They arrived ahead of schedule and called before they arrive. They did inspection of roof and vents during gutter cleaning. Did gutter cleaning by hand and blew debris into yard beds. Was hoping they would haul debris away, but cleared the area well. Made some suggestions on roof repair, but wasn't pushy about it. Very pleasant to do business with.

Sergio gave me a prompt, and well explained quote for removal of carpet, flooring installation, and some repairs from water damage. I chose Sergio because he spoke to me professionally without arrogance and provided a fair quote. Sergio and his crew worked extensively, long hours. His lead flooring specialist, Ephraim installed the flooring in a quality manner with an eye for detail. He explained why he ran one room a certain way and some changes to consider. Sergio was on site every day to communicate any issues and run through all possible repairs. When comparing Sergio to other companies that I explored, I felt that I could trust him and proved that I was right! I am so thankful I found Sergio and his crew. My flooring looks amazing!

PRIMO COMPANY A++ The shingles on the house did not look that bad, but what was under them was scary. I found one leak and repaired it, but while in the attic I found two more leaks that were not showing, so right then I decided we needed a new roof. I got 6 competitive quotes and three (3) were for ~$9,500, or very close to it. Three were over $11,000, so all but one of the high bids were removed from the bidding process instantly. ABJ Roofing surprised me. They were the only roofer to actually get a ladder out and go up on the roof. They took great pride in learning what the roof challenges were so they could make a competitive quote. And while talking with the estimators, they were very friendly, low pressure, and offered more information than was needed to help me make an informed decision. One of the higher priced roofs told me I didn't need a new roof, and that it could just be repaired, which early on was one of our options, so we thought. ABJ Roofing informed me of nail holds left in the roof from a previous repair job many years prior. Holes that should have been caulked, but were not. This information helped spur us on to deciding to go ahead and get a new roof. There were already to many hidden mysteries under these shingles. Now we needed to figure out which roofer to select! The other companies offered assistance, but we felt pressured as they presented they options. ABJ Roofing had no pressure, they were not salesmen out to make a quota, but rather, they were simply there to give you an honest quote and provide you with the information you needed to help you make the decision on what material you wished to use. Other roofers didn't wish to take the time to explain the newer types of felt and synthetic underlayment. I was referred to ABJ Roofing and I am glad I was. I have replaced a few roofs when I was younger and I know my way around a roof. They did not feed me any lines like some of the other roofers did. This disqualified the 'other' roofers quickly. In the end, it came down to two (2) $9,500 quotes and one (1) $11,425 quote. But after further research, the high quote was disqualified too, because the shingle they were choosing to use were in my opinion, not as good as the Certianteed brand. And they would not budge on using anything other than GAF product. The property was well cared for. Tarps were laid out, plywood was placed over windows and doors to protect them while they removed the old shingles, and all of the rotten roof was replaced with great care. I would go out every 45 minutes or so and make a round of the house, taking pictures and what not. I climbed the ladders to go up and inspect their work. Looking at how well they interleaved the valleys, whether the ridge vent was to my satisfaction, how the custom drip edge was made and installed, making sure it covered over into the gutter, and making sure that they were replacing all the rotten spots. There were two (2) issues where the builder of the home took shortcuts. The ABJ guys would not stand to roof over what the builder left for them. Instead, they took the time to repair what the builder should have done 24 years ago and moved on without question. And when I ask for a change in what was in the contract, there were no issues. Ask them for a cash discount! And pay with cash! You'll save a lot! The left today, leaving the place very clean. Our bushes are as they were, and the place looks nice. Would I use them again; yes. Would I stay at home to oversee the project again; no. There work is impeccable. I am very impressed with the custom drip edges they made onsite. This could have just thrown up a standard drip edge and no one would have known the difference. But I would have, because I crawled up and inspected it at several locations. They also fixed some rotten fascia at no extra charge. I like good people, and they are good people. The crew were all hard workers. I do not think I need to say any more, Try them, You'll like them. -Steve

I hired Mr. Byrd and his crew to do some interior painting, pressure wash house and decks, and repair rotten door frame. His initial response for a price quote and scheduling was very good and he underbid another home repair contractor and that was good. Overall Mr. Byrd and his crew did a very nice job on the interior painting on walls which were badly stained by cigarette smoke over the years. However, I should have known better than to go to work and leave a check expecting the work to be completed, but I didn't really have a choice that day. The back door frame that was repaired badly needed a second coat of paint. Also, when pressure washing the front deck floor they chipped the paint of the bottom of the deck rails. I called Mr. Byrd and told him about this. He told me that he would come back early the next week. That's been 2 weeks ago and I've not heard anything else from him. I have a realtor coming in to look at the house next week so I guess I'll have to make these corrections myself. Although these are small things, I feel he should make it right since he's been paid for the job. Mr. Byrd has come back to correct the issues that were pending. Apparently, he thought that someone in his crew had come back to do this, but they had not done so. Everything looks very good now.

