, then showed up when agreed and got the tree down. They are professionals with professional tree removal equipment. They did not have a lot of space to work with and figured out a way to get the tree down safely. I hope we don’t have any more tree problems, but if we do they’ll be the first people I call.

Ray was wonderful to work with. He aerated our yard several months ago and the grass is looking better than ever. We hired him today to trim our shrubs and remove a large vine. He did it all exceptionally well and within budget — all in very cold temperatures. Thanks again, Ray. We look forward to working with you again!

I needed a lawn care service that was insured, and could bill me monthly. Service owner Roger, and Tri-County were exactly what I was looking for. Roger is friendly, and personable. We were in constant contact before he arrived. The work started immediately when Tri-County arrived. Roger and I walked my lot, and discussed my lawn care needs. Upon completion I was very satisfied with the service provided. I look forward to a continued business relationship, with Tri-County Outdoor Services! Gary Matthews

Jerell and crew came and took on the big job of removing about 16 shrubs in front of house. They worked hard and finished in good time. I was specifically worried about roots being left behind and did find several, but otherwise good job.

My entire experience with Stone, Soil and Shrubs has been excellent. I’ve happily contracted lawn service with this company for about ten years. The monthly service plan we have includes all mowing, trimming, all fertilizer and chemical applications, all pruning, and twice yearly seeding as needed. In addition to this, we’ve also retained them to provide a la carte services such as resolving drainage issues, tree removal, hardscaping, sodding, and the planting and transplanting everything from annuals to trees to entire beds. They are reasonably priced for the high level of service they provide and they are responsive to any query or complaint—and those are rare. Most of my immediate neighbors have used them either on contract or for single-service jobs. I have never heard a complaint. It isn’t hard to find someone to mow your lawn. It is very hard to find someone who will treat it like their own, and not take shortcuts.

I hired Jose the remove and put in a new front walkway and steps for my front porch. I received a very thorough bid and Jose to the time to answer my questions. He showed up on time, 7 am and completed the work in one day despite having to remove some concrete that was greater than 4 inches thick. He and his assistance worked until 6 pm. He did a very good job and I was very pleased with the new walkway and steps. I will use Jose again for some of my landscaping projects. Kurt Anderson

Having used Lawn Guy Landscaping services for the first time, I found the experience with Michael of Lawn Guy Landscaping truly refreshing because of the overall quality of the results. During the fairly recent past, I've used a few lawn services with results ranging from very satisfactory to disappointing. I found Michael's care in performing the work during his initial visit was faultless. The experience with regard to communication (e.g., being informed re arrival time, how work would be done and the equipment used as well as what work was to be done within a given period of time), was much better than other services I've used and I consider that the price for the quality services I received was a fair one.

FortSmith Lawn & Landscape did an excellent job at a property my husband and I were leasing. Upon the end of our lease, and as part of our move-out duties, the lawn needed: a mow, trim, weed-eat, edging, leaves removal (a lot!), trimmed shrubs and an all-around clean-up look. My husband and I were very pleased with the professional results and hope to hire FortSmith Lawn & Landscape for future services. Thank you FortSmith Landscaping!

I hired Humble Tree to cut down several trees and bushes on my property. I was very impressed with Michael's knowledge of all of the different plants to be removed. He gave me the best removal strategy based on the type of tree. He was always prompt, professional, and great to talk with. He did an excellent job with the tree removal, tree trimming, and was careful to clean up afterwards and not leave a mess behind. The price he quoted was great value for the work done as well. I will certainly hire Humble Tree for all my future yard maintenance needs, and will be recommending him to my friends and neighbors as well.

Excellent service provided by Tim and his team. The quote for an approximately 200 sqft cement driveway addition came in very fast, was proposed as expected, and work started immediately the next day. The team member who did the leveling took extra care in moving the dirt and even spread it for me in an area requiring topsoil. This made raking and reseeding a breeze. Also knowing that the slab was going over some 4" and 2" drainage lines they took special care to be sure all were secured safely below new pour as to not cause any issues. Tim's crew returned after slab cured and took up the frame boards and even pressure washed the area to remove any soil residue from existing driveway. Great job! We will call Tim again for any future cement/foundation needs and we recommend his services highly.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.