We had some water stain on the ceiling after the rain and we were really nervous something went wrong. I research around and found Travis on Thumbtack, which I was very impressed by his excellent review. Travis quickly responded my request and walked me through the possible scenario and remedy to ease my concern. We scheduled the earliest possible time in the early morning which he went on the roof and attic to inspect the area and took some photos before he helped me repair those areas. We have never thought we could get this done so quickly without spending a fortune and at ease. I would highly recommend Travis to anybody who is looking for a roofing professional.

I had some water damage from several days of rain. I received several estimates for the damage, but Ron was the only one that was more concerned about where the water was coming from and actually fixing the cause first. He worked with me with my budget and treated my house like it was his own. I have already recommended him to people I know. He is thorough and personable and I look forward to working with him again on projects. I would highly recommend the Ursini Construction Company for your general contracting needs!

We hired JFItzgerald to do several jobs at once. Roofing, tearing down and rebuilding a deck, tearing down old fencing and putting in new fencing, vinyl siding repair are just some of the items. Everything was completed in a timely manner and looks great! Not only was John very professional, he provided great customer service and was a very tidy worker. There was never any trash or debris left lying around. We will definitely hire him again in the future and will recommend him to anyone looking for a General Contractor.

After getting several vague inquiries and 'quotes' from others on Thumbtack which were immediately moved into the metaphorical rubbish bin, my wife and I narrowed our choices down to two local companies: PBC, LLC, and a competitor not listed on Thumbtack. Stan and Bill set up a time promptly to assess our roof, and gasp, actually took the time to get a ladder, climb to the a part where the pitch wasn't steep, take photos of visible damage, etc. (trust me when I say that some roofing companies will try to just point out the damage from the ground level without lifting a finger). During their visit, they had a folder prepared with line item quotes, aerial views, general information about the stuff needed, etc. which struck me as being, well, quite organized. The overall quote from PBC was just ever slightly better than the competitor (the competitor had a similarly organized proposal), so we chose PBC, LLC. Communication with Stan and Bill (mainly Stan) was clear and concise from Day 1. When he said, "Someone's dropping off the roofing materials on [x] day by [y] time," that happened. When he said, "The roofers are starting work on [x] day by [y] time", it happened. Start to finish, our roofing project of approximately 20 squares took 3.5 working days: first day was tear-off, 2nd and 3rd day were install/repair, and half a day more of debris removal. Speaking of debris removal, I'd have to go outside right now and specifically look for any errant shingles, nails, or other materials. The crew/Stan/Bill probably got 99.999999 percent of everything, which is greatly appreciated since our dogs enjoy running about in the yard. We also had them do 2 handyman'ish jobs - removing a large piece of tempered glass from a previous owner, and fixing our chimney sweep-out door. Both were done in a timely and clean manner. Really happy with the way our roof looks, and thanks again for the fantastic overall service!

I contacted Performance Roofing Sysrems regarding what I thought was a leaking roof. The representative responded to my inquiry immediately, visited the site and thoroughly investigated the problem. When it became apparent that the roof was not the issue, he continued his investigation to identify what was an air conditioning problem. I was impressed that he did not merely walk away after he determined it was not the roof, but worked until he could pin point the problem. Pleased with this service, we are currently considering using this company to replace the siding on our house.

We had our roof replaced. Alpha Omega was prompt, efficient, courteous and thorough in explaining their estimate and the work they would be doing, as well as throughout their actual service. All work and details were completed to our expectations, and they left our property in perfect condition. We had our roof replaced a few years ago, and we have had absolutely no problems with the roof at any time since. I would recommend hiring Alpha Omega for your roofing needs.

Sean walked the roof with me, explaining possible problems and fixes. Explained the proposal figures in detail. The crew showed up on time and went at it.When the old shingles and felt were off, Sean walked the roof again pointing out problem spots and explained the fixes. Excellent product, excellent installation and at a fair price. I would recommend to all my family and friends. Thanks again, Dan Liles

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
